  1. Most sellers you would pay this price only for the cells. Not easy to buy a case and BMS and do it cheaper from what I have seen. R1528 per kWh is cheap.
  2. Energytechstore.co.za Their price do not seem to be expensive as mentioned.
  3. Without a fixed charge I will get through this month with less than R80 for grid use. Last month it was just over R100. I only have 3kWpv. Happy to see more production than use even on a bad PV day like today. It would make no financial sense to add more battery power even if I have a few hours of wasted PV.
  4. The 85W used by the inverter is spot on with self use. There are however times that my inverter on low load would only use down to 68W.
  5. As your battery voltage is far lower than say a lead acid the inverter will always report a much lower SOC.
  6. One of the common problems of these units are if rated at 3A they normally cannot provide it full time. Always better to get a 5A+ if you need 3A.
  7. Check your earth loop resistance from actual earth and the 4x2 box you are using as an earth. Alternatively measure from the switch points to a know good earth like in the DB
  8. This is a great panel for the low voltage Axpert type inverter (Voc below 145V) where 3 can be used in series and not just 2. Thanks for mentioning them @TaliaB
  9. Impossible to connect any wiring if the service panel is not opened . No seal to monitor for warranty. AFAIK all inverters you have to open something in order to connect wiring

Do I read that it's fine for Eskom to make their new laws against what is currently in place Does Chris Yelland not also agree that it's not the law to have to do what the supply authority insists on. This to me is not going to end well as more people that can will just go off the grid. Someone on a spiral of no return . Could it follow just a slower route that what SAPO went on years ago? Reducing your income stream as part of your business plan.
  11. You could try removing the other 2 but lithium batteries at different SOC do balance when charging. This seems like a bad cell as your active balancer should bring it higher if it would allow further charge.
  12. This is a good assessment of the system. Without detail the days with only 0-3kwh battery discharged while over 8kwh was charged are sure days where the grid could be reduced. The high grid use on selected day happens to be the days with low battery discharge. Deeper discharge is also the area I would look at. Grid can be set up to be used if battery drops too low in the last few hours before sunrise.

  14. The way I see the graph when no PV and load is on grid as well as grid charging there are a lot of downward spikes which I think is what @Ron G means when his 1 battery disconnects. It is strange as the 2nd battery is still available. Even more strange is that it happens when there is PV.
  15. If best solution is what you want make the positive the longer cable due to the extra voltage drop on the negative due to switching on BMS and also some have a fuse.

  17. The inverter cannot see if one cable is longer than the other. It only sees the voltage received. The normal quote is just to ensure one does not use a 1m positive and 5m negative as it is bad practise. There is already a higher volt drop on the negative due to the BMS even when cables are the same length.
  18. I would have no idea why. No they are not dead. Voltage appears normal during a low load test. I have it that you can mount prismatic cells in any direction. Please guys correct me if this is not the case. Size of each 140L 160H 24W.
  19. It looks like about 6 cells were venting. If we look at the pictures placed 3 days ago the 4th pic one can see the cells are mounted on their sides. There are 4 layers of 2 cells each to make up each bank of 24V with a series connection between the 2 banks. Thus each bank of 8 cells are laser welded as a unit. They vented against the side of the box and ran down to settle at the bottom.
  20. Although we are used to reading about bulges cells. Here is an example of cells where both banks of 8 lying flat in the battery box caused electrolyte to leak out. Now a question. What is the toxicity of this liquid to the touch or from unseen fumes?
  21. Drawing your battery down from the deep 70% at a load of over 2750W can perhaps explain the 8% wrong level. Not sure and I do see at times that a BMS can easily be 10-25% out until it is reset after a 100% charge. Not easy to say without taking some measurements. Your load from 05h05 to 06h40 was over 4125Wh. SOC dropped about 50% to 28%. Your battery at 2x5kWh you used about 40% of the storage capacity. So the total "error" is about 10%.
  22. I have not seen any battery with such a high minimum SOC. I still feel the 42% could be a total wrong SOC and the BMS will only correct itself after a 100% SOC but then looking at the graph the battery was at 100% so this rules out the above possibility.

  24. Interesting to see how the voltage is clipped (163V) once it hit 13A. Directly at the clipping point the current dropped from the 13A level to a much lower value.
  25. I have no knowledge of actually doing the connections or how to ensure a grid connection for the 6.4kW to work. If you have a reliable grid like I have then I would not worry about the times when there is no grid and new Solis is idle. May be our installers can guide you on the path forward.
