July 15, 20223 yr So, i get some say-so’s that some hybrids like sunsynk can’t work without a battery connected… my brief reading of the matter says no such thing. So what gives? Surely that would kinda be a fatal flaw…

So what gives? Surely that would kinda be a fatal flaw… Why do you think it is a fatal flaw? Sunsynk can work without a battery - then it works just like a grid-tied inverter. When eskom fails it switches off.
July 15, 20223 yr For clarity, Sunsynk requires at least one of grid and battery to work. So, as a backup solution battery is required (obviously there's no grid during LS).
July 15, 20223 yr With LS becoming so frequent and regular now for some weeks I don't understand the sens of an inverter without battery. Export surplus solar energy to the utility at a ridiculous price and repurchase it during the night at full price? And no power at LS during nights?

Some of the high voltage Axpert inverters can run with just solar panels and produce power, without the need for the grid or a battery to be connected, obviously it needs at least the amount of Wattage panels and sunlight to produce the power needed at the time + probably 5 or 10%, I'd think, for this to work...
July 15, 20223 yr Our market with a very unreliable Grid means the Axpert with the High Voltage Solar Charge controller is a God send. Without a battery & without the Grid is produces watts.
July 16, 20223 yr Author Supplier explained that it can be run without batteries… but apparently it can run without betteries and or grid… well, if my batteries need repairs, or die, and i cant afford new ones, the whole system is useless… that is a fatal flaw… for me, since i live out in the sticks and sometimes we have power down without loadshedding for a day or two…

If you stuck without grid for long and batteries run flat your system has a major shortcoming in not having a genny. You can always use an external MPPT from another panel to get the battery into a low charge to get it operating during sun periods. Just a suggestion and would like to know if there are reasons why it won't work.
July 17, 20223 yr Author Jaaa… tis a problem, but understandable… hence we will be using batteries sparingly to increase lifespan… suppose if push comes to shove one can buy some deep-ish cycle leadacids for cheap to just keep system ticking over…

July 17, 20223 yr Author Got the sunsynk… none of those were available, everybody waiting for stock to land… so sunsynk lithiumbatteries sa which is lifepo4… will just have to save up some money for more batteries. Kead acid would be if i needed some batteries for when the grid is down and the lifepo4 dies or needs a service, would just be some ballast when the grid is lost whilst the sun is shining… so R8000-ish the inverter stays running when the sun is up and the grid is down… and dont discharge the batteries… but have some electricity
