  • I am most grateful for the top class advice from forum members - this forum really is a fantastic resource. And the time given to answering questions is incredible!!! Really appreciated guy

  • Similar here in Europe Okay, so if that's the case then keep in mind that the problem with ALL hybrid inverters is, that they are feeding-in back to the grid. Some of the hybrids are able to lim

  • Yes. Some don't parallel, because they have small processors without enough RAM and enough horsepower. In general, the VM series (VM II, VM III) are Value models (the M is for MPPT, the VP series are

Look, they are great inverters for the price. As long as you don't mention them in the same sentence as Victron.

There are not that many different models so you would simply pick one that suits your needs.

For example (horror) I am looking to get one of their cheap 3KW units as a UPS to supply power to street lights, gate motor and CCTV security camera system in the housing estate I live in. Not planning to use the built in MPPT for this installation so COCT can go and get knotted.

Anyone else have a differing view?😀

Get one that suits you needs. Keep in mind it is not approved by  CoCT to use on grid with PV panels connected to it. But it's fine for Offgrid use, or as a UPS.

Which one to get?

What are your needs? Start there first.

How does the change over switch work when one has an Aexpert?

The same as it would on a generator. IF you want a COC you need a changeover switch between the house & the sub generation input, i.e. it is there to change back to Eskom when needed.

BTW, this is the best product portfolio overview for Axpert that I know of: http://voltronicpower.com/files/pl/companybrochureB5-forInterSolar.pdf

Contains the specsheets of InfiniSolar, Axpert and accessories. Axpert line starts on the page 18.

Quite popular Axperts are:

  • VMII
  • VMIII
  • King
  • MKS

Speaking of change over, there's a built-in relay in a typical Axpert unit. It's an off-grid design, so the load can be powered from the solar+batteries OR from the grid. Mixing of grid power with the power of solar panels is normally not possible with these units. AFAIK, the only model that is capable of mixing the grid power with solar power is the King.

Thanks for the useful web link!

None of them. 🙂

I'm with plonkster on this one. Rather save up some more money and buy something with a buck-up in its name. Had my inverter for 2 months and then it gave the error 09 code. Waiting for responds back from Voltronic to see if they can fix it 🙏 I hope so.

give Easy power solar a call to repair. very quick and should be around R2k to repair a 5kva system.
InfiniSolar 5kw and 10kw are pretty good from my experience.

@Fazil thanks. I already booked it in at Voltronic in cape town side because most of the solar places this side recommend them.

Great idea!

Would Mecer brand be OK?

If I am not mistaken, the AXPERT / MECER /MPP and a few others are all made by VOLTRONIC? As I understand, VOLTRONIC is the manufacturer, and each of the suppliers brands the units with their name? The MECER is imported by MUSTEK?

I'm at the same point, where I am negotiating the virtual minefield of inverters, and which will suit my needs/budget? Hours and hours spent reading posts and watching YOUTUBE videos, and sadly, I feel more confused now then when I started. As soon as I find a unit I think will be a great purchase, the unit is either not available locally, or wat too costly for my available cash?

I can import, as I am a licensed importer, but then run the risk of purchasing something with little to no back-up locally?

I think everything is re-badged . Why I mentioned Mecer is maybe they offer warranty support???

In fact other than Victron I wonder if there is any real warranty support/repair locally for any inverter. Such a specialised field. Can't be easy to find people for this job.

This going solar is very frustrating! Minefields all over. Forum is a wonderful resource and I am amazed at the knowledge here.

I am sure they are all consultants to Tesla!😀

Maybe they hope to get freebies from TESLA if they plug it enough? LMAO

Minefields!  Lets ignore supplies -  most of everything is back ordered.

This is extremely high tech and there seem to be a fair number of post installation problems.

First you have the AC side - difficult to find sparkies who have a lot of experience with solar.

And  some sparkies have now taken on installing as well!

Then the DC side again not easy to find an installer who really understands the regulations

and who I would call an expert.

And then you have the COC hurdle and if you are in Cape Town their approval process.

Whew!  Why is my blood pressure rising. Comrades Marathon looks easy by comparison.

I imagine, making use of a company like MUSTEK, would hopefully offer a better chance of local support/warrantee? I can't comment though, as I have not had any dealings with MUSTEK/MECER. I am not interested in feeding back to the grid, as I do not see how ESKOM would pay a premium price for renewable energy, when they can generate for less than half the cost. I foresee that this credit process will be delayed for as long as possible, and every obstacle possible will be introduced to try to dissuade people from this process.

Even though I am not interesting in feeding in the utility grid, I am still leaning towards the INFINISOLAR inverter range. I think I will end up installing 2 of these to achieve my 10kva end goal.

My EFERGY monitor showed my consumption averaging around 2kwh last night, but the dam EFERGY server had issues during the night, and I dont have enough data on this yet.
