You are absolutely right @ebrsa , the axpert types can only be used with no connection to the Escom grid at all. Typical on farms where the Escom grid is totally removed and the farmer is totally dependent on PV, batteries and a gennie. No rules apply !

    Hi Marcel
Balancing your batteries is of utmost importance if you are using lead acid/ agm / gel batteries. We have discussed this quite a few times on the forum already. All these types of batteries requires balancing, irrespective of the brand name. A set of batteries not equalised / balanced, will have a shorter lifetime than those balanced, and you will almost always end up with a battery in the bank, collapsing before the other 3 partners. We all know that it is not viable to replace 1 battery in a bank of 4, hence the need for a battery balancer. I found that the HA-02 balancer is doing a fine job in doing this and hence the reason for my distributing it in South Africa. I have sold many of them to the forum members and has never had anyone complaining about them not doing the job.
Point is you have to balance the batteries, no matter what device you choose to do it with
Hope this is of some use to you.

    Hi Guys,
I have just completed the installation and just can't believe its done! Unfortunately it is already dark and I will thus only be able to switch on tomorrow morning. I can't wait and just had to share this with all you wonderful oaks out there. I have attached a few pictures to give you an idea of what I have done with the installation. I also have to thank everyone on the forum for all your assistance and support, all the good advice and just for being available at all times!!!! Without the forum I really don't think I would have been able to do it alone!  THANKS GUYS !!!!!!!!

    Hi Jason
I will PM you with a picture of the settings I use for the 5 x Pylontechs connected to 3 x 10kw Infini Inverters, later tonight.
I also use the same program as you are, but not a "home-brewed" version of it. I am currently running on V3.beta with the following added features:
    1. Victron energy meter integrated , ET112 for single phase and EM24 or ET340 for 3 phase.
No more calculations for grid and load, but actual figures and accurate feedback figures to the grid, if you wish to.
    2. Multiple inverters can now be used, on a single PI and all the figures will be combined on your dashboard.
    3. In a grid format, all the relevant figures will be available per inverter, if required.
I am very happy with what I have now, and must admit that I was very tempted to re-spray everything blue, but the cost of duco prevented me from doing it!🤣 lol
I would suggest to just hang in there, the new one will be available VERY SOON !!

    Cheers

Chris-R got a reaction from Arandoza in Dyness powerbox
    Hi @Heinds,
I know for a fact that the B4850 Dyness battery packs works with Axpert, Infini and Goodwe models. They have been thoroughly tested with these models over the last year and I was involved with some of the testing on the Axpert units. They are very similar to the Pylontech batteries, with most of the changes being in the BMS System. Unfortunately there is nobody in RSA bringing them into RSA in bulk quantities and are therefore a little more expensive than the pylontech's. As for the Dyness Powerbox - ... I cannot for sure say that it has been tested and has never seen it working myself. I have just send an email to Dyness and will let you know soonest.
    Regards

The Goodwe ES 4.6 is an amazing piece of equipment. I only know of one other person who ever had problems, and that being our own Mike. The unit was swopped out.
I have a customer where I installed a Goodwe about I year ago, blasted his sytem in Jan this year by connecting a generator to it. I send it to the supplier for repairs and .............it was just swopped out !!
I myself have 4 x 10KW infini's running in parallel for almost two years now and have not had any hassles at all. I am using ICC to monitor it and running Pylontechs, its really trouble free.
Only thing is ............................. I am really at a point to un-mount them and having them sprayed blue!
Thereafter I am sure they will even by running better, having the right colour !! ( Sorry boys 😜😆 )

    Hi All
As most of you are aware, the Imeon was replaced with an Infini 10kw about 8 months ago and still going STRONG!
I have just completed the 2nd phase of the installation with 2 more Infini's and a pylontech battery bank.
I have generated a total of 150 kw today !! It was partly rainy and only got the last array up and running by midday!
Tomorrow I will have a much better idea of what I will generate per day.
Attached a few pic's for those of you that are interested

Thanks for all the help of the members !!

Chris-R got a reaction from Chris Knipe in N/S vs. E/W PV orientation
    Hi Chris
My panels are facing east west, with a little bit turned more to south/east than east and fitted at a 23 degree angle.
Attached a graph of today's production and you can clearly see how early in the morning the west array is already active. Yes I have 2 separate MPPT's and it works very well.
The negative part is that during the winter months of June - August I lose more production than what I would have if it was facing North.
The ideal for me would be to have an east / west array as well as a portion of panels facing north .
I am currently installing a system at my offices and is doing exactly this, I will be able to see whether my theory is correct within the next 3 - 4 weeks.

Chris-R reacted to Jaco De Jongh in Sizing of Solar Fuses
Although the ISC and In isn't enough to blow the fuse, there is other Short circuit conditions that will create enough fault current to blow the fuse. We are focusing on Short circuit current and we think its only for a short between + and -
    What if:
Something in the Inverter happens and the PV+ touches the 220VAC.  A trunking cover damaging the insulation of the PV + as well as the insulation 220V live wire causing them to short out. While producing 4kw the insulation on the PV wires breaks down due to UV damage and touches the normal earth wire. Or a clever electrician thinks the Red and Black PV wires should be connected to 220VAC  I dont know exactly what will happen, but I can only imagine amps will be way in excess of 10 or 12 or even 15 amps.
I will rather keep my 2 fuses per string and try to protect against all possibility's than take the stance that the fuse has no real value in any case.

Penalty is that during winter ( May to end July) it actually generates less than half of that during dec to February.
Interesting fact is the time when the West panels get alive in the morning !!
