This is great as if for example the washing machine is on a circuit that is essential, then you can make a box thing or I think even use the mini inside the socket to switch just that machine off automatically when loadshedinf hits. This then stops the washing machine running on inverter batteries. Can I get this to work if my inverter doesn't run through my DB? I have a trolley inverter that I use and manually plug in devices that I want on backup. The use-case for the load shedder is I need to switch my water from borehole to municipal when the power goes out, and back again when grid power is restored. The smart devices to manipulate the water valves are 12v and will be powered from my gate motor battery (i.e. always on).

Basically use the AC cable (AC power) at the gate motor to also power a contatcor in which could switch the valve by Eskom switching

How would the contactor send an instruction to the smart valves?

But the smart load shedder can just switch on and off via a wireless signal. But if the power to the valves comes from the gate motor, then you can use the Eskom power at the gate motor to then control a contactor which would switch the 12V DC valve cable on and off, bascially then a wired switch. The valve cable would be wired through the NO or NC terminals and then the A1 and A2 (coil) is then powered by the 230V Eskom supply. So when Eskom on the valve off and and when Eskom off then the valve on. (or what ever variation you require)

In the last 2 days, I applied for a solar installation which will obviously come with an inverter wired into the DB and will thus make the Loadshedder setup infinitely more valuable. If it hadn't been for Stage 6, I would likely have ended up using a slight variation to the solution you suggested. Edited January 12, 20233 yr by hellfire edit
January 13, 20233 yr Hi 1. "All appliances that need to be controlled require smart devices like Sonoff Basic or any other Sonoff products." Can other ewelink devices (that arent sonoff) be controlled as well? Eg some high current equipment using one of those 100a smart switches, will this also be able to be controlled by the Sonoff "Load shedder" ,or is it only sonoff devices? 2. Will all the devices need to be on one ewelink account to be able to get them to work together and switch off/ on based on loadshedding, is it possible to link other devices on a different account, eg for that of a tenant in the same building.
January 13, 20233 yr 3. How long will the devices take to switch off when there is loadshedding? Supposing the Internet is fibre, no issues there, from the device itself + sonoff servers what sort of delay period are we looking at? Edited January 14, 20233 yr by abd7

Hi, How are you? 1. Its a lot easier if they are all on Sonoff devices. All the Scene's would be in eWelink but you can also go via IFTTT to Tuya smart life. It just requires an eWelink VIP license. R169 per year. 2. They need to be in the same account as scenes dont work cross accounts and you would need to use IFTTT again. Hope that helps. Aleks

Hi, The triggers are really fast with in the same account, it takes around a second. Cross accounts via IFTTT around 8 seconds and I have also seen it take as long as 18 seconds. Aleks

Hi, Yes you could defiantly use the load shedder in a waterproof box by you trolley inverter and it will trigger the scene to send the signal down to the Gate controller that is power by the gate motor battery. They would both be in eWeLink so it’s nice and quick to create scenes. As long as you have WiFi and Internet at both points no problem. Aleks

I do belive that all the newer devices display.

January 28, 20233 yr Have one of these guys. But now seems to have given the ghost. Still measures draw but doesn't turn on and off. Gona replace, was thinking of a cbi asc? This is for the whole house. I'm getting the hang of HA so display on ewelink home page isn't really important. Any better options/recommendations?

As the unit is only rated for 40A full time use I wonder if you just want to check if the relay contacts did not weld in a close position and that being the reason why it is still measuring power but the relay cannot switch the power of. A relay could be a cheap repair. Indicate your region and some member might help if you rather get someone to look at it.
March 12, 20233 yr Purchased a SONOFF Load Shedding Detector Kit from GeeWiz - https://www.geewiz.co.za/sonoff-pro...-shedding-detector-kit-with-instructions.html Image and instructions for install are for a Sonoff Mini R2 with S1 and S2 connections. Actual product that was delivered had a Sonoff Mini R3 in the box with two L and two N connections. No actual switch connections. Electrician is here trying to install it and is a little concerned that they are not the same devices and are missing contacts. Anyone install one and run into similar issues?

AFAIK you only have contacts for the live. The neutrals are connected externally except for the power supply to the unit. Just Google the sonoff model and you will find a detail connection diagram. S1&2 are momentary switches for using on blinds etc. You don't have to use them if you just want to use the timer. Use the APP for switching manually. On the unit with 2 L and 2 N they are input and output points. That easy. Edited March 12, 20233 yr by Scorp007
March 14, 20233 yr I need to switch off two geysers that are in different buildings, all feed via a generator during loadshedding. Wifi is available throughout the property. Can this be done with one Loadshedder relay and two wifi switches?

March 14, 20233 yr Thanks, I'll have a look into that. So the two smart switches would be linked to the relay using the ewelink app?
