Advice needed, Converting inverter from 48v to 24v

Featured Replies

Hi everyone.

I know this sounds crazy, but I have two inverters with the same model and brand, a 3.5Kw and 5.5Kw, both with the exact same controller, same firmware with different values for sure.

So, is it possible to convert the 5.5kw to work with 24v batteries instead of 48v without problems?

you need the 24V in series to make 48V and then using Voltage as the charging method on the 5.5kw. Which inverter do you? Deye or Sunsynk?

Also check if the batteries can be connected in series, some manufacturers do not recommend it

If you mean can you easily convert a 48 V inverter into a 24 V inverter, the short answer is no.

You would need a different transformer turns ratio, dozens of different parts, different firmware, it's endless.

It's a sorotec 5.5k 48v off-grid inverter

Yes that exactly what i meant, thanks for the quick answer, actually I'm working on updating the firmware of 150+ Sorotec inverters of both 3.5 and 5.5kw, and in fact what wondering me is I heared that someone was able to convert a 48v inverter to 24v (I believe it's voltronic) but I didn't know how, and waiting the answer from who told me this.

I'll keep you posted if a get a clear answer.

Good luck with this. I would rather sell it and buy the one you need.

I'm afraid you got told inaccurate or false information. With a quick thinking, the only easy way (a shortcut) that came to my mind is to use a DC-DC step-down circuit to lower battery voltage from 48 to 24. I don't know, but anyways it's a completely wrong practice.

I guess running over 100A with a DC-DC converter will cost more than a new inverter?

Yeah, it was a wild idea trying to match with a wild thing! I'm very skeptical about the possibility too.
