Are you asking this question because the picture shows a single compartment obo trunking and it looks like the cabling is all mixed in the same trunking ? 

I am sure the electrician doing the installation would have taken that into consideration ... considering a COC will be required  ... and the fact that the installation is visible on a public forum ... which could negatively impact a claim if there was a problem and it wasnt done right ? 

One of the reasons I am hesitant to post pics on public forums ... people scrutinise every single little detail ;) 

I deal with insurance assessors and boy do they make sure they do their homework ... I have learnt to only share facts ... I dont chit chat with them .. .good day and answer the question asked with as little detail as possible ... especially when the claims are higher than R100k.

OK, so its not a parallel string combiner, since your PV strings are in serial, not like the Victrons parallel panel strings, but a fuse, isolator etc. box?

At first I thought it was single compartment, but it makes sense with the devider that still need to go in. I will give it a try as it does looks neat.

Ok, time for an update.

10 x JA 540W panels are installed! Pictured is the west side. East is the same setup. Requested a quote on some additional panels, so the installer did not trim the rails on the left hand side.

Most of the wiring is complete. The sprag was incorrectly supplied at 32mm and not 20mm, so the sprag needs to be changed in the trunking and run all the way to the invertor. I have ordered an additional battery for commissioning in the new year. The isolators will move the above the trunking to make space for the third battery.

Will post my thoughts on the whole solar experience in a separate thread.

This is a very neat install. Consider getting the Sunsynk data logger to complete the installation. It beats the solarmann setup by far and allows one to adjust your settings when needed.

Why do you need breakers to isolate a string, why not just pull the fuses? Would that still be legal?

Completely legal. Whether they are the fuses or breakers, they should never be disconnected under load as it could damage the inverter.

What about the NoArc circuit breakers? Aren’t those legal and able to operate under load?

When switching the inverter ON, the PV breakers are the last thing to go ON, and when switching the inverter OFF, the PV breakers, are also the last thing to go OFF.

According to page 53 in the manual, but I bet a lot of installers, and users don't bother when "testing" panels in the string. 🤔

It has nothing to do with the ability or functionality of the breaker. 

It's not good for the inverter.

Seems like we have different documents.

Your document is different from the instructions in the SunSynk installer manual. Why would be such discrepancies in different SunSynk documentation?

Maybe check that with Sunsynk. It's says switch on the PV isolator. It certainly doesn't say turn on a breaker or fuse under load.

My point was not about where to switch it off but about the discrepancies in 2 different SunSynk documents. I don't know where yours comes from but the sequence for switching off and on is different in both documents. However, based on what you said earlier about not operating the the PV disconnectors under load, the sequence in the Installer manual makes more sense, than the document you quoted on. In the installer manual, the inverter is switched off first and then the PV isolator.

The manual also says battery "breaker". Do you have a battery breaker or a fuse in your setup. How many installations are done with only battery fuses? It's totally fine to just use a battery fuse yet the same logic isn't applied to PV fuses. My point here is that everyone interprets the manual differently. 

What you aren't understanding is that even if the inverter switch is in the on position, it doesn't mean that the inverter will be providing power to any of the loads. 

That only happens when the breaker to the loads is switched on after the normal light on the inverter is on. 

An installer who knows what he is doing will know that you never switch on PV breakers when the inverter is in operation. Similarly you don't pull battery fuses when the inverter is operating.
