Power4Less Omnivolt G2 Hybrid Inverter (Details and Review)

Featured Replies

I've came across this brand of inverter + battery combo by accident. Basically was looking for replacement 100Ah Lithium batteries. Long story short, these inverters (especially Power4Less Omnivolt G2 3 kW Hybrid Kit at R4,999.00 at Builders Warehouse) was cheaper than buying 2 x 105Ah Lithium batteries.

So I looked at the other options:

They are all priced under the cost of just the batteries they contain. All of them come with the exact same size LiFePO4 battery.

My biggest problem is that there is absolutely zero information about these units online. Not even the limited-built-by-a-marketing-team Power4Less website (https://pwr4less.com/), has any technical information on them.

But with the ability to buy a 8kW inverter, including a 8kWh LiFePO4 battery for R15k. I decided this seems like a good starting point to get involved in setting up Solar for my home based office and house. I've used the UPS (load shedding) trolley as a way to keep my office server running 24/7, and it is not the best at it, as it can only sustain about 2-4 hours with the current Lead Acid batteries. But with this unit, even if it is bad in many ways will keep the server up for much longer.

So the reason for posting this is to ask if anyone have tried the Power4Less units? (I also don't even know how long they have been available) Look at the original prices, I believe that there were many alternatives that you can go for with much more information on how they work and their abilities. I would not dump R60k on something that has so little information.

Also to their credit, they [were/are] sold as fully installed solutions. So when you paid the full price, that also included someone installing it at your house. This is probably why it was so expensive. It seems like with the lower price they have dropped the installation. But even still without the installation, they are currently cheaper than the LiFePO4 batteries that come with them.

So I've invested (I hope) in the 8kW option, and wanted to start a new thread where I can post the specs and experience I have with the unit once it has arrived and I can take decent photos and test/install the unit.

@Bernard du Toit Good find!

But I suspect that this is why the link you provided doesn't work, as those prices are indeed too good to be true. Something one would expect from a scammer, not form BWH.

Anyway, one can "learn" a lot by looking at the pictures alone, and here is my observation's:

1) The BMS used, seems to be a Pace BMS, as the battery port etc layout follows the typical Pace one. Only way to find out what goes on inside from a Battery perspective is to connect a PC with correct tools & RS232 cable to see at least if it is a 16S config.

2) Inverter. The layout of the port looks like typical Voltronics' type, as the parallel ports are clearly seen.

3) What is OK, is that the Inverter seems to support BMS operations (via CAN, I hope) AND a RS485 port, so presumably one can at least try and build one's own monitoring system for this.

4) What is weird though is why they didn't "internalise" the BMS cable, and removed the port altogether (cost saving). Just make things easier, so customers (never mind installers) don't struggle to get things working.

General,

I supposed pretty decent kit, apart from the fact that it is Voltronics based, and they are well known for not sorting out bugs, like charging, stuck on 90V PV, etc. Plenty of threads here on this forum covering those topics.

A good option for people with limited budget (although those BWH priced would be very sweet). nevertheless.

I'm sure other can add to this in time...

Oh just quickly, this is funny! When I search for the products I can still find them on Builders.co.za but when I click on the link the site says the page are not there. Attached is the two screenshots of the result when you search for "power4less" and then just filter based on the "power4less" brand.

Thanks @Sidewinder , this is very good information to start off with. I unfortunately don't know inverters as well as you do, so I can't even agree or not. But the way you describe everything sounds like it could be as you mentioned. The units also claim that they have WiFi monitoring, and it seems to be included. So not sure if this would be helpful. But honestly I'm now wondering if they will just refund me rather than sending me an 8kW inverter for this price 🤣

Appreciate your effort! If I do get the unit I will be able to confirm your findings by being able to send more detailed pictures or photos of the tags.

Look if you read up on the Power4Less website, on their about us page, you can see it is apparently two women that are the owners. I have nothing against women, but I don't expect that they started the company as two electrical engineers invested in PV. (Basically compare that to SunSync's owner/ceo/youtube guy. He sounds and look like someone that has a passion for PV). So I believe this was a simple business in a box type of start-up and I also believe that the hardware will be clones or assembled from existing (like all else, China inverters) just to get something out of the door, cheaply.

This also explains the lack of technical information, like user manuals and data sheets from the website.

What is it with solar products/companies!

Just check all of the Power4Less products, even the expensive Solar kit is now showing this error. Maybe since last night some have notices the deals are too good to be true and bought a bunch of them.

I also bought two Goscor LiFePO4 100Ah batteries for R2,080.00 (excl.) for both! (Also a steal!) from https://offgridpowersolutions.co.za/ . Just after that they confirmed that they are assembling my order and immediately after the batteries was "out of stock" on the site, but when I bought there were more than 2 left in stock.

The battery size does indeed match the Inverter capacity, so the 10kW version would have a 10kWh battery.

PS, Installation without solar panels would be relative cheap, as all wiring (cabling) between battery and Inverter is sorted. It's basically just a one day job or less for a decent electrician, with wiring to and from your DB. Will need some extra space for a change-over switch, +more space if you are going to split your house Essential/Non Essential, and make provision for a couple a Wifi Switches to remotely control high demand devices.

With regards to monitoring. Yes a USB port is supplied, but somehow I doubt if the dongle is included. Normally, the industry standard is RS232 for the wifi dongle, a la Sunsynk/Deye and many others, but I'm sure one can get the correct version.

We are taking bets now... what will it be... a refund or an inverter...

btw. I'm not the only one that bought one, I saw on https://carbonite.co.za/index.php?threads/deals-deals-deals-3-0.570886/post-3970359 another guy bought a 3kW one.

I see the links are working again today, and the prices are still the same. You can use the links in my first post or just find the items on the website!

Edit: Also I have confirmation that the units are being delivered. The guy from carbonite.co.za that ordered the 3kW unit has received his unit today!

Adding delivery confirmation.

Convinced my brother to buy the 8kw/8kwh as well. This is a serious bargain, provided the inverter isn't total garbage. But sold be builders so I imagine warranty will be honored. But basically add another R15k for panels mounting etc and you have 8kw/8kwh/3.6kwp for R30k! It cost me that to install just one Sunsynk 5kw without battery 3 years ago!!

You can't even buy 16x150ah lifepo4 cells for much less than R15k.

Once we have the first units to investigate we will quickly know if it is totally garbage. Based on current feedback I will have mine only by next week Tuesday/Wednesday.

Based on my [limited knowledge] assessment, a 8kW unit is basically large enough to put most if not all of your house on solar.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I remember the earlier Hybrid inverters (1) lacked the ability to use both grid (AC) + battery (DC) + solar (DC) to sustain your critical load and would switched to a grid bypass (or generator power) as soon as the sun + batteries didn't provide enough power?

Then later they gained the ability to use grid + solar + batteries for the critical load, but (2) lacked the ability to push power back to your non-critical load (without export). Something newer expensive units like SunSync and DAYA can do now.

So I'm curious if these units will be able to do 1, or 1 and 2. I will not put my money on (2) but I'm hopeful it can do at least (1). I have not research Voltronics units like @Sidewinder suggested.

Correct - that feature was added around 2018 if I recall. My Voltronic VMiii had it in 2020. I believe some very budget models don't have it still but most do, so I'm hopeful it can blend. It's not the end of the world to not have though - just means you cycle your battery a bit more.

I can all but guaranty it won't be able to push back to non-essential loads.

Are you aware of any budget (Cheaper than DEYE and SunSync) line inverters available today that can do the push back?

It's really hard to know if budget models have the feature or not. The base models are not clearly indicated on the rebranded units most of the time.

I think the newer Luxpower SNA6000 comes with a CT coil and is available around R10k. I don't think any of the Voltronic inverters have the option of a CT coil, but I haven't researched this much recently.

Thanks I'll look at Luxpower, I did see they seem to be mentioned a lot. I also had the idea of looking for the CT coil as this is required, but again you have to really dig or watch "unboxing" videos to see if it is included 😅

Solis hybrid inverters come in at a bit cheaper than the Sunsynk and Deye brands. Available on the Powerforum store as an example, the Deye 5kW is around R16,859 whereas the Solis 5kW is on special at R13,455. It's still not in the price class of the off-grid Axpert-type inverters though.

Thanks! No this price range is also fine. You can't get these premium features if you go for the bottom ranges. It's just that the DEYE and Sunsynk is really expensive (not even mentioning Victron).

I'll research the Solis brand as well.

I took delivery of my 5 kW Unit Today.

Bernard you know anything about the install service (the tick box that was optional) ? I have not heard anything.

I phoned them and they confirmed that mine is delivering on Friday. I did not heard anything from the installation service. I highly doubt it exist anymore, since they said the courier will deliver the unit and also the checkbox changed nothing on the order.

Cool stuff, Yeah for the price paid I wont hold my breath. Seems like a got weekend project then.
Its weird that yours takes so long as mine surely was shipped from JNB->PE.

I must maybe switch it on with no load and check the SoC to confirm the 1 star review.

Yes I'm also unclear as to why it is only coming on Friday, I expected it to be today since I ordered my last week Monday. I'm in Bloem, guess they first have to ship it to Cape Town 🤣

They confirmed my order will arrive in Durban (Westville) on the 23rd.

Let us know the SoC and what was in the box (according to builders there should have been a number of installation items). Also, are you able to share the specs on the inverter (I bought the 8kw, but interested about the others too)? Want to start looking at what panels I can use with this.

So on a side note. I just took delivery of my Goscor LiFePO4 100Ah batteries for R1,040.00 each. They look normal, but here is a picture of a thousand words:

20260218_163834 (Large).jpg

I'm going to install them into my "Smart Power System" SPS-1000 (Loadshedding) UPS. So can't say I have any details to provide for them. But regarding the UPS, this thing is very awesome to have, I have a box PC that stays on 24/7 as a backup server but I also work on it on a daily basis. This trolley had numerous times where it would flip in and out of service, to protect everything from slight lightning surges, when I accidentally trip the power, or when they cut the power to work on lines. It could sustain the load for 4 hours with Lead Acid batteries. They did deteriorate fast, as they were basically damaged after about 2 years.
