Drowned batteries... repairable,

Featured Replies

Somebody asked me if this batteries is repairable.

Where do I ask?

The installers is nowhere to find.

I would imagine that the cells may be salvageable, but not the BMS PCBs. Even if tested, water damage has a nasty way of corroding tracks and contacts in multi-layer boards, with faults only showing many months later. In a BMS application this could have quite spectacular results.

If insured, they would belong to the insurance company in any case.

@BritishRacingGreenhas savaged 2 flood damaged OG7.2 Kodak inverters & literally brought them back to life. If there is someone who's opinion I would trust on this it's his. He has also repaired blown Pylontech BMSs outside of warranty successfully so.

What is important is if the Conformal coating was still intact & that the batteries were off at the time of the event.

Hi Steve thanks for kind words, but if one must endeavour  pulling thru a storage with this damage, I  would only attempt after someone like yourself would certify the LIFEPO4 chemistry as servicable.

You are right, the conformal coating helps a great deal at most times.

While I am not a fan of Pylon, I do trust the integrity of the BMS safety mechanisms.

Hi, please elaborate. What don't you like about pylontech?

@FixAMess I certainly dont dislike Pylons, and there is a reason for it. They are reliable, best in class, defacto industry standard.  But they are expensive when it comes to matching the minimum requirement for a 5Kw inverter because of 0.5C spec. So if you require that 100A  discharge you need to start combining batteries. 2 x US3000C is not cheap. 1 x UP5000 not enough, although the latter can handle peak for a number of seconds.

Of course when you need higher capacity anyway, the 0.5C becomes irrelavent. But not really suited for entry level 4.8kw/5kw requirements.  If I may, its not a poor man's battery.

My son in law bought a Pylon UP5000 for his Axpert MKS3. I was somwhat tongue in the cheek, but I must report that he enjoys quite a good pairing, although he manages his load comsumption very well.

And at the price of, i think about 25k, its surprisingly very good value.

EDIT : and  the BMS pairing with inverter charger just works out of the box. The RS485 Pylon protocol seems to be very stable in general, and i regard this as industry standard.

Hello Pollas, Yes, if you do not have insurance, I will take on those Pylontech batteries. Even if not repairable, they could donate cells if some cells in my 2 US3000's eventually dies. I build powerwalls from recycled 18650's and also interested in experimenting with salvaging usable LFP pouch cells. PM contact detail and we can arrange logistics.

I am totally agree with you @BritishRacingGreen, i my case i prefer chineses LFP batteries because they use standard prismatics LFP cells that can be easily replaced in case of problems. But for the quality of the BMS....this is a good question 😬

Actualy i use a custom 18650 DIY powerwall, but i will migrate to LFP because the Li-Ion 18650s usage life is limited (3-4 years max) and safety reasons.

Hallo, hebt u de verdronken batterij nog?

Ik ben opzoek naar een lege kast .

Ik heb een us2000C en heb de deksel en strips die de cellen vasthoud nodig

Graag berichtje terug aub

Peter
