Pity just missed out on the year... Zimbabwe does not allow importing vehicles 10years or older anymore. What have you been using to charge this, PV or Eskom through your car charger?

What is the range on it @Carl

He says 60km and the picture shows 55km.

Apparently it is meant to get around 120km range when new and I believe is meant to have a 24kWh battery pack.

Current range that it charges to is between 55 - 65 KM. Range is calculated after every recharge and is based on previous trip conditions.

The battery pack is a standard 24kWh pack and a new pack will give you 180 KM range in summer and around 160 KM in winter. That is for moderate driving.

Our long term average for over 2 years of driving is 7.5 KM / KWh (That works out at around 40 cents / km charging from the grid in Cape Town)

Hi Carl, Yes, would like that Leaf for the 20km school run. Will send detail by PM.

Have excess production on my solar PV to charge with.

Am in Gauteng but flying down to Cape for the holidays. However, will have to send the leaf by trailer...

Battery is shot,  R200k for new battery? - have 2 Leaf's, am looking for parts - i.e. to cannibalise- cheaper than to import parts! Fast charger, and 100% charge kills these batteries!! Got latest one with 10 bars for R50k, and spent another R30k to fix! Kids LOVE the "Golf Carts"! To date best zippiest car we have had

Anybody got an idea if possible to plug the ChaDemo into eg Sunsync Hybrid Inverter ? Not worth importing other inverters yet - dying to go the V2H route - original reason for buying the Leaf's.

Carl, the car looks beautiful - have you not considered putting in a 40kW battery pack, and keeping the car - will last you another 10 years at least!! Nissan only brought in 94 of these "SA experimental" if I recall correctly? Our one has 95k Km on 8 bar and the other 120k km  10 bar, but this being the second battery pack - learnt the hard way never run below 20% and never charge above 80%!!

Saw a video of a guy using his Nissan Leaf and connected the CHADEMO plug to one of the MPPT controllers on his inverter and using it as a battery for his house.

The battery is a 408V battery so as long as you have a high voltage MPPT is not an issue and the MPPT controller pulls as much power as it needs from the battery.

Thanks Charl, we have another leaf with 11 bars (150 KM range) which should be good for our driving requirements for at least another 6 years.

The Guys over at Custom Lithium are building replacement packs for these Nissan leafs 40Kwh with 300kms +, given the average cycle life of NMC cells that would yield a life span of 600 000kms to 80% (2000 cycles with each cycle giving 300kms ) Lets work on worst case that would mean less than half the life span for our climate and or our current conditions ( say the battery only gave 1000 cycles ) thats still 300 000kms to 80% remaining capacity . Not bad i think .

This are great cars , I have 2 of them in Gauteng Midrand I am off the grid and I use free power to charge and drive for free for the past 6 years.

Its time to replace both batteries nd already ordered one in China

For electric cars that does not apply
