Imagine free delivery

Just think about of it if everything could be delivered for free.

As a seller so many mistakes in the specs.

The cells are 50Ah but the battery is 100Ah.

And only to dream of to have 5 star reviews. A pity they nameless.

Batteries from the future! 😆. Seriously, I bought mine from these dogdy types some time ago without doing the research. I got lucky and my battery still works great 4 years later but it was not a pleasant experience getting it. It was not a new battery either. I know of some that only lasted a year. Stay away and warn others.

Interesting...  They sell on Takealot too, so unlikely to be a complete scam. If you buy there at least you get 30 days to do proper testing with some security.  Might actually be interesting to try these.

Although Takealot gives a bit of confidence. About 5 yrs ago I bought via Takealot and got a 2nd hand battery. Apart from only having 50% of capacity the give away was the scratch marks on the smooth top with shiny surface. Also the 3 spring washers only on the positive pole.

I had to motivate before they decided I can return it.

It feels like Takealot has become a flea market for cheap/poor products but at least I can still get good deals on well known products there as well.

How much do they generally charge for delivery of a 50kg battery?

Surcharge can be R200. Not sure if it is 50kg but 28kg is about R200.

I am one of the founders of the G Lantern brand. So much to comment on here, but I'll try to keep this short and sweet :)

@Scorp007, @Virwat, @Thunderbolt - Thank you for pointing out the errors on our website. We have got our website team to rectify the errors (those errors are indeed embarrassing and we have had a very stern word with our website guys about it).

@Scorp007, the link you initially posted was intended for our 'launch campaign' in early March this year. ie. it is no longer active as it served a temporary purpose. ie. to initially launch the product/brand. As you can see, we have an official website too which serves as our main ecommerce store.

Guys, I understand when coming across a new brand online it's very easy to be skeptical. But please be mindful of what you say on forums like this as you could be hurting a brand/company unfairly.

When searching for our brand in google, this post now shows up in the search results and implies that we are not an authentic company, not to be trusted etc which is not only false, but it can unfairly complicate things for us as a brand and cost us dearly. If any of you are business owners I'm sure you can relate.

Our goal is simple: to provide good quality lithium batteries at an affordable price point to South Africans. Not everyone can afford R25k for a 48V (or 51.2V) battery as we all know, hence the response to our product has honestly been great and we are very grateful for that.

@JustinSchoeman - you are right, we do indeed sell on Takealot too. We are actually out of stock currently (aside from having a few 12V models left). We sold out of our first batch in half the time that we thought we would. We will have new stock only in a few weeks and from that point on we should always have stock on hand.

Thank you all. I appreciate your understanding and time.

That may be a sincere attempt to do damage control.
Takes more to convince me. There is not a single name of the founders/owners to be found, not in this response nor on the website. Neither is there an email address of this company evident on the site.
The address provided is of a block of residential flats in Cape Town?
Perhaps one of the installers whose names and testimony are used on the website could support the claims on this forum?

More points to raise: so many nameless positive reviews on their web site, yet not a single one on Google or hellopeter or anywhere else? But according to web site they've been operating since sometime in 2023? Also, no company or VAT registration number listed anywhere? Too many red flags.

@zsde - it is so sad that there is so little trust in the ecommerce space in South Africa. Too many dodgy operators and opportunists out there, I get it.

It is very normal these days to have a 'Contact Us' form instead of specifying an email address directly on the website itself. Spammers crawl websites these days and collect email addresses that are publicly 'exposed'.

The physical address is my personal address in Cape Town (if you must know). Remember, we are an ecommerce store. Previously we were using a small storage facility for our stock, and are now moving over to using https://parcelit.co.za/ for our fulfillment end to end.

Feel free to contact them and chat to Alex (one of the founders of Parcel-It). He should be able to confirm that we are indeed a legitimate business and that we are one of his many clients. If you think they are not a real business either then I'm not sure what else I can do to convince you here. They're grown from strength to strength and have been around since 2018/2019.

Happy to have a call with you if that suits you. I have dropped you a private message with my personal mobile number. Obviously I cannot post my person mobile number directly within this post as this is a public forum and I'll get spammed like there's no tomorrow.

As a brand, we really don't intend to get into an on going debate, I trust the above information is sufficient in order for you to verify what you need to.

Thanks again for your time.

@p_i - eCommerce stores do not need to have a VAT registration number or personal names attached to their reviews to be a legitimate company. We have chosen to allow our clients to remain anonymous (for obvious reasons). Once again, happy to have a personal call with you at a time that suits you. I have also dropped you a private message with my personal mobile number.

As you have also probably read above in previous comments, we sell on Takealot too. You're welcome to search for us on there too, even though I think we only have 12V battery models available currently (at the time of writing this post anyway).

I do indeed take notice of what you responded to here as well as your request via the PM.

Please don't blame me as the person who started this topic. Your web page link did indeed indicate 100 Ah in the link and going deeper into the specification it mentioned that the cells are 50 Ah. I will agree with others that when one goes to selling in the public domain then one should not have errors like this. That remains your responsibility.

When there are so many future dated great reviews one will wonder how do so many buyers have wrong up to 9 months future dates on their devices. Not a problem if names are not mentioned.

AFAIK the topic cannot be deleted once placed on the forum and it is only admin that can with good reason delete topics or members.

May I be your proof reader once again. The web STILL shows 3 and 5 year warranties?

_web-batt.jpg.6b1cc6afd0f5a205ff8bcf777743e895.jpg

@Scorp007 - I am not sure where you observed '50Ah' being stated within the specifications. It may have been the recommended charge current you were looking at? Either way, I will follow up with the team, you may indeed be right that this was a typo.

And yes, I fully agree with your statement regarding it being the companies responsibility to make sure their public website does not contain misleading typos etc. As we all know though, for any new website launch 'teething' issues are not an uncommon occurrence. But you're 100% right, there is no excuse for this. Thorough proof reading prevents this sort of thing from happening.

On the warranty note: our first batch came out initially with a 3 year warranty. Based on market feedback we have decided to offer an extended 5 year warranty for our next batch. As you pointed out, it has been updated on the left hand side of the product page and should have been updated on the right side too (hence the discrepancy). Once again something that was over looked by our website/content guys and I appreciate you pointing this out. I have instructed the team to perform a full audit and review of our site to make absolute sure that no typos/errors exist.

Thanks once again for your time, we appreciate the constructive feedback and will attend to the content discrepancies pointed out above.

I would say that "unfairly" is a bit of a stretch. Your site was inaccurate by your own admission. You fixed it, so you benefitted from someone doing your job for you. No-one in this thread has made any false claim/s. The only one getting paid here is you, so you cannot claim any unfairness.

Take it up with Google then. Better yet, deliver excellent service, and Google will reflect positively on your company.

Good, we don't want to have to report you to the mods for self-promotion / advertising, which is not allowed in the terms and conditions of this forum.
