October 21, 20223 yr It's possible, whether it's efficient is another question. You would need a change over to use either one or the other if they both feed the same DB. Else you could create two DB's where each one feeds it's own circuits, i.e. two totally independent circuits. Why not rather parallel two identical Inverters? If one does have a problem, then you still have power from the other one, albeit only half of the total power.

I know the Axpert can connect to others with a parallel board, master is allocated dynamically so if one goes down the other will become master and continue to function. The other point is that you will then only need a single software to monitor both inverters. I am not too sure about Sunsync software integration and support but the Axperts connect to Solarpower so you would be able to monitor both of the inverters with a single app. TLDR: You are probably better off using 2 of the same inverters than buying 2 very different systems over-complicating the matter.

But if you're worried about reliability, if that's the reason why you're aiming for redundancy, maybe opt for a transformer-based Victron or MLT?
October 22, 20223 yr Author My question arose out of what I have, Started with the 24V Axpert a few years ago upgrading from deep cycle 12 V Eskom maintained backup system. Thought at the time 24V "wow". Then when I wanted to increase capacity 48v had become the norm and I acquired a Sunsynk system. So this prompted my question. So I thought that the Sunsynk manages power from eskom and non essentials it then becomes "ESKOM" for the Axpert the serves the essentials and when the latter runs out it reverts back the "ESKOM" 😉

This sounds good but the real problem and we see enough of it the 2 in parellel would share the same battery?. OK we use 2 batteries. Then with 2 batteries of the same make and vintage what when both have the same software or more common BMS problem. I would fancy 2 Inverters each running a portion of the house with own battery and panels. Change over switch between the 2. Down side is high load on 1 and low load on the other at times. I have combined my system prior to the Sunsynk with Solis grid tied and Axpert. Real low cost in doing in steps over time. Panels can be shared via switching from Solis to Axpert during 4hrs + outing. No noise most of the time when grid is up. Can live with the fans of the Axpert during outage. Solis works so well that no need to touch any button or look if all is well. A real great and reliable unit.

If you think of expanding the Sunsynk I would sell it and use the proceeds or keep it as a spare unit in case you need it. If the Sunsynk is not maxed out then sell it. If maxed out then keep it and use for certain loads or for essentials. I like your way of thinking by using the Axpert as the essential and feeding it as a non essential load from the Sunsynk during sun periods and keep the battery charged for free. This might sound stupid as the Axpert would have its own panels. A lot has to do with the values of panels and batteries I guess. It would be interesting to read other views.
October 22, 20223 yr To me it is a flaw in any configuration that allows for two or more storage units that are serving in isolation. One may be near full and not in demand while the other one is near empty and in full demand. Batteries are exceptionally expensive, so we must pool all storage units as a singular source.

I hear what you are saying about batteries. I guess we will see many people that had Axperts with whatever batteries that might still be able to power essentials. Upgrades to Sunsynk normally is done with new lithiums. As an example I am using my lead acids that were part of the Axpert to power 5 outside 220V LED lights from a 12V inverter instead of dumping them for the value of lead. They handle the load for more than 12hrs. My other outside lights are 12V and been running for years on a single 12V lead acid also for more than 12hrs per charge. Both these are also charged when there is grid. One might not buy batteries to be used this way but having them USE them.
October 24, 20223 yr Also using an old Lead Crystal bank 3years after Lithuim batteries was installed. They are connected to an old Axpert and sometimes help a lot on cloudy days. Also early mornings to do washing. Try to use them a minimum of once a week. They get recharged when Solar is available.
