So finally had some overcast all day after updating to the firmware supplied by Vera at mpp and it doesn't seem to be sticking at 90v now but 115v. It also does seem to be releasing more frequently but it may not be an apples to apples test. Still a little disappointing though

Hello Guys! I read that this post is about the Axpert max 8kW. Im not sure what kind of chipset i have in it, but my problem is that the inverter at the end of the day measures with solar assistant 1 kW less on the grid side than my Sonof pow 20A smart thing. I checked out that the numbers of the sonofs are correct and yes they are. Is there anything i can do in the inverter or in the solar assistant to correct the math somehow? Thank you!

If you read the paragraph underneath the stats you will understand why they don’t match.

I known that, but i tought i can do something to correct the calculation like  configuring a file or something.

There’s nothing to fix, speak with Solar assistant support if you want.

Well, they're mere manufacturers, how can they possibly compete with the resources of amateur patchers pecking away at home? 😮

But did you take power factor into consideration?

The inverter actually goes to the trouble of calculating Root Mean Square power, your Sonof may not be. Measuring voltage and current with a multimeter and multiplying them results in apparent power (Volt Amps), not real power (Watts), if the power factor is other than unity. The inverters themselves put a moderate capacitor across the utility input, resulting in hundreds of VAR. Granted, that's not enough on its own to make the difference, but the result probably comes from your load (and the capacitor is likely cancelling part of that inductive reactance).

I know can you imagine if they'd shipped a product with fully functioning mppt Tracking 🤣 would be unheard of 

 

Right I'm just spit balling here so correct me if I'm wrong. I think that possibly looking at the "minimum voltage" and adjusting that could be the wrong way to look at fixing this. After watching this all morning I have found that it will stay at 115v-120v until exactly the point it hits 3a after this it seems to want to keep 3a or more so increases the voltage SLOWLY until it sits at 3a.

 

This behaviour I think would be fine on newer panels with a short circuit of 10a+. But with my older panels with a short circuit of around 7a in ideal conditions could very quickly drop below 3a with indirect sunlight....I suspect.

So potentially lowering the amperage at which it "releases" to something older panels can easily output shorted. Any thoughts on this? I could be way off.

It's finally dawned on me what the whole comparison with half an amp and racing towards minimum MPPT voltage is for. In the morning before PV gets going, PV power is so weak that you really have to go right down to minimum voltage to get any current flowing. If you happen to be just above Voc, for example, you get zero current, and going down five volts (if still above Voc) won't increase the current. So the algorithm effectively thinks "no point going any lower, it didn't improve power flow, let's try increasing the voltage instead". So you might get stuck at high voltage, tossed around by noise in the measurements, when going down to low voltages would get enough current flowing to power the electronics and get the process started. Though I think in factory configuration with the Solar plugged in with HFPW+, the logic and gate drivers would actually run off battery or utility, so this may not be as important a consideration.

Of course, the problem seems to be that they biased it way too heavily in the direction of low voltage, hence the "stuck at 90 V" behaviour.

Hi coloumb, are there.many cases of this inverter getting stuck at high voltage then? I seem to read that it's main low mppt voltages

I don't believe so, because they have biased it towards low PV voltages, as you said. Towards the end of the day it may lose a few potential Wh of energy, and probably at other times as well.

Yes, I intend to patch firmware version 57.60 with the equivalent of patched firmware version 656.05 for the Max II 10 kW models.

57.60 seems a long way from 57.01; is yours a relatively old model? What does your manufacturing month small sticker say?

I can't find such sticker with the month; was purchased around May 2022.

Is MPP Solar 11Kw model, with 2 PV streams, each with 5.5 Kw, tested, it works with 5.5 Kw on each PV stream. more details in photo

Question: why to patch with Max II 10KW? 

I saw that JDAVIES94 posted a version for 11KW, Axpert Max 1;also mine is with older chipset. if you will patch, what voltage you recommend? 175V or else?

Hi JDAVIES94 , thx for sharing the file!  I flashed it, the stock firmware 57.60 for Mpp Solar 11 kW (Axpert Max 1 11Kw)  works very well, old processor also: TMS320F2809 DSP

No, I meant I would apply the same patches as we have refined in the 10 kW model, starting from scratch with 11 kW firmware. Mixing firmwares is a big no-no. 🖐️

Sorry, I don't have a firmware update file for that series. So until one turns up, patching the firmware is impossible.

Is your machine a clone?

46.08 is compatible with 90.06 ...

Did you have first or second generation?( Removable  display = first , round integrated= second)

90.06 is only for first generation.

 

 

On my second inverter from Easun i did the same thing, flashed up to 90.06 without any problems.

 

If you could test to flash a 90.06 and when it runs I will make you a firmware with mppt fix and F90 deactivated.

After moaning that the firmware previously sent didn't fix the issue it just moved the voltage up to 115v they have now sent me another version 57.61. Please see attached. I will get back in a few days with how it responds

? The same patched or factory firmware suddenly changed behaviour?

Or you're saying you've installed the new firmware and it has a minimum PV voltage of 115 V now?

BTW, that's an 11 kW Axpert Max 1 '2809 firmware, and this is an 8 kW thread. In case others attempt to use it on their 8 kW machines.

Edit: It looks to me that the minimum MPPT voltage is still 90 V.

Edit 2: However, there is now an additional test for the solar voltage to be below 250 V before they force the PV voltage down. They may finally have addressed the problem!
