Hi all.

Sorry only saw this intro thread after I gatecrashed someone elses thread. My apologies.

I'm a bit of a muddler. I am technically retarded, but quite creative. Expect a lot of stupid questions.

I live and work in Northcliff, Jhb.

Welcome to the forum,

I can promise you that you will find helpful and friendly people here.

Just a word of caution - do not ask about the difference between Victron and Axpert - this is a more dangerous question than Ford vs Toyota on the bakkie scene...   ;-))

Best regards,

Herman

I like the analogy though.

There are people who buy the Ranger because they like the brand.

Then there are people who buy the Ranger because it's a good car and it's cheaper than the Hilux.

Then there are people who'd rather buy a second hand Hilux (that's where I fit in).

Then there are people who buy a new Hilux.

And finally there are people who'd rather push their Defender than be seen in either of those.

My my work colleague fits firmly in this category, every now and then I hear him coming to work (He parks just outside my office) and I can hear him leaving it to idle for 3 mins before he shuts it down, apparently after 3 fixing attempts its still over heating, I just think its a proper POS, but he loves it to bits and will defend his purchase with all his heart.

Meanwhile, while his 2006 Defender is giving him endless issues we still have 94'-99' Toyota Hilux's going strong here on the farm.

I know so many jokes.

It remains the best 4x4 for Africa. Parts are available everywhere. Usually you just have to walk a short distance into the veld to the nearest broken one which will often have the spare part you need.

90% of them are still on the road (the others have reached their destination).

What do you do if you're out in your defender and you run into a swarm of bees? Stop pushing and hide in the car! (Though that might not help, it's not exactly "air tight").

Why does a Discovery have a rear window demister? To warm your hands on cold winter mornings.

I have a wind-up paperweight in the form of a Land Rover Defender. When you wind it up it leaks oil for a minute.
