JTK reacted to Carl Anthony in Sunsync 8k SG01LP1 with unmatched PV stringsNo issues, I have the Powerbox Pro's and have been all good. Using comms via CAN but they are also capable of comms via RS485, but not at the same time one or the other.

JTK reacted to Kalahari Meerkat in Sunsync 8k SG01LP1 with unmatched PV stringsYes it has two separate MPPTs
Yes, within limits of the MPPT, can't remember, but possibly around 20A Isc and 400Voc, check the manual/specifications for that inverter.
Maybe, but I'd check the Voc or the existing 7 and make 100% certain there is room for expansion, but personally, I wouldn't mess with the existing string, I assume it works and you already have nearly 4kWp solar on that MPPT, fill up the other one rather.
Yes, same or more current, but I'd suggest you leave the string as it is, rather...
should be fine as long as the Isc and Voc values of the string fall withing the MPPTs specifications...
I would think not, same manufacturer, just Sunsynk is a different label/Deye rebranded and sold under the Sunsynk name. But others may know more, as it is, I doubt that Sunsynk or Deye actually manufacture batteries, so yet again some other manufacurers items being rebranded...

JTK got a reaction from Taps in Growatt 5kw backup systemalso same issue with my dad's setup. I moved the light circuit away from the earth leakage and the problem went away.. PS: my earth's were bound already. so was not earth related.

JTK got a reaction from Corneel in 15 kVA Victron - best generator for off-grid?Generator is less important... Yes 10kva would be nice but remember the gennie is really only for emergencies when the sun does not shine and batteries are depleted. Power is less of an issue so even a 5kva would be more than fine imho.. Water warming etc will be more of a driving factor. Thus a solar geyser or gas setup is probably more important to get right

JTK got a reaction from wolfandy in Help required: Earth tripping - but only when connected to gridjust remember an earth leakage is not checking leak to earth. it is checking discrepancy between live an neutral... So yes a two prong plug is still protected by your earth leakage breaker

JTK got a reaction from wolfandy in Help required: Earth tripping - but only when connected to gridto classify the statement. in series means you are splitting 240v between two loads... they wont work. it means live goes into first AC and neutral of that AC goes into live of next AC and Neutral of second AC comes back to board. Parallel would mean that live and neutral from socket run to first ac and then both run from from first ac run to second ac...
but yes. if they were in series it would probably be the issue

JTK got a reaction from sunset1 in Going off grid exercise - "Tshwane forced meter installation"They actually came and replaced all the meters in our estate (friday and today)... So I am not isolated. And yes my electricity bill is paid every month . Yes it is relatively low due to my creative way of managing my loads.

I still maintain your best path would be to get more PV. Dump excess power into the geyser that needs to run the bath by installing an element suitable to your inverters. Insulate the geyser well. The geyserwise only allows 65degrees and this is not optimal, I would personally up that to 75-80 degrees and rather install a thermostatic mixing valve to mitigate the risk of burning. Gas is a great backup, though you have no control over the price & availability. We can easily get into a situation where there is a gas shortage too, just look at europe. I hope I am wrong about this.
My heatpump works well to reheat the water for morning showers/baths for about 1 - 1.5Kwh of battery power

JTK got a reaction from Piper in Let's find the oldest LiFEP04 battery on the forum. How long have you had your LiFEP04 batteries and how many cycles have they done?3 Pylon US3000's
Victron kit: MPPT 150/100, 2x Multiplus3KVA's, GX
12 330w panels in 4 strings
Little more than 4 happy years: BMS says battery health 94%. Seems to remember it started at 98% not 100... So lets say 4% lost.
Daily cycle for consumption during night. so that is roughly 1500 cycles down to say 20-40%. This is unless Eskom plays around.. then it goes much lower. And cycles perhaps more as well...
Daily charge to full on Solar as first priority / Eskom second at around mid afternoon...
-> Battery has never alarmed or bailed on me. Had the Multiplus' internal trip 3 times on Eskom power returning after power outage. Seems to be spikes. Noting else.. Just works...

JTK got a reaction from Bobster. in Continues power from the grid?100% normal. Issue is if you are drawing a lot of power from PV/inevrter and the power draw stops. lets say a geyser drawing 3kw and you turn it off.. Then it takes a short while for the inverter/mppt to ramp down the power output. This obviously is an issue as your load is perhaps 100w and your inverter is ramping down from 3kw. The small amount the inverter draws from grid is there to prevent a small return spike to the grid. Some electricity meters will error when you feed power back to the grid. This prevents this from happening.
Anyways. that is hat I understand from Victron documentation

JTK got a reaction from hoohloc in Growatt default settings and how to prolong batterySo I got an ES for my Dad's setup yesterday. very much a better product than the TL's.
There is one setting missing though. You need a combo of SUB and SOL. SUB is great for daytime but if you want to cycle your batteries at night then you need the condition that says if either solar or grid is not available then use battery. SUB will only go to battery when both grid and pv are missing.
Anyone that can get them to update their firmware?
With this setting it will be as good as any of the others... honestly.. the only thing missing with these...
ps: second Growatt I purchased past few months TL and ES... both BMS working as required with Pylons...

JTK got a reaction from Youda in Up and running...So I have been operational for a week or so. But only rewired DB on saturday..
Multiplus II
Venus GX
MPPT 150/100
2x Pylontech US3000
ET112
Runs like a charm. If you look at the DB. from left to right. Mains Breaker, ET112, Geyser (Mains), Some plugs(mains), Timer (geyser) and then the load form the inverter. Lights and plugs.
ps: yes still need to close busbar... waiting for a piece of plexiglass... Nice little hidden busbars for PV inputs
I have one issues though.. I was running without the ET112 for a week. It would feed in to my mains load the excess MPPT without a problem. Now with the ET112 installed and hooked up it empties the battery as well to the mains load. That is no good... And I cant seem to find the setting that allows only MPPT excess to be fed into the main load... Dont want that hit on my battery bank..

JTK got a reaction from georgelza in USBMK3 to MultiPlus IISO I started today configuring my setup
1. VenuxGS - connected - updated - sorted
2. MPPT - Connected - updated - sorted
3. 2xPulontech US3000's - Connected - sorted - have one issue. power LED of one unit does not come on. all seems to operate as intended. VE.Cam Cable made up and working
4. Multiplus II - Conencted - Can see as device through Venus.
MK3 - installed. VE Config picks up Usb-Mk3 but does not see the Multi. Am I missing something? Normal UTP cable right?
Thanks!

JTK got a reaction from ___ in New member - i little knowledge :)lol! yes agree on that one. Trick is not to warm up the water long before you use it. That way you have to warm it up again and again.. Warm it up once. then dont warm any new water that flows into the geyser whiles you use it. Then warm it again before you need it turning off before you use.. It does save. But I agree. it isnt thousands. Mine was little to start off with :d

JTK got a reaction from ___ in New member - i little knowledge :)This is exactly that. It is turned on for an hour before we use the water. then stays off until next cycle. I do understand a bit of temperature dynamics
