Kodak 7.2kW problem

I installed a Kodak 7.2kW inverter at the weekend, with 4.8kWh Narada battery and 16×365W Canadian Solar panels(8 panels per MPPT). The problem is that the inverter goes into bypass mode even when the sun is still high up in the sky and the load is low. Any explanation to this will be greatly appreciated. The current setting is SBU with point back to utility set at 51V to keep the battery for load shedding. I did try SUB but the inverter was doing the same thing so I had opted for SBU

51V...my concern is that it goes into bypass even when the panels are producing plenty of power

Hi there, I have a Kodak 7,2 KW inverter with 4 pylontech 3000C batteries. I have selected SBU in the setup. I have selected PYL in option 5 I’ve also confirmed the low voltage is 46V and the high voltage is54V. Although when you select PYL it automatically adjusts the other settings. When the inverter is supplied by solar everything works normally. As soon as the solar is no longer available  the inverter goes into bypass. Have checked the settings numerous times with the same result. Any suggestions?

My RCT max 8k does the same and stays in bypass. If i turn eskom off, it will draw more load from solar, ie force it to use solar first (and the batteries do not augument the load) in SBU mode. It seems to use more eskom than solar.

If I can jump in offside here..  

I have a question on this inverter; its not Hybrid, so can you cannot feedback into the gird, which is fine.  However, can the source be as PV first with grid to supplement if PV generation is not enough? Or is it either grid or PV?

For this model and most models that have a higher voltage (450 V max or 500 V max) solar charge controller, yes PV power and utility power can be blended when in line mode and SUB output source priority is used. I'm not familiar with these models, but I believe that when other output source priorities are used, the load is supplied by either utility only, or by battery/PV.

Menu option 13 is the back to battery voltage. Check this setting is at a value below what your current battery voltage is at. What this setting represents is the value set point at which the inverter will come out of bypass and go to SBU or blend between Solar and Battery and leave the Grid alone. 

The inverter logic will only get to blend between Solar and battery if your current voltage of the battery is above this value. Otherwise I'm afraid you will not get the inverter out of bypass. This is a hard set programmable value. 

I don't want it to use battery, except for load shedding or for power cuts at night. That's why I set it to SUB. SO why does the battery voltage have anything to do with it?

If you want SUB essentially the inverter will still mix power. And it will not touch the battery. Even in bypass the inverter will blend from PV. Leave it for a full day on USB and at the end of the day go and look at the PV logs. It will have blended.

Oky. Setting 1 must be in sbu mode. For those who wants a full battery when loadshedding start. Make setting 12. 51 and setting 13. 53   or 52  54. And here is the problem setting that solved everything after nearly replaced all my codac inverters. Setting 16 must be on ....SNU!!!!.  Some of my 5kw inverters must have little tweaks for it to work as intended. But let me know if this fix you problems. Im also playing around with firmware now . Remember setting 12 and 13 bust be 2v apart

1 - SBU

12 - 48 V

13 - 54 V

16 - CSO

 

seems to work fine for my needs at the moment. I might adjust setting 12 at some stage but need to get my solar assistant up and running first to see what is going on.

For some of us those setting does not work. When the sun shines the inverter does not go out of bypass mode and the battery wont charge with utility. It shows its charging with utility but my battery bms shows current 0amp. The moment you change setting 16 to snu my bms shows -10amps then its charging. When your battery reaches setting 13 voltage then only it will go out of bypass and use solar. Thats why i put my setting 12 to 51 and 13 to 53 during loadshedding. And when there is no loadshedding i will use 12 at 50 and 13 at 52.  I will not make it more than 2 volts bacause i dont want to charge my battery fully with utility.  So if you put setting 13 at 54 volts the inverter will go out of bypass mode if the battery is fully charged.. my inverter had your setting for almost a year and it was working perfectly. Then i suddenly started to get high utility bills thats when i noticed my 7200w inverter dont go out of bypass. I run a crypto farm so on this inverter i have a constant load of 4kw. Thats allot of power when the pannels dont do anything during the day. I only have 12kw batteries on this bacause the batteries must only be used when the power goes of during loadshedding. So i want to use setting 1 at sub. But it does not go out of bypass then no matter what settings you use. This inverter must go to the trash because it cant do what i want to do.

Let me get my solar assistant up and running, then I would like to please discuss with you more on my setup please. I’m also not 100% happy with this setup as I do notice some “strange” operation sometimes.

You seem to have a lot more experience than me already 😁

 

The technician im working with is learning the settings with me since im the only instalation he made that wanted this kind of setup. The supplier from capetown did phone someone in eu today about one of my 5kw inverters that run in paralel mode that wont connect after repairs was made on him. F81 error. But anyway we ask them for allot of assistance on personal needs. These kodac inverters is excellent for offgrid use. The ones on my home works perfect.

To give advice for all people who is not ofgrid and is connected to utility in south africa. During loadshedding times there is allot of inverters breaking from all brands even the most expesive ones because when eskom puts the power back online there is spikes and dips in the line

What i did was to put a relay at my mains. When power comes online the relay wil count 2min down before it will let power go through 

After that i have another relay that when there is a 5% spike or a 5% dip on voltage it wil also take utility ofline

Since i did this i had no more inverters just breaking down for no reason

I will gladly help someone ill keep an eye on this thread

Hi, I have 9 kodac 7.2kw inverters tied to a 3 phase system. With 10 x 5kw batteries.

1 the batteries don't charge.

2 the unit stays on bypass.

Please advise
