It is always in the ideal position and the sun hits the panels at 90 degrees the whole day. Therefore the production would ramp up very quickly and stay flat for the rest of the day as the panels produce at 100% and stay there till late afternoon and then drop off fast and eventually die. This is the graph on the day I did an efficiency of 9.342. You will notice a very steep bell curve. You will also see that at about 8h00 and 17h00 one of the inverters actually cut back as I did not have enough load at that stage to keep them running flat out. A tracker with an Infini or GTI is the ideal setup, nobody will catch you!
March 31, 20179 yr Thanks for the chart, very informative. I am planning next winter/spring to move my panels on another roof (for the third time) and make a tracker myself . That is my long waiting project.

In testing the loading and editing of devices last night the PVO upload for the panels where switched off for this system. (facepalm) Lekker cloudy here today, maybe we get some rain.

March 31, 20179 yr We need it sorted on efficiency @Mark. That is the standard one sorted on Energy or production. That one we can do. Can you sort that whole list on efficiency?
March 31, 20179 yr I see Kevin Staples opened his account with a bank today at 9h05 with an efficiency of 3.95. His figures has yesterday's figures included. That is 2 day's production. Let me see if I can catch him. I will probably have to do an efficiency of 9 today to catch him.

I started the day off to see if I can do another day with an efficiency of 7. That would be 3 in a row. Looking at my figures now, that is an easy target to achieve. I need a better target. To catch someone that has 2 days production in his figures and a healthy head start, that is a challenge. As I said before, from time to time I will do it just for fun.

March 31, 20179 yr No, it is not sorting. Don't worry about it Mark, I will work on your previous link, that is good enough for me.
March 31, 20179 yr I achieved what I wanted to achieve for the day, with a few hours to spare, so I can take my foot off the accelerator and just cruise home and fill up my batteries.
March 31, 20179 yr Sorry, having a v e r y s l o w day! Year End! @MarkHow does one set Location? (other than in one's own settings place)? Under Find there is no "South Africa or Southern Africa to be found, neither under the "Team" button. Mistory Solved. Under your settings, scrol right down to where your registered system/s are displayed. Click on edit. Scroll down to Advanced settings, then look at "Team Membership" It should display "Southern Africa". If not, type in "Southern Africa" and click "Join", then SAVE right at the bottom, and you are done. Remember to do it for each of your systems that you want joined. To be removed, just follow the "LEAVE" option

April 1, 20179 yr If I lived in an urban area I would have my pin on the nearest shopping centre or public space. You might get some unwarranted attention pinpointing your exact location. Rural areas we cannot hide plus we have far fewer people scrutinising us. In my case, officials in high heel shoes and a Corolla did not even make it onto the property- true story.
October 11, 20178 yr I think @Don will be pleased to see that he has been dethroned as King of Efficiency on PVoutput... Solar60 has done the somewhat remarkable job of wringing 25kWh from a 2.5kW panel on an Axpert inverter at an efficiency of close to 10... I think @Don will be crying foul, because that must be by far the best PV system on the planet
October 11, 20178 yr I did a 6.3kwh/kwp a few days ago. That was by far the best I've ever managed :-)
October 11, 20178 yr PVO is unfortunately not fool proof. It doesn't check input values, specially adding the previous day's production to today. Not even talking about those sudden jumps or production at nighttime. Maybe people have panels that wake up when the moon shines!! Also, in the example above, producing 3.754kW out of 2.520kW worth of panels requires more that a 2d tracker! It's easy to fib this by manipulation the array one has. Hence one needs to take PVO with a pinch (of salt)

October 11, 20178 yr The funny part is that I did the 6.3 while I still had lead acid batteries. Usually the thing that gets in the way of proper generation is that the batteries will only charge so fast. Getting good numbers require actually using the power while it is available and keeping the battery bank in bulk as long as possible, that is to say, consistently doing good numbers is not only hard, it might be bad for your batteries too!
October 11, 20178 yr I have a Power Goblin that comes to the house every Tuesday and Thursday and runs every appliance simultaneously, watching her work you would swear she must be paid by the kWh! I have to spend an extra 5min every Monday and Wednesday evening praying that the sun will be out the next day, but it is great fun watching the PV Efficiency number climbing while she is in the house. Now that I have seen SolarBoob's remarkable numbers I can tell her that I know for a fact that she is dragging her heels
October 12, 20178 yr I wish someone can invent an iron without a thermostat - i.e. it uses constant power. Even if the load varies, that will be better than the current crop of on/off/on etc irons! In the old days, we used to power our iron with hot coals, and reload every 15 min or so.
October 12, 20178 yr 58 minutes ago, Sidewinder said: iron without a thermostat Like most soldering irons (the non-fancy kind), thermally balanced. When it reaches around 400 Celsius, the heat it loses into the atmosphere balances exactly with the heat going into it. Years ago when I was in high school I had an iron like that. It was a 600W iron with no thermostat. No fancy steam function either, just a plain iron that gets hot. Of course it was older than me...
