@Sarel Man I still have my fluke 77 been with me for more than 30 years, still works like a dream, got it when I worked at Eskom Taaibos Power Station. the first PF fired Power Station in the southern hemisphere.

That brings back fond memories , Fluke77, used it many times in bush war to repair ratel, eland , Bedford , oshikati town  power generator.  It is now retired war veteran.

SAP was actually the core force on border, don't think many people know that , army was only support really.

It was probably you okes that prevented us from tuning the B52' to Angolan music stations !

I was only  a humble Tiffie in HQ , only contact I ever had was Ondangwa and Oshikati mosquitos . Plenty of that , Sarel, those mossies was as big as little chickens.true story😊.

@dropkick I see you like the old 6502 8 bit CPU, my first program I wrote was on a Ohio Superboard II computer using that CPU. Since then things have just gone down hill, except the Sinclair's and Amiga's. With "Wintel", things are just boring, nothing like the early days. The poor kids of today will never know the exciting "vibe" of those early computer years.

I remember the Ohio , was very popular in UK . I bought the ACORN Atom , and the rest is history. I am up to this day passionate .   Also had C64 and then BBC model B .  Then 16 bit MC68000. Pity the latter fell out of contention to the Intel 8086 for the PC . World would have been a better place . 

Prior to that revolution , only way you could program was punching cards in Fortran and bought some time on mainframe. 

There was big wars then  between the Z80 and 6502 factions. I loved every moment of it.😊

Later gen people like Eben Upton  was inspired by those periods and hence the birth of raspberry Pi .

@TimCamwhen the 6502 got short supplied and then obsolete, I started instantiating them on FPGA silicon using Verilog models .  That was fun , 4 of them running at 80 MHz in hardware lock step. 

Many people still use 6502 on FPGA as deeply embedded support  controllers, due to its small silicon footprint.

Restored to fully functional my HP150 touchscreen, also have one Apple IIs and a few other things, but my C64, Vic20 and Sinclair walked off with my Fluke during a house relocation many years ago.

I learned to program on a Vic20. Ridiculous by modern standards - you didn't even have the full 20K of memory available to the programmer.

It was an exciting time in personal computing because people were creating according to their needs or for a challenge, whereas now it is commoditised, but I still program for a living and it's an activity I still enjoy.

It seems we all have a story to tell maybe we should start a separate thread in the general chat  

83/84/85 in SWA and Angola a delivery  driver for  G5 rounds to to Cuvelai during ops Askari and a few other interesting adventures ... base relocations for Unita on a few occasions and buffel driver for 32 battalion during the JMC ... koevoet were like the wild dogs on the border we could hear them coming from 10 km away ... compared to the 32 lads were so quiet ... 28 days in the bush without a shower and rationed to 4 litres of water certainly makes you appreciate a hot shower.

Imagine if the lads had solar/inverters and lithium batteries back them ... especially for the signals ... I think carrying a lithium battery would have been way lighter.  

Running a generator wasnt an issue ... you could just park a 10 Ton fuel truck next to the generator.

I purchased the AM-2 batteries right here from PowerForum Shop in Oct 2021, and started using them on 12 Nov 2021 - so new.

New, the batteries reported 110Ah,110Ah,110Ah,110Ah=440Ah capacity.

I have just issued a client with a brand new Hubble due to a cell failure. So Hubble will resolve the issue, whatever that may be.

The fuses are 160A. I limit the charge and discharge on the inverter to 155A
