Goodwe 4.6 install.

Featured Replies

I started out with a SOLIS 4.0kW Grid tie system some time ago. Had the opportunity to upgrade to a hybrid and desided that a Goodwe will suit my needs just fine.

The system consists of:

Goodwe 4.6kW inverter.

16x275 JA panels-(Can upgrade to 20)

1x Pylon 3.5kW battery-( Will upgrade to 2 before year end, and then 3 later on)

Final labeling needs to be done and then COC of the system and my house.

This a good general system for a typical 3/4 bedroom house with a daily consumption of around 20-30kW/h.

The settings on the Goodwe is a bit limited but the unit is a nice plug and play setup. I agree that Victron gives more options but for now this is my pride and joy.

I just have to mention that Escom has failed as I am sitting here typing this post. So yes, out lives continue as normal today thanks to solar.

Very nice! For interest sake, what size wire did you use from the pylon to the inverter? What is your experience with the JA panels?

Corne I used the standard 25mm factory Pylon cables. Only when you exceed 100A it is advisable to use a second cable for the battery bank to inverter/fuse holder.

I have only used Canadians, JA and C-Sun pannels so far and I have to say that I can not see the difference. The problem is that every installation differs in some way so you can never compare 2 exact systems. The short answer is that I will definitely use them again.

Hi can anybody tell me if the goodwe can be setup to use solar in the day and at night to drain the pylontech batteries first before switching to utility power?

some sales people say it will only drain the batteries if there's no solar or utility power?

If the Goodwe is set to MODE 1 it will function like above. Mine is set like that.

ah indeed it does look like one, thanks.

I do aircon installations as well so I find these brackets very handy and neat to mount Pylon batterys. The 4x16mm Rowlbolts has a lot of holding in them and make it ideal for a few Pylons.

Doesn't mode 1 feed into the grid also?

do you have a nice way to secure the battery to the bracket?

Just set your backfeed function to "0" using advanced settings and there is very little backfeed. Mostly less than 50W

I use the rubber "washers" supplied with the brackets between the battery and the brackets. I am more than happy with the stability of this setup.

Will it do anything to my prepaid meter?

That I can not tell you for sure. Some prepaid meters has no problems and others do have. I know that Conloc(not sure about spelling) is full of nonsense when it comes to backfeed. What meter do you have?? Maybe someone here can advice you on that.

My prepaid meter is a Talexus Actarus.

Biocide,  I am glad you asked the question. The Goodwe manual is sadly lacking on decent descriptions on the various modes...

Friend used the same brackets, spaced them a bit further apart and hang two batteries between the brackets.

I used a R20 Gelmar shelf bracket to hang two batteries flat against the wall next to each other.  Did not want the batteries protruding into my garage space.

Do you have a pic of your arrangement?

very nice.

i am assuming it doesn't matter that it hangs this way even though the manual shows it orientated sideways when stacked in 2's? i mean the cells are sealed and their orientation doesn't matter?

It is just a two compartment trunking to split DC and AC.  I will try to find out the brand and where they bought it.

Thanks, that is exactly the reason I am asking. I keeps AC and DC apart and it also looks great!!

The only issue I have had with the "face up" orientation of my pylontech is that the face is picking up a lot of dust. My garage isn't as dust proof as I would like ... May change the orientation to put the "face" on the side just to keep it cleaner.
