Sunsynk Inverter load power switches off when loads-hedding starts

Hi, I need advise, I have been using a 8Kw Sunsynk inverter for 2 weeks now and are still learning all its features. I have 1 x 5.12Kw Li-ion battery as backup for load-shedding. Once cash-flow and funding allows I will invest in PV panels and an additional battery, however recently my power drops once load-shedding starts and a few minutes later the inverter comes back on and all is well again. It never used to have a power dip between power failures (load-shedding). What can be the cause as I am at a loss?

Many things can cause this. Firstly, that 5kWh battery cannot hold the full 8kW of the inverter & secondly it depends on the type of battery & also the battery settings as setup on your inverter. Can you share the screen shots of what are your settings as well as which battery is being used here. 

It will help many here to help you in a good way. Otherwise it will just be speculation as to what the real issue really is.

If your battery is 0.5C rated, it will only allow 50% of the rating.

I am also experiencing this problem with a 5kw Sunsynk battery.  The battery charges ok but when there is loadshedding, the battery only keeps the inverter powered up with about 30W but does not keep the "UPS" load of about 1200W powered up.  It's not possible that a 5kW battery cannot keep a 1,2kW on for at least 1 hour or even a half hour.  Something must be wrong with the programming which is far too complicated!

Can someone please help?

Is the inverter switched on (the chrome button with a blue light)?

The interface is on and the blue light is glowing.  Could it still be off?  The battery is also charging.

Doesn't sound like you can lose out by pressing the button... it takes a minute or so to switch output on. The normal LED should be on.

Next stop is to check your BMS communication. You should get charge and discharge limits if you choose that menu item.

Pressing the button put the inverter off and the blue light also went off.  Put it back on and the normal LED came on again.  BMS is working and shows battery's charge/discharge current limits which is both 104A.  Under the battery menu option I've set the charge amps to 30A and the discharge to 95A.  The battery is charging OK but it's not discharging during loadshedding.  I only have an essential load of about 1,2kW connected to the same 220V supply which has the CT coil (with the arrow pointing to the inverter).

What battery do you have and what are the battery settings? Can you share your Battery settings and System Mode 1 and 2 screens

Are you sure that this 1.2kW load is connected to the Essential Load or UPS output of the inverter?

Judging by your description, it could be that this load is on the non-essential side, ie. "the same 220V supply which has the CT coil."

If this is the case, your load will absolutely go dead when loadshedding hits.

Sloar panels are still on order so charging takes place through grid which is connected via 4mm cable so I limited to 30A until I have solar connected.

Checking out Greenfield's advice I find that, right now with loadshedding, there's 220V on the "LOAD" terminals so if I connect there then the loadshedding part will work but then I don't understand the "UPS" connection and the CT coil.  I thought that the inverter puts 220V on those terminals under "NO power" hence the CT coil for blocking feeback.

I suppose the wording can be confusing. You have to connect your essential loads to the "LOAD" terminal. On the System Flow Chart this will display as your UPS load. This is the load that will always stay on as long as there is enough battery power and solar generation, even if Eskom is off. You can supply up to 35A or around 7.2kW on this port, of which at most 5kW will come from solar or battery, the rest will be passed through from the grid. So this is the perfect connection for your 1.2kW essential load.

On the other hand you get the "Grid" connection which is where the non-essential loads go. Things like geyser and stove that are often too heavy to put onto the inverter or batteries.

The Grid connection acts as a two-way input and output port,

- sometimes taking a feed in from the grid to supply your loads in place of the solar and battery,

- and sometimes the inverter can push surplus solar or battery power out to the grid or non-essential loads via this port.

- The CT coil together with your Zero Export settings will determine whether you are sending solar and battery power out to the Eskom grid, or otherwise just out as far as the CT coil, or otherwise you can choose to send no extra power at all to the non-essential loads, and keep it for the essentials only.

This sounds like where you had your essential loads connected (correct me if I'm wrong), and it's the wrong place to connect essential loads. Whenever Eskom is down, this "Grid" connection will also be down.

It helps me completely.  I had the two connections reversed in my mind that's why I connected to the "grid" connection.

Now I also clearly understand how the grid connection works.
