AndrewJdc reacted to I84RiS in Wattage frustration
This might be to low to turn on the MPPT or it might drop in and out of the MPPT range as the elements (heat, clouds) impact the PV panels. If the input voltage is to low to turn on the MPPT zero curent will be produced (meaning zero watts even though there is 129v)
What is the MPPT range printed on the labels on the side of the inverter?
What is the panel specs (VOC, VMP etc)?

Good evening all after being out of action due to above medical reasons. I will keep this short so we can concentrate on solar matters.
It was close for me leaving this life. I am thankful for world class physician and surgeons in the C care Welkin hospital in Moka. Special thanks to my wife that endured the long waits at the hospital.
Just a brief summary as to what got me in hospital.
I was originally admitted for hypoxemia where my blood oxygen saturation was below 82%.with 3 blood clots in the lungs.
I was diagnosed (Laboratoire Cerba) in Paris with a clotting disorder called thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS), and it is rare—an updated safety analysis showed that, as of March 19 out of more than 2.2 million people who got J&J,Vaccines 294 cases of TTS were reported and thirty people died due to clots in the lungs. I am currently on Rivaroxaban (Anticoagulants) under the brand name Xarelto.
I will be home soon to rest for a while before getting into my daily routine.
Many many thanks for all you guys that rallied your support around me in my diffucult time it is highly appreciated.
Forgive me if any above is written a bit bonkers i am still very queasy from the op and all the medications that is now finding their way out the body.
    Have a good evening.

    Good afternoon all,
First of all @TaliaBis doing much better and is now in the general ward awaiting pathology tests that has been sent to Paris 'Laboratoire Cerba" operates on the French and international markets of specialized clinical pathology. The reason the physician had made the decision to seek specialized intervention is they can't find any traces of DVT( deep vein thrombosis) where the blood clots could have originated from and no injury or surgery that could have been the causes of the clots in the lungs.  According to @TaliaB brother they are not comfortable to discharge him until the results is known from the pathologist in France. He is taken off all oxygen and breathing freely and comfortable. He is still on blood thinning iv as a precaution measure. By the sounds of it he is now desperate to get back home to Cpt who can blame him.
Hopefully this will be my last update as i am sure he will be back on the forum soon then he can share more detailed information about the cause of the sudden blood clots.
    Regards
    Derek.

AndrewJdc got a reaction from axisK in New to Solar with lots of questions
2nd last bullet: not entirely sure what you referring to but you don't want to discharge your battery to deep iot to extend its life.  Depth of discharge you can go down to depends on manufacturer.  If the 20% refers to the Time of Use setting then you'll use batteries instead of grid till you get to 20%.

Last bullet: if you want to see savings choose "load first" setting.  With that amount of panels you should be able to run your load and charge batteries during the day using solar.  Of course this is load , orientation of your panels, etc .....dependant.  I would not use 100% during the day but stick to the 40%.  Use your solar and battery power to maximize savings.

He did contact me as well last night & was in high spirits albeit not in the best shape. Godspeed to him & his family in this difficult time. He has been such a massive contributor to this forum & I hope he continues to do so. If I hear from him I will also revert.

AndrewJdc got a reaction from ibiza in Fire risk of solar, battery installation
My opinion: Fire risk could be due to electrical short (electrical fire) or bad battery cell (chemical fire).  Doubt that engine heat will be a problem.  Lead acid batteries sits right next to the engine in most cars.

There are guys out there trying to make a quick buck, there are guys without good skills... It's hard to know what you're getting. I remember when I first ventured into solar it was hard to know who to entrust and what was a good deal.
Looking around for references is only so helpful. When we first go solar, we don't know what to expect, but if it got us through a load shed then great.
I have seen recent installations in my area with South facing panels. That raises question marks about the installer.
Price is a consideration, of course, but it's not everything.
Example. I recently got in-ceiling insulation for my home. I contacted various companies. Some never responded. Some had a chat over the phone and said well that's about X square meters so about this much. This with no inspection. Exactly one company sent out somebody to measure, to inspect for downlighters (they put little insulating caps over those), if there was old insulation in there already etc. They were also going to give an SABS certificate that I could pass on to my insurers. I found out that there's a lot of guys in the insulation business doing it as a side hustle.
Same applies here. Have they come out and visited you and inspected? Have they discussed your requirements and your current usage? Get details of what they're providing. Do they include surge protection? Does the quote include splitting the DB, all the fuses including between battery and inverter? Do they take care of all the paperwork with the City? (they'll all say yes, so this is a case where references will help).
I went in blind. The guys who did my install did make a site visit, did discuss my requirements, did look around for sub DBs and asked what was on them. Looking back they did a lot of things right, but I didn't know that at the time. I do know that I wouldn't have dealt with anybody who didn't have that chat with me, or (as with the insulation) was too glib.
How long have they been doing this? My installer is still around. I know other folks who have been left with no support. My installer is not just still around, but is offering maintenance packages, and, 6 years down the line, recently intervened with the inverter and battery manufacturers on my behalf. And that's worth something.
The company is solar4life. Currently they only operate in Gauteng and Durban, so not much use to you.

After an electric conversion, do they still leak oil? Get some pics from your friend fi he doesn't mind and share!

First check for DC voltage at PV2 breaker. If there is none then you have a problem with connections or a faulty panel. This is really a qualified persons job. Best to find another installer.
