October 29, 20223 yr Hi, So only had this system for about a month now. Got 9 x 545w Canadian Solar HIKU panels. The max watts I have seen is around 4300. This morning it was pushing over 6000 at one point. The math don’t math. 9 x 545 = 4905. I thought that would be the max under ideal conditions?
October 29, 20223 yr Yea thats pretty normal . When its cool and cloudy and the sun comes out you will see some large numbers like that.

October 29, 20223 yr Looking at your graph you were getting about 2kW through the clouds. The clouds act as a diffuser and sends solar radiation from many angles to your panels. Then at about 11:30 the sun started shining directly on your panels, adding their (normal) about 4kW. So, you got 6kW in total. In most installations the panels are rated to supply as much as the SCC can handle, so in a situation like this the MPPT would immediately adjust the input voltage so as not to overload the SCC. You clearly have a bit of headroom in your SCC capacity which means that you can reap the (very occasional) benefits of these conditions. Edited October 29, 20223 yr by Calvin
October 29, 20223 yr Author Thanks for the explanation all. I had read about the edge of cloud effect but this is the first time I have seen it happen and didn't expect such an increase. @Calvin yes it is an 8kw Sunsynk with one string of 4 panels and another with 5, so definitely got some headroom. I think 9 panels per string would be the max.
October 30, 20223 yr 50% more PV during cloud edge is quite a stretch. Plus 20% seems to be the upper value most of us would find on our systems. Recently we have good cloud to provide this effect.
October 30, 20223 yr I have 8.8kw of panels installed with 8 facing north and 8 facing west. Yesterday I had a brief moment of 10.2kw of solar input due to cloud edge effect.
November 4, 20223 yr Keep in mind that on these sorts of days the panel temperature is also lower, meaning increased yields as well - at least for short periods.
