ICC-Solar

When having purchased a 5kw axpert recently and having had a look around at the monitoring options out there and tried them all I had nothing but frustration.

Either the solution was primitive or very overpriced and just not what I was looking for.

Keep in mind I currently code for a living.

A quick time vs effort on the open source variants indicated I would have to spend quite some time getting any of the open source options into some kind of shape, time I could be using for anything else.

I wanted a low cost just works route to monitor the axpert which the available open source options just are not.

Enter ICC and a cheap chinese smart tv android box I was no longer using.

I then installed a suitable ubuntu variant onto the chinese tv box, contacted Manie, got a license and its been working great ever since.

In fact it seems it can work on anything linux related, not just pi's. it also updates just fine.

I cannot recommend ICC enough, the ICC, smart tv solution hasn't given a days issue. I found Manie to be a great guy, always answered my emails, there weren't many, along the lines of letting him know it was all working.

On reboot/startup it does a file system integrity check automatically, you need it in case of sudden power loss. For those having sd issues its a good starting point.

Remote access is via window remote desktop or remotetoGo for mobile.

I hope my experience helps someone out there also just looking for a decent hassle free Axpert monitoring solution which I've found ICC to be.

  • @Manie may not participate on the forum but is always available on his website. Besides ICC will tell you when a new version is available, at least my ICC-Pi does and also describes the changes. Then

  • As I understand it, the product forked. Forking happens routinely in software when there are differences of opinion among the developers. For example, Firefox split off the Mozilla project becaus

  • You missed the great software wars of back then. I still have no idea what exactly happened, but when it was over ICC was almost open source and a whole bunch of members had left the forum, or at leas

Having written the above it occurs to me a nice 7|" / 10" tablet with ICC and ubuntu loaded might be a good next step and likely easily accomplished. I'll have a look as time allows, might be a nice non pi additional option.

Wow, I got ICC-Solar on Pi running yesterday. This is absolutely brilliant.  Awesome piece of software. Is Manie no longer on these forums - havent seen his posts since about Jan 2018. Anyway thanks Manie.

Just had to comment on it.

Hello, do you know anything about the ICC store? Did Manie have any problems? What happened to the store? Did it close permanently?

I can only speak from my experiences. My ICC stopped working on 19 July 2024. Riaan and Manie told me few months back that ICC software reached end of life and will no longer be getting any supports and told me to buy ICM transfer key.

Lucky I got ICM software as a replacement (same people for me to try it but don't like it so back to ICC) I bought it early in March 2023 to keep it going yet I find the settings were too difficult with lack of supports so I had copy the ICC value settings and lots of features with no clear instructions.. It works fine on ICM for 2 weeks yet I completely gave up on ICM and found another replacement. Not sure what to do with PI and ICM software as I'm not using it anymore.

I don't know what happen to Maine. I tried to email and phone yet no respond whatsoever. The website is still up by the time of writing this post. The ICM software is not able to get the latest version number because I started from scratch of old version number which tells me the ICM software not able to communicate Manie's server to get version updates.

Unfortunately Manie has passed away.
