  1. I would imagine the majority of residential homes are using single inverters.
  2. Sunsynk (5kW) can handle 6600 watts of panels easily, a big advantage when overcast as they will still produced plenty of KWs

  4. A pity you couldn't have installed 16 panels as I see the grid is still been used. That 8kW inverter can handle 10kW of sun power easily
  5. 8kW inverter; I would have gone 9kW on panels (always better to go higher on pv power) and those palm trees are going to cut your sun off for quite a few hours in the day.
  6. Amazing that installers do not set the Sunsynks up correctly - wonder how many people out there are not getting the full benefit of their expensive solar systems. I would have also put up 6 of those panels on the east roof and 6 on the west roof, then a guaranteed minimum of 3.6kW per hour of power for 10 hours of the day i summer.
  7. The OP is actually using grid to charge his batteries from 8am to 7pm to 100% SOC, so will only use solar to essential loads when the sun is shining on the panels.
  8. Your mode settings are incorrect. If your load is higher than 8kW it will supplement the balance from the grid.
  9. You have set to charge from the grid to 100% so it wont use PV power to charge your batteries. See my settings
  10. If they installed a new split prepaid meter then I wouldn't worry - these meters do accept small amounts of grid feed in for which you pay in reduced units from the meter. I use about 100 to 200 watts a day with my Sunsynk 5kW set for Zero feedback (zero export)

  13. East west is the best configuration in my opinion, but then one needs to over rate the PV capacity. eg 18 x 540 watts. I have a 5kW Sunsynk with 8 x 530 east and 7 x435 west and it pumps out the power from 6am to 6pm. Roof area availability being the biggest constraint.
  14. Looking again at your energy purchased it appears very low so I do not see a problem; that 1.89 kwhr is what happened at that particular point in time so is not continuous. One would get a better picture of what is going on by looking at the graphs if you are using Solarman Smart from a computer screen
  15. Also with your SOCs set to 70, 80 and 90 % during the day you are forcing the PV to charge the batteries before supplying power to the house items. Set those to 20 or 30 % during the day. Also depends how much power your PVs are rated for - 10kW of PV for your 8kW Sunsynk would be ideal.

If you want to feed back into the system (which is not financially worth it as yo have to be a net user) the city will install a prepaid two way meter for R8500. no feed in then will install a blocker prepaid meter for free. Check the COCT website for all the procedures and forms that have to be submitted - it is not too onerous.
  17. Dont worry if your unregistered installation kills some poor Eskom dude working on the lines down the road. There is a reason for registering; and usually done before the installation and usually before final commissioning - just saying.
  18. A ball valve and a non return valve are two different things. Ball valve closes off the water flow, non return valve only allows the water to flow in one direction. What type of solar system do you have: electric pump circulation or thermo circulation. Temp should drop no more than 6 to 8 degrees on a winters night. Get another technician to check it.

    Strange, what you have in your pic at the bottom of your inverter I have on the top of mine, and when looking from underneath I can see the fan. Temps I gave you are for the DC inductor, and looking at my device graphs the max AC temp is about 45 to 48 deg when running at 2000 to 3000 watts from solar and the fan does not come on. And yes the inverter will trip if it over heats.

    As far as I am aware all Sunsynk inverters have a fan. My 5kW Sunsynk fan comes on at 65 deg C and switches off below 60 deg, with this high temp only when the batteries are taking pretty high amperage charge.
  21. Just install 10 panels in that one string then, that would be much safer than 12 from a voltage point of view.
  22. For a hybrid converter that is, like a Sunsynk.
  23. Jabu has put the best wiring diagram out there, connect this way and there will be zero problems
  24. The manual says under no circumstances connect red to black - ouch
  25. Has no batteries so of course the inverter will switch off when no sun on the panels.
