LuxPower Inverter Battery Compatibility

Featured Replies

Hi, I have started installing the LuxPower SNA5KW inverters & have found that the Hubble AM-2 battery BMS does not communicate with the SNA. Network cable is 8 pin to 8 pin direct connect and plugged CAN to CAN. SNA Program 3 Lithium type battery selected and battery code 2 used. Any ideas ? Need help, have a bunch of these to fit within the next few weeks ..

Having a similar issue with SNA5KW and Pylontech, BMS refuses to come up. On their YouTube channel they show comms to Dyness

Don't see anything else

This is the cable layout as per the Hubble site.
I assisted my neighbour with the exact same Inverter and two Hubbles to make up the cable. His Installer was also at a loss how to set up the comms.
You only need two connected cables, the CANL and CANH as per these pinouts. Make up a cable or get someone to make it up for you.

Are those dip switches in the down position for both new and old batches can't tell in the illustration.

They are down but there is no need to play around with them

Hi, any assistance with regards to Luxpower 5kw Hybrid Inverter and revov Lithium-ion battery not powering up when grid is off?

Thanks in advance

Hi There

That usually happens if battery settings is not correct or bms is not happy.

Did you use voltage settings or bms ?

Interested in getting on 5Kw LuxPower inverter, apart from the cable issues to get the batteries to talk to the inverter. How's the performance and reliability of these units so far?

Is the PV MPPT trackers any good?

There are as good as any other inverter

Good Day is the Black Friday BF- GBN250 12V250AH/10HR Gel solar batteries compatible with the LuxPower ECO hybrid inverter SNA 5KvA?

Wow, black friday was a few months ago, so I would be very wary of any store advertising along those lines. That said, it's a lead acid battery, so you will need at least 4 of them in series, and because it does not have a BMS there will be no "compatibility" issues, there simply isn't any communications between the battery and the inverter. The inverter will have to use voltages to determine state of charge, which isn't very accurate. And you will have plenty of maintenance issues, because you will need to manually keep the batteries in balance. For that reason, lithium batteries with proper BMS communications to the inverter are a far better choice, and far cheaper in the long run.

basically, you have a Black Friday lemon

For South Africa lead acid batteries make no sense.
There is absolutely no logical valid reason why any type of Lead Acid based battery has any value for systems required to cycle at the rate required in SA due to load shedding.
They will work and maybe you can at least use them until they die probably in a few months to year at most (unless you use only 30% of the total capacity on every cycle)

Do the math for upfront and longevity costs and it's obvious that lithium is the cheapest and most reliable option.

My SNA5000 inverter is fairly new, I bought it in Jan 2023, it has red color switches however, it adopts the new pin config. ie. pin 4 and 5 to pin 4 and 5 as in your new batch of inverters?

Another thing, I see in your equipment list, you have 18 panels installed (I take it 9 on one MPPT and 9 on the other) therefore 9x50=450V OCV, in winter when the panels are colder, they can increase in voltage by 10V per panel = 540V which would be over the spec for that inverter?

Something has changed with the luxpower units in production. Who knows why they went back to red switches could be a shortage or blue switches ?

Last winter they never peaked over 426v, in addition I have constant load on the panels and voltage drops when the inverter is pulling current. I am an installer so don't do what I do. I never go beyond 16 panels for customer installations on a 8kw sunsynk unit (8 per string). However you can bring two strings of the same voltage down to 1 MPPT (in parellel)..... The 8kw can pull down 22amps per MPPT. Current doesn't matter coz the inverter will clip the current, voltage is what matters and its usually what causes MPPTs to blow

Thanks for your prompt response,

On my Luxpower SNA5000, I have 2 unequal strings:

On 1 MPPT, 7 x JA460W panels (3220W), on the other 6 x JA550W panels (3300W)

These MPPT's work funny on my machine, If the load power is low, it can switch off one MPPT completely and just be supplied by the other. This morning we were drawing about 500W and I noticed everything was being drawn from MPPT1, nothing from MPPT2 so I got worried and switched off the PV to MPPT1. It then (after a while) switched everything to MPPT2. I then put a kettle on and noticed it was sharing between MPPT1 & 2, so it isn't faulty, just strange.

Any idea why it would act like this?

Hi All

please can someone help me, I’m new to all this. We had a Luxpower 5kw inverter and ouco ub5000 lithium battery connected to it in February this year. We had an issue of we’re the inverter wouldn’t kick in straight away with load shedding and about 4 minutes later would kick in, this only happened a few times. I emailed the Luxpower support and they said it’s needs a firmware update, which they did about 2 weeks ago. Since Tuesday morning we get either high battery voltage or battery open error. This is only in the morning. I emailed the Luxpower support and they said battery might not be compatible. Can anyone please help me with settings or how to get the battery connected properly for bms to work. I’d appreciate any advice or help from the experts
