I believe he pumps it up for thermal syphon to work the heating source has to be below the cold tank of water. It really caught my attention. Really cool!

Yes that is how I heat my pool .If you buy a good quality it last for years .

Is that amazing pipe mesh made or purchased?

I also know a lot of guys wrap coils of black water pipe on roofs.

You buy them in completed panels and join them together  for the size of pool you have . The panels on the photo looks homemade or badly installed .

On the farm in Namibia we ran two pool heating panels on a low pressure hot water system for many many years and it worked just fine. Heated 200 liters of water a day, no problem.

It was eventually killed by limescale and replaced by an indirect system.

Once read about a guy who wanted to heat his pool for him and his wife.

So he went to the Co-Op and bought 1km of black pipe which he promptly installed in a huge "crop circle" on the ground - being a farm he had the space.

Any case, he started the pump and a while later his wife complained the pool was hotter than her bath! 
I think he removed +-800m of the pipe before she was happy. 🤣

That cheap black pipe from the Co-Op, that pipe can get you very very far to heat water as if you have a furnace.
