Hi guys

i’ve got a leoch LFeLi48100cb battery hooked up to an 5kw axpert inverter. At the moment the inverter settings for battery equalization is disabled. I assume this is correct as the bms of the lithium battery will control cell equalization?

Also, i’m looking at getting icc sometime, and read on their page that they can connect to pylontech batteries for SOC. Any idea if they will ever extend that to the Leoch? After a sizeable amount invested would like not to have to go buy a victron bms if i dont need to. Haha

Yes. Equalisation is only for flooded lead acid batteries.

Yeah, so Centurion Solar only does Axpert/Voltronic.

Yeah, Equalisation is for lead acid as others have said. What it does is raise the charge voltage to force current through the entire bank to help lower cells to catch up. This boils away electrolyte on the cells that are good, which is why equalisation is only to be done if there is a large imbalance, and preferably not on AGM batteries or other maintenance-free ones. It is better to use balancers.

LFP batteries don't pass more current if you raise the voltage, so it simply doesn't work. They have built-in balancers (it's part of the BMS).

A BMS only works with the battery is is designed for. Victron has two BMSes, but it is meant for their own batteries 🙂

It used to be 30USD, which was a fair price IMHO. Now it is 65USD. I note that the pylontech cable costs 557 and a Pi-kit is almost 2.6k. I didn't realise it's become that expensive...

On the subject of using ICC monitoring software where the LI batteries are not Pylontech, I was informed today by Centurion Solar that the software will only work with Pylontech batteries. That a disappointment for me as I was about to order the Pi with pre loaded ICC software from them. My batteries are 2 GLC models EW-KwBe 5,6kWh.

If ICC won't work it seems the only option I have are to revert back to Watchpower -unless there are better alternatives !

That's why people in the business are always calling for standardisation. But there is a kind of standardisation in place (it's somewhat defacto... some German company came up with something and LG started using it and others copied that... so they are all very similar in most respects and subtly different here and there). The only thing is the standard uses the CAN-bus.

You can add a BMV702 / 712 (with the appropriate settings) to your Lithium batteries and ICC will monitor your SOC and voltage accurately.
