CoCT SSEG Help My installer claims to have submitted a physical application for SSEG (Small-Scale Embedded Generation) and dropped it off, but I have not received any updates or documentation. I also did not sign any authorization or paperwork for this process, so I find it unlikely that this application was made. So I had the first visit from the engineer today. He took lots of photos - including the municipal meter as the serial number of the meter is part of the registration. Wants copies of my COC and municipal account (I have these scanned, just haven't mailed them to him yet). Once he has all the paperwork I will get a letter to sign that appoints Pure Energy as my proxy for the registration process. Hi I recently got into a discussion on Neutral Earth bond on Sunsynk/Deye inverters and have found that many of the people I know dont have this installed / setup in their installations (although they have CoC's) I understand that this is a requirement to obtain a CoC nowdays, and wanted to ask those that know, how one would set this up / wire this on a Deye/Sunsynk 8kwh Inverter. I installed a solar PV system at home in 2022. 8 Panels, 8kW Sunsynk Inverter and Freedomwon 10/8 battery. Proper installer with CoC at the time. I have a Post paid (smart) meter that was installed around 2010. In the media, I have been hearing about registration of the solar system with City Power. Before I contact them and get fined or something like that….. Early information about COJ tariffs are that the flat fee on a pre-paid meter will increase to R250, and the cost per unit will go up about 13% For post paying users the flat fees will stay the same, but per unit costs will also increase - I think I read 16% No more free allocation of water. Currently households get 6kl per month free of charge. That's going, though the charge for that amount will be kept low. I know someone in Cape Town that installed a solar system in 2023. CoCT took 18 months to give the approval letter. The last sentence also states that "retrospective compliance" will be required if regulations change: Grid code, OHS, NRS, SANS. Is it just me or are these people delusional?

Hi all Sorry if this was asked in the forum (but not sure how to search the topic). I have a 5kw system with 12 panels, 5kw battery - system works flawlessy - i just wanted some clarification. So the panels is enough for load and charging battery, what happens is in the early evening, the battery would be sitting at 100% - great. Wife would start the cooking (airfryer, microwave) nanny would be cleaning up before she leaves (so vacuum and ironing) - panels powering all appliances. Spoke to a sparkie regarding a COC for my solar system and he said they cannot give a COC if the system is not registered. They're not allowed to do the DC side without registration. Any comments?

Hi I have a 3-phase supply from Eskom, and currently have the inverter on a single phase. This means that my load is not properly balanced with more load on the phase with the inverter. With the requirement to register as an SSEG becoming seemingly more important, will this be an issue? 1. Is SSEG registration needed? What are the consequences of not registering? 2. Would I need a 3-phase inverter (or one inverter per phase) or am I fine having only one phase backed-up?

I've been speaking to a installer and he has advised me that under COCT SSEG regulations you can have a maximum 12kw inverter if you have a standard 63A connection. What is the reason for this? I understand that 16kw will draw more than 63A at full go but can't inverters be programmed to have a max supply from the mains and draw the rest from the batteries or solar and balance them? I've read on the list forum that people has installed 2 smaller inverters to get past this, is this actually possible? TIA

With all this talk of having to register grid tied solar systems, I am half way through installing an off grid system to run along side the eskom utility. Basically I am installing a separate wiring run powering 5 sockets and the house lighting. As these two are kept completely separate I presume That the solar only falls under the SANS 10142 and doesn't have to be registered with eskom. Am I correct in my assumption.

Hey guys, I have an existing installation and I'm wanting to get it fully registered and approved as a SSEG Site with the City of Cape Town. I'm also wanting to get it approved for export to the grid and have the city replace my prepaid meter for a AMI Prepaid Meter. I see the application progress requires that a registered ECSA professional certify the installation. Also requires that I specify the SSEG Installer and Electrical Contractor. Does anyone have recommendations for someone who might tick all three of these boxes and be happy to review my existing installation and certify it for my SSEG application for a reasonable price?
