Sunsynk 5kW - Settings Not Sticking - Assistance/Advice Please

Featured Replies

Good Day,

Around the beginning of March we had a Sunsynk 5kW Hybrid inverter installed with a 5K Hubble battery.

For some reason, whatever system SOC settings I enter, after about 20 minutes (sometimes less/sometimes more), the first 2 time slots revert to 20% and "gen" is ticked, along with a bunch of arbitrary time slots that make no sense. I am pressing "OK", and "Lock Out All Changes" is unticked.

The inverter has been back to Segen Solar in CT, and also spent 3 weeks at Sunsynk (both claim everything to be 100%), yet the issue persists.

My system has only worked for around 5 days out of the last 6 - 8 weeks, and is driving me insane.

Any clues or ideas as to where I am going wrong, or what I may be missing ? Could it be the battery ?

All and any help would be greatly appreciated

Have you tried a factory reset ? Your system mode times should be set to the default so that the first time starts at 1am and the last timeslot ends at like 9-11pm+-,they have to follow each other. I have seen issues if they dont follow each other like this. Most of your settings look pretty good. After a factory reset try changing just the SOC parameters in the work mode and see if it will save that .

Thanks @Nexuss, will give that a try and monitor for a bit

Those system mode time slots are way out... Set them in order, starting at 0:00 or 1am like posted above.

Thanks @abd7, that's exactly the issue, those settings are nothing like what I enter. Will try the advice from @Nexuss

If you have a Generator, then Gen Signal may be useful.
Also if you have a N/E bond, then "Signal Island Mode" should be enabled for the ATS.
See https://www.hubblelithium.co.za/sunsynk for Hubble settings.

As suggested above, reset the Start Time as per factory setting

Also start with a simple program and test, and work from there, something like this:

The SoC/V tick means charge battery to 50% SoC (Will charge to 100% if Solar Available)
No Tick means discharge battery to 50% SoC [ I don't use this ]

It sounds to me like the logger could be being accessed and settings are being changed by someone else. Is it a Sunsynk or Solarman logger?

Get your installer to make sure that the logger is associated with the correct plant, he can do this by requesting that the logger --> inverter bond be undone, then adopt it again.

If a Sunsynk logger, make sure that the org structure for individuals accessing the logger is secured, and change passwords.

Thank you very much for the help @system32, really appreciate it

Amended the battery settings as suggested above, and these appear to have stuck in place - again, thank you

The system settings are another story altogether. Also tried your suggestions, but 5 minutes later odd times appear, and the first 2 slots are reset at 20% with both grid and gen ticked (I don't own a generator), and I have no idea where these settings come from.

Spoke to David Drake at Sunsynk, and he seems to be of the opinion that the issue lay with the Hubble BMS. This kind of makes some sense, but I'm new to this and still trying to get my head around everything.

Thank you. Will have him check (assuming I can get hold of him)

@Marc FH can try this for a test - disconnect the logger from the inverter (remove it completely from the slot) and see if the settings changes stick after this.

Just a follow up.

As David Drake of Sunsynk suggested that the battery is possibly at issue, I logged a ticket with @HubbleLithium, along with the issue, unit information and some photos of the inverter battery settings.

Not 5 minutes had passed when I received a phone call from Hubble, and spoke to a guy named Jason. We went through the battery settings and updated where necessary, all the while explaining to me the hows and whys.

Not 3 minutes later he called again, having spotted another change that I had to make.

Apparently battery looks to be in tip-top condition, so NOT related to BMS as D Drake implied.

Just wanted to thank @HubbleLithium for the fast and professional service. Really very impressed.

Unfortunately, I still have the same inverter issue and trying to get any communication going with either Sunsynk or @SEGEN SOLAR CT is like getting blood from a stone. My messages are being read, but not one reply. Apparently Segen will deal only with my installation technician, but he's getting nothing from them either.

@Marc FH did you test with the logger disconnected or not?

Afraid we have yet to try your suggestion @PowerUser.

The logger does see my equipment, along with usage and graphs etc.

Is it a simple case of just unscrew and unplug, or will I need to shut-down inverter completely to remove ?

As far as I know, you can just unscrew and unplug. You won't loose much stats for few minutes test.

Not worried about the stats for now, more concerned about the warranty :)

Will need to chat with the installer first and get confirmation, just to be on the safe side

Follow up :

@PowerUser We removed the dongle and tested. Issue remained (even uninstalled the app in case rogue settings were causing the issue)

Managed to swap out the inverter with another, and I still have the same problem. First 2 SOC settings revert to 20%, all time slots change, and gen charge is ticked. So I guess it isn't the inverter.

Going back through old messages with the installer and I noticed that this issue first came up after the geyser was moved to non-essential, and the CT coil was fitted.

Am now completely confused and at a loss, installer likewise

Thanks for the feedback. This sounds like very bizarre issue. Wonder, if it’s not a bug with the firmware. Please keep us updated.

@PowerUserIt's the dongle!! You called it.

We obviously didn't test for long enough. As our installer was AWOL, we manged to get another company to take a look. Heinrich Visagie from @RVSolar came to take a look (thanks @Powerforum Store for the recommendation) and mentioned he had a similar issue on another installation. Unplugged the dongle, waited 20 mins, set new settings and all good. 24 hrs later, settings still in place (I even tested by changing one of the percentages). Everything still is as set. 3 months of stress, pain and headaches sorted in 45mins

So no stats or remote access for now. Will need to organize a new dongle in due course.

Thanks everyone for all the advice and suggestions. Really appreciated your input
