Good day All.

I am starting this thread to document my install from start to finish.

Some background on the install. I purchased an 8KW Synsynk with 2 5.5 AM2 Hubble's. In addition, 10 JA Solar 540w panels will be mounted once they arrive. I am linking to system to Home-Assistant with Solar-Assistant on a Raspberry Pi. 

 

The installer is starting the install this morning, so here are some pics from before. I will be posting updates as the install progress.

Same setup going in for me just the 5kw not 8kw Sunsynk.

Update:

After 6 hours, this is where we are at. The power cables to and from the DB is already in the ceiling as well. Invertor will be properly attached to the wall this morning

DB Board is a Gewiss from ACDC. I could not find a Hager unit locally. All MCB's are Gewiss as well.

The board next to the inverter is the PV combiner. That is from PowerForum Store

A note ... if you buy a gewiss board from AC/DC ... dont use the one which looks pretty with  grey smokey cover which you push to release (GW400x range  ... IP 40 rated)  ... the clip is absolute crap ... replaced it out the box at AC/DC then again after installation and now we stuck with a broken clip (too much hassle to remove the entire DB ... becuase they will not replace just the faulty clip) ... the one in this picture should work better ... (GW401X range ... IP 655 rated). 

The OBO trunking is the best looking and most practical to work with ... expensive but cheaper on labour to install ( just dont use a nail gun to install it  ) 

The components like the plugs ... isolators and network jacks look neat when installed

I made my requirements clear to the electrician from the start. No 45 mitre joints!

That trunking is exactly what i am after. What do you call it and where does one source it from ? BTW looking great so far on the install.

I use the off cuts of the obo trunking to make plug extenders ... it looks neat and you can fit as many 2 pin socket as you need ... I use it for my machine battery charge station ( 8 machine chargers for makita ... Hilti ... Bosch ... victron ) and I have one in my office for for all the other little chargers for the go pro ... garmin .... ipad ... 18650 chargers etc ... keeps neat and tidy.

I need 6 x 2 pin and 7 x 15 amp plugs for all the gadgets ... it looks an absolute mess with double adaptors and extender plugs ... 1 strip of double compartment obo and plugs will tidy it up nicely. 

Ok, time for an update. I am now officially no longer affected by load shedding! Panels are hopefully arriving this week, which means I can recoup some of my investment at least. 

 

 

New DB installed and labelled. Still required is sealing around the trunking. Existing loads are fed from the cavity where the old DB was. Inverter supply and feed located in trunking, with spare trunking for future use. All the existing conduits feeding the old DB was full.

 

Trunking for PV still needs to be installed, and some glands and sprag(spelling?) is still required. Some additional cleaning be done as well. I need to tidy up my Raspberry power supply wiring and RIOT unit still needs to be installed.

 

So far I am extremely happy with the workmanship and attention to detail. Hendrik (the electrician doing the install) really ensures that everything is done correctly, and aesthetically pleasing.

Why do you need a PV combiner, the Sunsync has 4 string inputs into the 2 tracker MMPT?

Was the new db board fitted over where the old db board used to be? Would love to see inside the db board with the covers off.

Indeed, it was fitted over the old DB. Will take a photo the next time Hendrik is here. Still need to replace some plugs MCB with 25A breakers.

Fuse protection, Lightning protection and isolation of the DC strings. This is a legal requirement.

Does the obo trunking have two compartments inside to separate AC and DC wires?

Yes they have a divider (sold as an accessory ) which can be fitted to separates the wires for both the single and double compartment trunking.
