April 11, 20197 yr I recently came apon youtubes with supercaps as batteries for solarpower. Has anybody on this forum use them and perhaps where can one buy it.? Whats the pros and cons? can we use with a Li_ion battery? Edited April 11, 20197 yr by Tokkiebod forgot somthing to add
April 11, 20197 yr A quick search on the forum using "capacitor" revealed: https://powerforum.co.za/topic/871-super-capacitor-batteries/?tab=comments#comment-14546 https://powerforum.co.za/topic/2533-ultra-capacitor-module/?tab=comments#comment-40902 https://powerforum.co.za/topic/3210-supercap-vs-gel-battery-vs-pylontech-your-experiences/?tab=comments#comment-48993 😁 Edited April 11, 20197 yr by Guest
April 11, 20197 yr A quick trick: You can use google to find things on this site. It is better than this site's own search function. Just add the text "site:powerforum.co.za" to your search terms.

The distributor claims the fire was not started by the battery. Apparently the cabling was not properly fused. That's what they say. I do see a fuse in the picture... so I can't say whether the claims are true or not. We can't say with certainty that it was the batteries. Given the initial review of such a unit by the BlueNova guys I am inclined to say it might have been the battery, but apparently BN had a pre-release test unit and the later ones are better. So again... things are just vague enough that we can't say for sure 🙂
May 3, 20197 yr Hmmm, I'll stick with the tried and tested. I have AGMs now, in the mid 2020's I'll replace with lithium and then in the 2030's with super capacitors, or fusion reactors, whichever is more cost effective.
