Solarman portal also hanging again this morning

What network is the data logger connected to and what network are you using to access the Solarman app?

My home network is vodacom fibre and I'm accessing Solarman now from my cellphone on Telkom mobile. I'm not home right now and not experiencing any problems with the app updating.

Yeah, it started working again just before your post. Every morning from around 9am to 10:30 the servers are down. Its not just mine, but a friend of mine in villiersdorp also. Different accounts and providers.

@HeindsI have one site where it is feeding into the grid yes.

I'm interested to know if the sunsynk has a feature where is disables feedback when AC power is no longer available. (Like in the case of loadshedding). I would assume that this feature would be required going forward. Utility companies might assume that no power if available on a neighborhood grid during loadshedding and could then get a nasty surprise. I know some other inverters have this feature.

@HeindsMost inverters have that function. They have to sync with the grid voltage and frequency first before they can start feeding back. Once the grid disappears the inverter goes into off-grid mode and stops exporting.

Actually no one has the feature to feed back when the grid is unavailable. It needs the grid to connect/sync to, to be able to feed back. there is a very small chance that multiple inverters that was feeding back at the time of the failure might keep each other alive (Creating an Island), but those chances are extremely slim. The better/approved inverters has a way of trying to push the grid sinewave out of phase every few seconds, so in the case of a failure it will be able to push the sinewave out of " Shape", sense it and switch off. If the Sunsynk is on the list of approved inverters, then it will have the same method of detection a grid failure and in that case it would be save to use.

@Jaco de Jongh

The Sunsynk 8kw inverted is on the CoCT list of approved inverters so I expect it to detect that the grid is down and not attempt to feed back.

Haven't yet had load shedding since the installation.

@Johann1982

Just had my electrician in and moved all the loads on the aux to the normal load output of the inverter.

I also changed the settings of the aux to micro inverter input.

The animation on the Solarman app has changed to show this even though there is no micro inverter connected yet.

@Achmatwhat app are you using? Anyways, I think I have figured out the Aux load dropping. It has to do with the grid connection. i think for some reason it disconnects from the grid, just for a split second, but then it tells the Aux to switch off for 5 seconds just as it would when you trip the mains. They have to change the firmware so that only the SOC can shut the Aux load off. Will get them to change it this week and test. Had my mains off since 11am an aux stayed on without problem. Will probably be able to push it till 11pm before switching back to mains.

@AchmatI wanted to ask, whats the reason for the micro inverters?

I need about 40kWh per day. My current setup will only generate on average 30kWh. My panels are mounted almost flat as it was the only option I had.

I can then add another 4kW of panels with micro inverters and connect it to the aux which will give me enough daily solar production to cover all of my daily consumption.

Batteries for bad solar days would be the only thing holding me back from going completely off-grid then.

@AchmatInteresting, didn't even know this inverter could do that. My other client runs 22x 355W canadian solar panels, facing north at a 30% angle. Average production is 45kWh per day. That was last week.

I currently have 19 x 365W canadian panels connected facing north. I'm interested to add 5 more panels on my east facing roof (North facing is full) but my installer told me its not possible due to orientation. (Apparently panels connecting to the same MPPT needs to face in the same direction) Is a microinverter my only option here? The current panels are more than enough for my needs and my 9.6KVA batteries are fully charged by 12:30PM on a sunny day but i'm selling back to the grid so a small investment to add more panels will pay off in the short term with rebates. Thoughts?

@AchmatSo while I was waiting for tech support to reply to my emails I decided to change the frequencies on my grid input.. I gave it a 0.5hz higher and 0.5hz lower tollerance... So far my aux load hasn't dropped again.
