Essential vs Non essential vs grid
Excess will be sourced from Eskom. Non-essentials generally use eskom unless you setup your CT and settings to export solar to them. Inverter will trip if load on essentials is greater than 5kw during LS or greater than 7.5kw when there is no LS (35A pass through)

Simple Sunsynk + Dyness
One year later So yesterday was day 365 of my initial install. Some stats and thoughts on the last year below: All in all i should have done this sooner as the benefits have been immense. Our area periodically gets plagued by an unwell substation - system keeps performing. Also managed to drastically reduce the Eskom bill (even on prepaid) and we have been able to continue working (from home) without a hitch... well - almost If i had to do it again: I would go for an 8kw unit - more regularly we have been having AC overloads on the 5kw I would go for higher wattage panels - we got the 335s as these were in stock at the time but i should have gone for 455s or higher I would have installed it in the garage and paid extra to run cables from the DB I would have cut all the trees in the line of sight - we lost approx 25% production in the winter months due to tree shading - once we cut those we were cruising

100amps should be fine for 2 batteries (50amps each) as they are 0.5C IIRC. You could play it slightly safer and put it at 90 or so?

I did yes, partly yesterday and all day today. Also installer had issues getting dongle onto the wifi so i sorted that (while staying out of their way). I think its a decent backup solution for an ouma who stays alone and actually doesnt use a lot of power. Will check but i THINK she is basically offgrid - her battery alone can last for approx 40hours if there is no grid and its totally overcast

Luxpower + Shoto Install
Mother in law has been having major power issues and recently (the last 5 days) the area has had 3 8+hr outages - today's one started at 4am and is still out. She works from home moderating papers and marking exams so a proper backup system was needed. Powerguru were running a "black friday" special and we managed to get: 1x Luxpower 5kw inverter 1x Shoto 5.12 kwh battery 7x 455W JA Solar panels Instillation ancillaries Installed for R98k. House is a 3bd 2 bath unit in a complex with a north facing roof. Installation started yesterday 9am and the backup system (inverter + batteries) was up and running by 1pm. She was covered when the power went out at 330pm yesterday and again at 4am today (nice impromptu tests) Today worked to install and complete the panels was done - the roof is very high off the ground and needed some interesting solutions but was all done by 2pm. Panels have charged the battery and heated the geyser (on essentials but managed with a CBI astute) and she is thrilled. Peak PV today was 3.35kWh which is enough to charge the geyser from on normal days.

Yeah - id go for Sunsynk, if not for the longer warranty then for the chemistry (NMC vs LiFePO4)

Is it connected via CAN with the right pinouts and setup? I ask because we just installed Luxpower + Shoto at MILs place and its showing up correctly (Ah)

You could nest another condition in the same automation that checks for the grid returning then turns on the kettle. Something like an if-then-else or while condition

Does this happen everytime there is LS or only in certain instances, e.g. when a load is on the inverter? How arw the battery and inverter connected to each other. Can you share the LiBMS screen from the Inverter. Please also share the Battery setting screens (all 3 of them)

If you bought a Sunsynk or Deye system then the required device is known as the CT Coil that is included in the installation. Not sure about other inverter systems

The top one requires an account on the tuya IoT platform but its free. It IS cloud based so you're giving the data over - but the data is already in the cloud due to using the Smart app. follow steps below - it should work with no issues: https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/tuya/

Sunsynk Data Logger connection issues
The wifi network you are trying to get the logger to connect to - is it 2.4 or 5ghz band network? Most of these types of devices only work on the 2.4ghz band network.
