Adding 2 panels to a 6.6kWp E/W split on a 5kW Sunsynk for winter — safe and worth it?
Setup Details: Inverter: Sunsynk 5kW Hybrid Inverter Panels: JA Solar 550W Mono PERC Half-Cell MPPT 1: 8 panels (Facing North) MPPT 2: 5 panels (Facing West) My Solar Journey & Lessons Learned: I commissioned my system with just the North-facing string. Eight months later, I wanted more generation, so I added 5 West-facing panels to MPPT 2. Looking back, I regret only adding 5 panels instead of a full 8! My Advice to Others: On a clear, cool winter day (perfect for solar generation in Gauteng!), those West-facing panels take longer to get into their stride. If I were doing this again from scratch, I'd suggest just adding 4 panels—split equally as 2 on each string—and calling it a day! Below is from today and it is a nice clear cool winters day in Gauteng and even in summer i have never seen the voltage above 400V:

Advice Needed – Sunsynk vs. Eenovance Battery Decision
Good Morning all, sorry to revive a old thread but need some input please. Voltex still has stock of the sunsynk 5.32kw Batt at R16 100 I need a second batt as with prices for COJ going up i want to store more of the sun. (I have 7kw of panels on the 5kw inverter) so the existing batt has the ring type terminals and the ones at Voltex have the Push connectors. so to add the slave batt the manual states the negative cable from the inverter to the slave batt. so i will need new cables as I dont think the new batt comes with any. can i just connect the new batt to the existing one or do i need to move the negative to the new batt? these will be installed next to each other so no long cables needed.. I see voltex has cable for R1200 is that the going rate? regards

Sunsynk vs Victron
post your app graphs for us to see if your panels are maxed out or if the load is just not there.

Max Charging Amp issue for Deye Inverters in Parallel
Have you logged a case with Deye so they could possibly fix it in the next Firmware update?

Mains switched off but Prepaid meter shows a lesser amount every day
let it run down to 0 and see what stops working. maybe the street light..... 2.9KWh over 12 hours works out to 240w draw. (possible Street light...)

Battery charging with 2 DYE inverters in parallel
just fit your geyser with a 2 kw element. kosts R300 from plumblink. Takes 20min to swop out, it is 8 x 13mm bolts to remove the plate on the side of the geyser and then a allen key to remove the element. you have to drain the geyser and that takes half of the 20min. I have a 5kw Sunsynk inverter and I have 2 x 150L kwikhot geysers. Swopped both 3.6KW elements to 2kw elements. here is my graph for today: Geyser 1 switched on at 8:30. Geyser 2 Switched on at 10:00. Geyser 1 hit 75 Deg and switched off at 10:30. Geyser 2 hit 75 Deg and switched off at 12:45. When I have the Girl at the house to clean on a Thursday it looks a bot different and I run Geyser 1 from 8:30 till 12:30 and Geyser 2 from 12:30 to 16:00 in the afternoon she Ironed with the geyser running and still did not hit more than 5KW. you can really work a 5kw and not use Eskom if you have the 2kw elements in the geysers and bump up the temp settings on the geysers to full..... Kids shower at night using Geyser 1 Adults shower in the morning using Geyser 2 Geysers dont runn between 16:00 and 8:30 as I dont want to use eskom or my Batt to assist the geysers and we always have hot water.

Power supply to outdoor lighting
I believe in the KISS principal. (Keep It Simple S##pid) if the previous temp setup worked for 7 years, then I see it as a permanent solution to your problem so why change.

Panel Count per MPPT on 5kW Sunsynk Hybrid Inverter — Best Practice?”
you can not exceed MPPT voltage. you can exceed MPPT Amps to a certain degree (1A-5A) to be safe. I have 7200W of installed panels have not seen more than 6400W since Feb this year. but the Ave Production on a day has almost doubled from the previous 1 string off 4400W. more panel is worth gold wen it is cloudy, hence why i opted for more panels vs extra Batt. next step is one more Batt.

Panel Count per MPPT on 5kW Sunsynk Hybrid Inverter — Best Practice?”
I have 13 x 550W JA panels. 8 x on MPPT1 Facing North 5 x on MPPT2 Facing West Today I saw 6477w from the panels -> 4642W in to loads and 1587W in to battery. So yes more panels does help especially in winter like now. This is from Thursday: Tuesday - Panels 5679w --> Load 4900w and 560w in to the battery This is on a 5KW Sunsynk and 1 5.32Kw Sunsynk Batt, still saving up for another Batt. as you can see plenty of spare capacity left in the afternoon to charge a second Batt

Inverter Upgrade
Max panels to be safe is 8 on a string in Series.

8kw inverter recommendation and why?
Does the Solis do Pass Through like Sunsynk? Example is eskom is on. if there is only 2kw PV and the battery is flat but the load is 6KW will it use 2kw PV + 4kw Eskom to power the load?
-
What silent inverter do you suggest?
I Have i Sunsynk 5KW inverter and City Power Prepaid meter. yes sometimes it will send power back to the grid but only for 1-2 sec before it pulls the MPPT's back. It has never tripped the meter from Aug Last year. also no fans on the 5KW Sunsynk so you dont hear any noise from it . Myne is fitted in the Kitchen only space I had close to the main DB.

Different panels on a Multi RS solar single tracker
basically the 2 JA595w panels will drop down to the same power level as the 4 JA500W. so you will see gains and for the cheaper price it is a win.

Seeking Advice on Solar Installation – Garsfontein, Pretoria
I have 2 geysers on the system. both have 2KW elements the swop costs about R300 I run both geysers for 2.5 hours each. but separate not together. The red is load The Green is PV production you can see the first geyser ran 2 hours then swiched off then the second geyser ran for 2.5 hours. no need for gas geyser but I do have a gas stove as we cook at night,

Seeking Advice on Solar Installation – Garsfontein, Pretoria
Give Leon Oosthuizen from EL Solar a call 078 425 4358 His Team did my install as well as one for my Brother in Law. same systems. 5KW Sunsynk inverter 5.32KW Sunsynk Batt 8 x JA Solar 550W panels. plus COC R83K then Sunsynk upped the Warranty to 10 years because of the batt and inverter being Sunsynk. if you decide to use them please put me up as a reference :-) Jaques Mostert Very happy with My system. This is now: Charged the batt to full at 10 Geyser 1 switched on at 9:15 Geyser 2 switched on at 11:15 I use about 2.6 City power units on Prepaid a Day

City Power solar registration requirements vs costs, rebates, TOU, off-grid etc
I am also very interested in point #3. They say we have to register our systems as it poses risk to people working on the network and there is a possibility that our systems could be back feeding power to the grid. but what if our systems are physically not connected to the incoming line? say your whole DB is connected to your solar system and the incoming power (Eskom/city power/ etc) is connected to a separate DB board with no links to the house DB???

News on COJ feed in tariffs
I am on 1.8 units a day of their power. so currently it make no sense to buy another battery for me. I don't want to feed back. I am already paying R200 service fee. I get 62.5 units for the balance of the R400 I am forced to pay so that leaves me with extra units left over every month. I can also see i make a lot less power in Sumer vs winter because of the afternoon thundershowrs. So if they leave me as is I am happy. but force me to register and all off the sudden I need to pay R1365 a month service fee.... then I would rather buy another Batt and disconnect. I still have my trusty 6.5kw Generator from my pre solar loadshedding days that can help in a pinch....

News on COJ feed in tariffs
interesting that there is only 394 house holds registered. every second house in my street has panels on the roof..... This will become a second E-Toll Saga. I am also happy to pay the R230 service fee on prepaid but not the R1365.33 for having the privilege's to say i have a registered solar system, they must be mad... to put it in to perspective my prepaid bill was R1400 before solar (last year Aug). add the R230 service fee it is R1630. currently I only by R400 so I might as well sell the solar before i register for this poo as it is cheaper to just buy prepaid than have solar and register it with the R1365.33 penalty......

City Power New PrePaid Tariff 2024/25
Since the R230 service fee was introduced I have only bought R400 prepaid every month. To check that I don't owe them anything I bought for R600 in January. Still they only took R200 service fee and gave me 136.10 units.

Going off grid not allowed so how to get SSEG registered in Tshwane
So what is next? are they going to force everyone with a backup water tank to register it as well just in case you pump your water back in to their system? 🥴

Switch off Eskom from 8am to 4pm
Use the Red Pole switch to connect and disconnect your Eskom supply to the inverter. reason I suggest the switch is you can control it from your phone so even if you are not home and you need eskom power for what ever reason you can just connect or disconnect the switch via the app.....
