  1. That’s a very interesting question. I would like to know the answer too.
  2. What can this Solis do, which SunSynk cannot?
  3. Yes that is annoying for me too. Since I want them to appear in my stats - with grid present, any excess power needs beyond 8,000w (per setting) will be taken from the grid. i.e. with grid present, these non-essentials won't overload the inverter and with grid gone, they fall away anyway. I wonder if this is a limitation in the SunSynk app. I’m using SOLARMAN with my inverter and I can see everything - essential and non-essential loads. Or maybe your CT is not installed at the right place.
  4. The problem with these are, they fit only the galvanized steel rails and only in specific mounting configuration. And besides that, when these are encountered, they just remove the rails from the roof brackets and lift the panels together with the rails. A salesperson at Rubicon showed me exactly how this was done.
  5. That’s why I was asking. When they tried to steal my neighbour’s panels, they didn’t even use an allen key to unscrew the clamps. They just bent them backwards and freed the panels. These security bolts would’ve been useless. See below:
  6. Where exactly would you use those bolts?
  7. Last week they tried twice to steal my neighbour’s solar panels. He heard them on the roof at night and shouted but they continued. He pressed the panic button and only when the security company came, they ran away. He had anti-theft clips and that’s why they couldn’t remove the panels but they damaged them. Then the following night, they came and tried again. He called the security company again and then they ran away again. But the very same night 6 panels were stolen from another house down the street.
  8. Yes @MJL, the Smart Load on AUX fits exactly your scenario. However, it all depends on how long you want you underfloor heating to stay on and if you have enough PV power to replenish the battery after that.
  9. Do you know by any chance the exact model of Pace BMS?
  10. If you need more power later you can parallel another 5kW and add more batteries.
  11. It might be a better call to buy a 5kW inverter with a battery, instead of 8kW without battery 😉
  12. You’ve got that wrong. You need to do a bit of research to understand the efficiency and rated watts.
  13. It will work if there is no loadshedding. If no grid during the day, even if the panels produce power, the inverter will shut down.
  14. Does one take this numbers, multiply it by the sq. m. of the array and then multiply by 0.2 (approximate panels efficiency 20%) in order to get predicted power? Or is there another way to do the calculation?
  15. No, the balancing is happening at 100% and when it drops to 99% should be finished.
  16. @Killerwatt did you have bad production days prior to this happening? This problem happens with other batteries as well, if you don’t charge the battery to 100% for few days. The cells become unbalanced. Try to charge the battery to 100% from the grid and hold it at 100% for couple of hours for the balancing to complete. Then see if the issue is still there. If the above doesn’t resolve the issue, the do a firmware upgrade.
  17. What is so special about the rules and regulations regarding this particular place that prevent them of using solar? I see many other medical places with solar panels on the roofs.
  18. Well, the inverter tripping is exactly some sort of protection against damaging the inverter. Now, this is like asking for another protection before the protection occurs (tripping). I don’t even know how one submits features requests to SunSynk but I doubt any positive outcome will be achieved for such feature.
  19. How exactly did you put together the different capacity cells in each 80 cells pack? Don’t they all have to be the same capacity?
  20. Well, you can take this up with SunSynk and provide us with feedback on their view.
  21. So, they are second life cells. What is the original capacity of each cell and how much is the actual total capacity of the whole pack right now? I'm interested to calculate how much capacity is lost from the original specs.
  22. Very nice! Where did you get the cells from? Did you import them directly from China?
  23. This is actually an interesting topic. What you are asking for is known as CVR (Conservation Voltage Reduction). If you google around, you can find many papers describing the benefits of using CVR. The power saving is non-existent for electronic devices and induction stoves. However, the studies suggest it works quiet well for water heaters and other devices. But you have to keep in mind, if you reduce the power of your geyser, it will take longer to heat up the water to the required temperature. I couldn't find an exact study of the effect of CVR on the longevity of home appliances but this article even claims: " One of the concerns people may have with CVR is its impact on electrical devices. However, electric utility experience, backed by extensive laboratory experiments from industry research organizations such as the Electric Power Research Institute and Pacific Northwest National Laboratories has shown most electrical appliances consume less electricity without significant loss of performance, adverse consequences or negative impacts on the appliances when operated at a reduced voltage. In fact, they tend to operate more efficiently with reduced voltage. In addition, the use of less electricity results in a lower cost to run the appliance." Souce: https://www.tdworld.com/grid-innovations/smart-grid/article/20965787/cvr-is-here-to-stay Here is another study with percentages of power reduction for various house appliances: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1876610217324281 However, @Coulomb mentioned somewhere in another thread, that it's best to set your inverter voltage as close as possible to the utility voltage, in order to reduce stress on the electronic components inside when power is lost and restored.
  24. Yes, it does add to you essentials load.
  25. The system needs to configured according to the battery specifications. That’s why if not sure, get a reputable installer to assist you.
