Trick however, over time, comes in when you keep on swapping inverters and want to keep on using the same software to be able to really compare data. But as I said, that takes time.
November 15, 20169 yr Really sorry to hear about your damage Jaco. The best lowtech possible solution I can come up with is to build a mini veranda above the inverter and other kit and make sure it is sealed against the wall. At least it will divert torrents of water ingress from your valuable equipment. Good luck with finding a suitable replacement.
November 15, 20169 yr Edward the water should never get to that wall if the first place. In the 10 years of living in this house this was the first time that this happened. The side of the wall / roof is painted with the "lap en pap" water sealant at the top of the roof. What happened in this case was the wind blew the water back up the tin roof and the water then dripped into the lip channel and the water then ran down the lip channel and started to drip out right into the inverter. But now I know this can happen. Will still see what I will end up doing when I get the report from Mustek about the Infini.
November 15, 20169 yr Google "Fronius Primo Hybrid". I know it exists. I know the installer who installed my father's system mentioned that he could get hold of them (that's in Namibia). I have no idea if and where you'd get one locally :-(

November 17, 20169 yr Just got the report back from Mustek. It will cost R44k to fix the Infini. Now waiting for a letter from them to state it is not economical to repair it. So it looks like the Goodwe is the way to go.

The spares and labor shouldn't be THAT much. Mustek probably wants to replace the whole PCB instead of repairing it.

I would have repaired it and made sure it doesn't get rain again. And, yes, I read what you said about the water. But still. It's an expensive, and good inverter, well worth repairing IMO

Mustek is a computer peripherals supplier, which like Rectron, got onto the "load shedding" band wagon and started importing and distributing Voltronic inverters. Like in the case of PCs, nothing on a pc board is repaired if it becomes faulty, the whole board is simply replaced.
November 18, 20169 yr You would think that to retain you as a customer, they would offer you a new unit at a discount. Not give a ridiculous quote so you go and buy new from someone else.

November 22, 20169 yr Finally taking the time to look over that Primo Hybrid spec sheet. DC input voltage is 80-600V. Looks like they are doing the same thing the Solar Edge guys did: Use a GTI (with minor adaptations) and wire a lithium battery to the input instead of PV. Wire PV in "parallel" to the battery. It will probably work with Lead Acid, but you'll need a 96V bank in all probability.
