January 24, 20233 yr New to this off grid stuff ... Installing a 5kw hybrid inverter and a single 5kw battery. Upgrading to PV panels and another battery later as budget allows. If I have a choice of the above three inverters and cost is irrelevant, which one do I go for? Thanks.
January 24, 20233 yr Victron if cost is irrelevant... Deye / SunSynk would most likely be able to do the job but Victron user interface & apps are better. That could be easily solved by using Solar Assistant with a Deye or SunSynk though ...
January 24, 20233 yr The design philosophies are quite different. Victron is often touted as the cream of the crop inverters available in SA - think of it as a BMW / Merc in price. It is also modular, so the inverter inverts, then you get a seperate MPPT to connect your panels then you get a sepearete charge controller to manage your batteries and then another box for system monitoring and management. I believe they may have all in one units but in general theirs is a modular approach Deye (OEM) and Sunsynk (rebrand) are all in one units with the charge controller, MPPT, inverter and monitoring in one. So they are thus cheaper. In terms of functionality there is little to choose between them. Think of them as the Hyundai / Kias - not cheap but not Merc price while still offering great value. January 24, 20233 yr And the problem here - if you choose a Victron setup with different units to do their own jobs instead of an all-in-one system - is you add up potential points of failure. If your MPPT fail, nothing can work. Chances of failure on Victron are low, probably a bit lower than a Deye or SunSynk failure but still, that would be something to consider ...
January 24, 20233 yr There are pros and cons to either setup, e.g. its easier to add panels / mppts in victron whereas with deye you need to get a totally new and additional inverter. Your specific requirements can help determine what would work best

January 24, 20233 yr My Input: I have a 5Kw SunSynk and a 5Kw Greenrich lithium battery - both are awesome. Friend of mine has the same setup, but with a Daye - no difference. Daye is the original manufacture, and SunSynk is the "western rebrand". All 3 are good, reputable brands, will come down to costs. Victron will be the most expensive by a long shot. --- Re: the comment about adding solar later. You can do so without changing the inverter - it will just need to be rewired correctly. I have 8 x 455w panels, and to add 2 more for example, will require a full require of the sting. But my inverter will be fine.

Apologies i should have explained clearer. The Deye inverter (for example) has 2 MPPTs The Deye MPPT has a limit for panels in series (voltage). Once you reach that limit you can then add panels in parrallel to the same MPPT which increases current but maintains the voltage. However if you wanted more in-series panels (more voltage) then you would need more MPPTs

With your panels and single battery, assuming an ordinary summer day, what kind of energy does that deliver? Enough to be off Eskom altogether, or even just most of the time?

I have my whole house on the SunSynk EXCEPT: Stove, oven, pool pump and geyser. 4 bedroom house, 2 kids: Average general consumption hovers between 400 - 700Wh. So with that, I get 9 to 11 hours without the sun. However, I do boil kettle, use microwave and air fryer for breakfast/dinner times, so that can consume. During the day with sun - easy the whole house, including fans, dishwasher, washing machine, iron - no problems. Here is an average day usage (yesterday).

The load of the house would not benefit from the MPPT. ie. The MPPT would connect to the batteries only to charge them and not connect to the SunSynk inverter? While we are on the topic, I do not understand the Victron MPPTs. Low voltage and high current. WHY? Who want to run 1 to 4 panels and then parallel each string of such few panels? One would require pretty thick solar cable to handle the 70A / 100A current from your PV array or multiple combiner boxes to parallel the strings and then thick cable from the box to the inverter. I personally feel they messed up a bit there, I prefer the higher voltage and lower current way which majority of inverters with built in MPPTs use. Am I maybe missing something?
November 4, 20232 yr Victron is a Low Frequency inverter whilst Deye and Sunsynk are High Frequency. If costs are irrelevant go for Low Frequency Victron but for 5kw you will need 8kva Multiplus II Victron Inverter.
