Can you schedule to charge the batteries to different levels based on different days in the week?

Search around - the issue has been discussed many times. Have you done the Earth - Neutral bond?

This looks very similar to QUCC BMS. Is it a rebranded QUCC maybe?

Not sure which ones are silent. You will have to look at the datasheet and see the noise levels specified there and if it’s fanless design.

Lots of people buy cells and BMS. Search around the forum. There are many threads with self build batteries from cells. I was also researching that option but at the end of the, because of availability issues, I decided to go for a commercial battery.

What inverter are you going to use? Does it support charging LFP batteries? The owner of that company is on the forum @Bain Viljoen

You need completely silent inverter. Should be fanless model - check the specs in the datasheet for whatever power you think, you will require (for your needs maybe 2kW will be more than enough). It would be best, if it supports LIFEPO4 batteries, so buy 2 x 12V LIFEPO4 and a trolley enclosure for them and put the inverter on top.

The main benefit of SunSynk is not the ability to export. Not sure why so many people get it wrong.

The AMPs on the DC should be specified to allow a typical 1m or 5m overpower, which is supported my most inverters. In this case, the fuse should be 142A x 1.25 = 159.04A. 160A fuse. Same specification for the cable thickness but usually I like to overspec the cables by at least one size higher.

That points to incorrect or no Neutral-Earth bonding. Now sure what are the exact requirements for such bonding on Victron systems.

As far as I know, that is incorrect! The inverter max discharge current rating should be used for the the fuses and cable. The discharge rating is often higher than the charge rating. However, if the max rating is installed correctly according to the inverter but at the same time, the batteries cannot match that and there is no BMS to protect them, then you still have the risk of damaging the batteries, when the inverter tries to pull more than they can handle.

Which RCD is that? On the main DB before the inverters or on the load side of the inverters. Are the inverters drawing power from the grid before the RCD?

One can always put a smaller element on the geyser - 1.5 or 2kW, instead or trying to match it with a bigger inverter. It’s much cheaper this way.

We need to see the exact specs of the inverter, in order to tell, if the fuses were wrong size or not. Do you know the exact model number of it? And what brand/model panels do you have and how are the strings arranged?

Get a SunSynk instead of the Growatt.

Can you post the sticker from the inverter to see the exact parameters and what batteries were you using with it?

You don’t need 40A relay for that. 10A is enough. You can order a Weidmuller relay from Voltex: https://www.voltex.co.za/product/weidmuller-d-series-220vac-10a-8-pin-relay-with-led-2-c0/ this model comes with or without LED - whatever suits you. Make sure, you order the base for it too. Running 2 inverters in parallel, I would assume, you only need to install one on the master. But rather confirm with someone familiar with parallel installations or ask SunSynk.

The problem with there devices, if they are not SABS approved, you won’t be able to get COC, if properly scrutinised and if you get one, might have a problem with the insurance, if an electrical fire happens.

Congratulation on the new system! Are you planning to wire and install everything yourself or get an installer?

You can also grind the a small recess on the bottom side of the tile for the cable to go inside the ceiling and the tile to still sit flush afterwards.

The MAX II 8 and 10kw are not bidirectional inverters, if I’m not mistaken. So, much less flexible installation options with them besides the others disadvantages. So, your suggestion is not even a mere disturbance against a very solid SunSynk product.

That’s only true, if you have everything on the load side of the inverter. However, with SunSynk you have more options and it’s not necessary to be connected like an off grid inverter.

Whatever you do, next time go with a SunSynk inverter. More flexible options 😊
