I updated the factory firmware from the voltronic ftp page: MAX_8K_28066_9204.7Z
After that, based on your description, I renamed dsp.hex vp5k and flashed it. My inverter has been a brick ever since. I tried everything, removed the display, but it didn't work! Can you give me some advice? Sorry for my English google translator! I'm Hungarian. Please help!

The 28066 firmware with ArenaINV flasher actually work for some EASun SMW 8k user, you must use VP5K file provided in the archive and don't copy any dsp.hex from another. In any case It's highly recommended to start trying standard firmware with dsp.hex and ReflashX tool first since it has been proved that Flash doesn't start if inverter need the 28066 version.

to try recover unless you need to use this 

But I think It will only work for 91.04.

Arrhg! So sorry. I no longer believe that the renaming is needed, and should never be done. Except, as in your case, to undo a previous renaming. I've now crossed out that suggestion, so that others won't fall into the same trap.

It looks like all the EASun MAX 8kW models are using the C28066 reflash command, and all the other models, for reasons that I cannot fathom, are still using the old reflash command (BDR96). By using Georg's patch, which is based on 90.06, you now have firmware expecting the BDR96 command.

To fix this, you'll have to do the reversed renaming. So you'll need a copy of a folder with the old reflash tool, say with factory firmware 90.06. Delete or rename dsp.hex. Copy over a C28066 firmware's VP5K.INV file, such as from factory firmware 90.04 or its patched version in a recent post, to this folder. Rename or copy VP5K.inv to dsp.hex. Run the old reflash tool in that folder, and it should replace the present incompatible firmware with C28066 firmware that your hardware and display can work with.

But there's an additional hassle, sorry. Because your display is expecting C28066 firmware, it won't talk to the existing firmware. Hence the bricking. But there should be two ways to get around this.

1) Temporarily remove the removable display, along with the short cable between the display and the inverter. Use a special adapter cable to connect from your USB to RS-232 and RS-232 to RJ-45 cable so that the PC can talk directly to the inverter, without the display at all. You will obviously be "running blind". But you should be able to get a reflash happening. After that is successful, put everything back to normal and it all should work. From then on, only use C28066 firmware updates.

2) Temporarily reflash your removable display with firmware that is intended for non-Easun MAX models, e.g. 12.21 from this forum's file section. Do the reflash, then it should be bricked again (!), but you should then be able to reflash your display with one that expects the C28066 command. Ah, I've just realised that we likely don't have access to this firmware. It may be 80.28, which I've just found and decoded the firmware version number for. But this is so untried that I don't recommend it.

With either of the two above ways of accessing the firmware directly, you may need to vary the timing between starting the inverter and pressing go on the reflash tool, to get the firmware reflash process to start. Fortunately, you only have to go through this ordeal once.

My apologies once more for the hassle.

Actually, that recovery file is for the opposite case, where you have a machine with the standard BDR96 reflash command but ended up with a firmware expecting the C28066 reflash command.

I'm really confused about Axpert MAX firmware versions. If it's working OK, I'd say keep it.

No it isn't factory version. Factory version was 12.11 I think. After some time a flashed 12.13. Two weeks ago I installed 12.21. Everything working without troubles. I don't know what is different between mentioned versions.

So you plug your USB to RS-232 adapter into the D9 female socket at left, and plug the RJ-45 into the inverter, where the removable display came from.

The easiest way to make this cable is probably to start with a spare ethernet LAN cable; verify that the colours of the pins are as on the right. Cut off one end, and solder the three wires to the back if the D9 socket. You could perhaps do without the switch; either use bare wires that twist together to turn the inverter on, or just leave the brown and brown/white wires connected. Disconnect the RJ-45 to turn the inverter off. Any sort of switch will do: toggle as above, rocker, push-on/push-off button, etc, but not a momentary push-button. You don't want the inverter to switch off part way through a reflash.

Edit: NOTE: I possibly got the RXD and TXD wires swapped. Sorry, I don't have access to my prototype cable at present to check. If you have a multimeter, you can check before wiring; senders will have about -6 V on them with respect to the GND wire; receivers will have very little voltage. Don't connect the two senders together; each sender should connect to the other's receiver. I'm 90% sure that the diagram above is correct, and I'm pretty sure that no great harm will come if the wires are swapped (but it obviously won't work). You can test the cable by sending random commands from a terminal program running at 2400 bps. Send any junk followed by a carriage return (enter key); it should respond with "(NAKss" without the quotes.

Did you try swapping pins 2 and 3 on the serial port end?

I notice that you are using COM1, the default. I presume you know about finding the right COM port as you have flashed before, but maybe that was with the Arena flash tool, which might be a little different. Use device manager to make sure that you have the right port. Remember also that this old reflash tool only copes with COM1-COM9. If your USB to serial adapter happens to be on say COM11, you'll have to try another USB port, or change the COM port assignment to say COM9.

If after all that it still doesn't talk, please post a picture of your cable and where you are plugging it in.

Finally, it's slightly possible that the MAX models have a different pinout compared to the Axpert King I worked on, but I'd be very surprised it that's the case.

One final thought; I suppose it's possible that the two firmwares are so fundamentally different that this one just crashes the processor, so no flash updating is possible. Again, I'd be very surprised. If that's the case, then you'll need a new control board from your reseller, with the correct MAX firmware on it. I hope you don't have to go to that extent; it will be really hard to get the exact right card from them.

I know someone else who would like to use this, but I need to know that 91.70 is compiled for the same DSP chip that 73.02 is, before I go to the considerable work of patching this firmware for the PV 90V problem. If it isn't compatible with your hardware, then that's their problem and they have to fix it for you. But hopefully they know what they are doing (!) and have supplied you with the right one. Or maybe 11 kW models, being more recent than the 8 kW models, all come with the new DSP chip, and there is no compatibility problem with DSP firmware.

So if you try that firmware and report what happens, I'm happy to attempt the patch, which I've already done successfully to another Arena flasher based firmware (91.04 → 91.05).
