Seems they are  R 5 865.18 incl - backed by a Trojan dealer, as LivSol has so kindly pointed out to be aware of.

From hard shopping. :-)

Have you tried the Powerforum shop too?

Powerstore doesn't stock them.

Interesting ...

I think Trojan's are in for a challenge, once Lithium's have matured more.

Then there is this: https://www.engineering.com/AdvancedManufacturing/ArticleID/17068/Lithium-Shortage-Expected-Due-to-Lack-of-Mines.aspx

Maybe we see Trojan morphing into a lithium range one of these years.

And then this is this too, China controls nearly the entire chain: https://qz.com/1292202/china-now-effectively-controls-half-the-worlds-lithium-production/

Tojan have already launched a lithium battery - Trillium. Line will be expanded.

The  Lithium debate and which lithium brand is a never ending conversation. I am in favor of affordable and reliable storage, in whatever form that takes.

But reliability/bankability and support from a established company is key. So for us Trojan AGM as a maintenance free ESS ticks the boxes today. It what I use in my own home.

Lots of speculation as to what the ESS market will look like in 1-2 years. Guess we will see. I remain opened mined, and if we get a great energy storage  solution that is affordable and reliable, that means better ROI and  more people can be energy independent  and that’s what we want.

I did not know this!!!

Established company with decades of tried and tested ranges for lead acid, AGM now going lithium too, a company that will be around 10 years after one has bought, who deals with real life work horses like forklifts and golf carts, that makes this a very attractive option ...

Yes, it is very attractive. A 10 yr warranty from a 3 year old company is a gamble, especially in such a dynamic market with very large players like BYD with plans of ESS domination.

Now a 93 yr old company with a long legacy of quality and large R&D facilities/budgets, that is another story all together. The products coming to market look great. But I would not expect Chinese  pricing.

Trojans where never at Chinese prices ... same as Victron. But Victron did drop in price, thanks to pricing from the East. ;-)

Like when I bought my Tenesol panels from their new factory in Cape Town. 20 year warranty, local factory, what can possibly go wrong?

They where sold to Sunpower .... and now it appears that Sunpower has now also having left the "building"?

I'll stick with Isuzu / Toyota / VW /Nissan / Victron and Trojans.

Will wait for the Trillium's as my bank is only 3.5 years old.  ;-)

Your speaking my language. Banakble tier 1 manufactures. Simple. You get what you pay for. Buy from large reputable established manaufactues, otherwise your asking for a headache and a bad experience.

Nissan... now there is a story. Nissan is practically owned by Renault now. For example, a Nissan Micra (the new one, not the original concept) and a Renault Modus... essentially the same car. "Platform B" I think it is called. So I dug into that a bit, as is normal with such alliances, the two companies buy shares of each other, but because Nissan was actually having a hard time this ended up with Renault owning 44% of Nissan, and Nissan owneing 15% of Renault. The CEO if Renault runs both companies.

Now there was a time when I would not touch a Renault with a long barge pole. Or anything French for that matter. But all of a sudden one of my backup (if you could not afford the Hilux) Japanese makes was suddenly French. But then I realised that suddenly Renault is making some pretty decent stuff. Like the Duster (just don't get the Diesel, it's a Renault engine), or even the rental-company-favourite Sandero (which is a rebadged Dacia!). Their cars are hardly typically French anymore.

So my point... "stick with" can get rather relative at times. Make no mistake... I still find it very hard to drive anything other than a Toyota. We've had VWs, we even have a Suzuki at the moment (not bad... but has so far cost a bit more)... and when it comes to new car time... Toyota remains tops. For now :-)

Once one starts digging into who owns who and you get to the top of the pyramids, there is but a few mega corps owning most just about every brand we buy in the shops today.

And giving us all these options of "media / news / entertainment outlets" ... owned by a few super corps.

Even the large retailers we buy from are owned by a few.

And if you take it all to international level ... it is quite a picture to see, like these consumer brandshttps://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-12-08/these-11-companies-control-everything-you-buy

makes a mockery of 'free enterprise' and other constitutional psychobabble 🤨

Free enterprise, news outlets being unbiased ... all a "Political Correctness doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority (maybe not illogical but profit driven big corporations being the minority), rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media (owned by the massive minority corporations), which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

And we buy that, hook line and sinker, arguing to death of who is right and who is wrong ... as predicted nearly 2000 years ago. ;-)

Guys... be glad you don't live in America. A friend of mine told me a few weeks ago about how they analysed data from twitter and essentially form what you might call "tag clouds" and watching their sizes, growth etc over time. There is an interesting difference between ourselves and the US of A.

Over there, they have two sides to the media: On the one hand the conservatives (of which Fox would likely be the most well known), and on the other end you have the Liberal media (of which CNN will be the poster child). When you analyse the data, you can clearly see clouds forming around the media, each slanting things towards their own side.

In South Africa the media is very central. While there are also clouds pulling to each side (eg. you will likely have the EFF and the WMC guys on one end, and the DA and the VF+ on the other side), but they are all sort of pulled together by a unanimous (for the most part) media. We should be thankful for that.

Man, can't we just side swipe a good thread Plonk!? We are masters at that.

At least some excellent ideas have been swapped here, which has brought the thread to an effective close. ;-)

Are these not the BYD batteries that are suspect?

Yes, but they are second life batteries. They have been taken out of facilities and resold. They have 3500 cycles at max. They get brought in and relabeled as Revov. They are not comparable to the New BYD batteries. Huge dispute. Contact Afriplus to verify.
