I am seeking some advice regarding my battery upgrade. I am planning to add a 5.32kW battery to my existing 5kW inverter, but I have been informed that Sunsynk has discontinued its batteries. As a result, I would need to purchase a 5.32kW Eenovance battery, which was originally the manufacturer behind Sunsynk batteries.

I understand that the Eenovance battery must be set as the master, while the existing Sunsynk (Sun-Batt) battery would function as the slave (see attached document). Additionally, firmware updates for the Eenovance battery would be managed via Wi-Fi, whereas the Sunsynk battery would require a manual PC connection for updates.

There are still some Sunsynk batteries available, but here’s the issue: they are approximately R8,000 more expensive than Eenovance batteries, plus an additional R3,600 installation fee. Given that Eenovance originally manufactured Sunsynk, is it really worth spending the extra R8,000 for a Sunsynk battery even though there might be a firmware update issue?

I was quoted the fee for installing an additional battery by the original installer and supplier, but on another forum, I was advised that the cost is too high. What would be a reasonable price?

I would greatly appreciate your opinion on whether Sunsynk or Eenovance would be the better long-term investment and an acceptable instalation fee for 1 battery.

The only problem I see is that one battery will be updated remotely, and the other will not. If the firmware version has to be the same on both batteries (I don't know that that's the case, but it's worth finding out) then there are problems ahead.

Installation fee... if the original installer did good work, stood by his work, was reliable then I personally would stick with him and pay the fee. You can always find somebody to do any given job cheaper, that doesn't mean the job will be done to the same standard.

Astronomer/computer boffin/author Cliff Stoll once drew a triangle on a board and labelled the corners "good", "cheap", "fast". He then said that the rule in business is you can only get one side of the triangle. So you can have it done good and fast, but it won't be cheap. You can have it done good and cheap, but it won't be fast. Etc.

We’ve just added an Eenovance battery to a system with two Sunsynk batteries. The new battery is the master. Apart from the battery looking different it is working 100%. The older Sunsynks had their BMS updated before the new battery was added.

I guess there would not be an issue with master or slave configuration if you have more than 1 Eenovance battery installed?

Yes they do. The local agents are Herholdts who cover them and covered the Sunsynk batteries - Sun-batt, which was EEnovance branded as Sunsynk.

I'm sure there is a way to add in a third EEnovance. Herholdts would be the best to ask.

Done the installation with Eenovance and Sunsynk Batteries. Works Well.

I did not need to update the battery firmware just needed to make the Eenovance battery the master battery. Refer attached photo (These were 10kwh batteries x 4 - 2 x sunsynk and 2 x Eenovance)

Just remember that in terms of the installation of an additional battery, it depends on how one is installing the battery. The most correct way is for each battery to be isolated using a fuse holders, then a bus bar to combine the batteries and then another fuse holder to the inverter. Also battery cable lengths need to be the same as well as the cables need to be the same gauge.

@Calli , the warranty would would be held by Voltex, or actually Sunsynk South Africa.

Since Herholdts parted ways with Sunsynk, they are referring you to contact Sunsynk for any assistance.

Not sure how long the special is good for, when i bought mine, they had 38 left in stock, which was about two weeks ago.

When my initial system (1 inverter and 1 battery) was commissioned this was logged with Sunsynk for the warranty (the 10 year extended along with noting each SN). I am planning to add the second to the same warranty form with Sunsynk customer service once I get it installed.

Looking at the Voltex site, they do have the typical wording about installation. Maybe best to check with them. I would think they, as the supplier will act as the link when a warranty claim is logged.

Interesting diverts for the fan heat, does it make a difference? Very neat install.

I need a second batt as with prices for COJ going up i want to store more of the sun. (I have 7kw of panels on the 5kw inverter)

so the existing batt has the ring type terminals and the ones at Voltex have the Push connectors.

so to add the slave batt the manual states the negative cable from the inverter to the slave batt.

so i will need new cables as I dont think the new batt comes with any.

can i just connect the new batt to the existing one or do i need to move the negative to the new batt?

these will be installed next to each other so no long cables needed..

I see voltex has cable for R1200 is that the going rate?

Good day, just wanted to share that I have also purchased the Eenovance 5.32 batteries from a shop called Cajees. It's located in Mpumalanga, but they have a next day delivery policy.

I bought 2x 5.32 Eenovance batteries, deemed the Sunsynk equivalent, for R27 898.20 VAT incl. (13 949.10 each). I asked for a 10% discount as I was buying two. Normal price is R15 499.

Paid for the batteries on Thursday 09 April 2026 and they were delivered the next day to Johannesburg, 10 April 2026, in the morning even.

Just a disclaimer, the terminals are a little different from the Sunsynk original batteries that I already have, please see picture below for the Eenovance terminals, but my installer said it should not an issue. Maybe the many experts and knowledgeable members can further advice.
