August 27, 20196 yr I am note sure if there is a thread about this but figured here is the best place to do it. Anyone on the forum have had experiences with a BMS and any recommendations ?

Technically everyone has a experience with a BMS, your phone has one protecting it from becoming a fireball, unless you own a Samsung Note 7

What I learned recently here on PF is that: 1) If your system needs a accurate SOC, a BMS cannot provide that unless the BMS is one of the more expensive makes. But, not a issue if the SOC is not important or required. 2) One PF member's BMS had the wrong firmware uploaded on his BMS, supplier fixed that. So the battery supplier is a huge factor if there ever is a problem. The two makes I learnt that are good and exepensive, are Orion and REC.

I am currently using a BMV for the SOC purposes. Thanks for the info I will check out those companies
August 27, 20196 yr Look at an Oz company , Batrium , doing BMSs configurable for a variety of different lithium chemistry.
August 27, 20196 yr Orion, REC, or Batrium (I always forget about that last one). All fairly expensive, but they do everything including good SOC tracking. You can go cheaper of course. The bare basics a BMS must do is balance cells and disconnect if the voltage of any cell goes too low or too high. The rest is gravy.

Orion already got back to me and pointed me to Freedomwon the local reseller.
August 30, 20196 yr What product do you plan to use with BMS? As I know, Grepow BMS can be customized if you want some specific functions, like self-heating for low temperature or short circuit alarm/protection. The price may more expensive but depends on your need, or can ask them for some advice. Thats the website that I mentioned before: https://www.grepow.com/page/custom-battery-solution.html
August 30, 20196 yr @20VT Another place you can try maybe and they local is MD solar. Revol batteries used there BMS before they got there own. I spotted on one of the local installers post and ask the local cape town sell agent and he told me they used the MD ones before and then change over to there own one now. Here you can spot the MD one in this photo Edited August 30, 20196 yr by Gerlach

January 18, 20206 yr I have ordered LiFePo4 cells from China. That will take a while so I cannot test yet. Chargery BMS has arrived already. I'll keep you informed.

Anyone have any comments on the following: The Chargery system has two relays to control charge/discharge. How will this behave with a Victron Multiplus used in UPS mode. I'm concerned that there will be conflict with the inverter's change-over relay and the BMS's relays/contactors.
