Hi All, Looking for advise and assistance please On the verge of taking the solar plunge Some background info on consumption. House uses about 24kws per day, we spend about R2000.00 per month on electricity, its prepaid and bought through a person that supplies the estate electricity, so a bit more expensive I think then municipal. One electric geyser and it uses a timer, not sure if this helps? I am looking for a 8kw system and probably 20kw batteries with 12 solar panels. I have been told the roof is a solar installers dream, as it’s north facing with enough space for installation. I have been quoted on a sunsync system with batte…

Hello Everyone Okay so my frustration has finally come to the point were I am now very seriously considering a grid-tied option. I need your advice on everything and I have quite a few questions. I have an energy monitor which I have installed this past weekend onto the DB board just to get an idea of my consumption but more importantly my peak use. So far I've seen a peak of about 3.2Kw but that excluding the stove or geyser. I average while at home about 500w and when not at home about 200w. So onto the system I have been considering. Your advice on the brands and suppliers will be greatly appreciated. For the Inverter I was looking…

Good Morning I have been on the forum for some time now and the current load shedding has caused me to look more seriously into having a system installed at my home. I have seen many topics on this but, some are dated and I was wondering if there has been any changes to this. I am trying to find out more information on the requirements for installing a PV system in Johannesburg (City Power) What documents are required for this and are these examples of these that one can use? Have the regulations for this changed at all with regards to the size of inverters than can be installed with a grid tired system?

Hi All Friend of mine wants to start his Solar installation. He has the following. 2 x 8KW Sunsynk inverters 5 x Hubble 5 kw batteries 20 x 555w JA solar panels How would you suggest he connects the system? I immediately thought that he might need another battery seeing the uneven amount. He also would like to link the inverters in parallel

Hi, I'm one of the 17% lucky ones in SA that does not get load-shedded, think the reason is because of a big hospital not to far away from us. Over the years we've made big gains to reduce our electricity usage with a solar geyser and new modern energy efficient appliances. However with the threat of stage 8 load shedding we decided its time to invest in a solar solution. Two weeks ago we signed with a well known solar installer (will not name now but later for full review) to install 3.6kW solar panels with a 5 kW hybrid inverter and a 5 kWh battery, so if everything goes well by end of June 2023 our system will be installed, getting permission from CoCT to sw…

Hi everyone, New to the group, but looking for assistance on getting a way out of load shedding. I am thinking of getting a few panels with a sunsynk 8kwh invertor + 5kwh battery. Will this setup be fine or I might damage or void my warranty due to lower battery kwh then invertor. Someone told me I must always get a higher battery then invertor like 10kwh. Is this true?

Hi I recently purchased a WatchPower wifi module for my mecer Axpert 5P64 inverter. After connecting the device and configuring it to my home wireless internet (both of which are working correctly), I tried to register on the WatchPower IOS app. It says registration successful, but when I try to log in again it says user name not found. After trying to register again, it says that my device has already been registered. I also tried the android app with the same message showing. Is there any way I can be helped to get the app working? i'm sure I am using the correct user name and/or alternatively is there a way to re-regi…

Hi everyone, I've recently installed a 5Kw Deye inverter (spec sheet attached) onto my DB along with 2 x 5Kw Vestwoods batteries. The setup works great and our entire house runs fine during load shedding. My stove is gas. My geyser and aircons are isolated so we are good. I have recently ordered 8 x Longi Solar Panels 555w for my roof (Spec sheet attached) from a supplier. I contacted my installer and he mentioned that I might have an issue with my input voltage on the MPPT that I the panels will be installed on. He said I might want to return the panels. Does anyone have any advice for me regarding this? I would like to use these panels and …

Hi guys, I have a problem with my system using battery when solar production dips, this happens even though my battery % is below my set % on time of use settings. any insights as to why this is happening ? This problem only started today - everything was working well, i made no changes to the system at all but i did have an earth leakage trip on the lights circuit, not sure if this is related

Hi All... I am looking for +/- 30kw of battery storage and would like to go for 2-3 bigger units over 6x5kw batteries. Whats the best option on the market now with best after sales support etc ? Sunsynk, Freedom Won, Hubble AM10 ? What other brands can I look at ? Will be paired with Sunsynk or Deye 8kw inverters.

Hello all, New user checking in. The current state of Eskom and the stark reality of loadshedding for probably the next (let's be realistic here) decade has finally spurred me on to get something installed that will help us become a bit more independent from Eskom and keep the essentials running in the case of a total grid collapse (something I'm now taking serious as a likely outcome). To keep costs low, I am going to do the installation myself, starting with a battery backup system, then adding on solar and/or a standby generator depending on how impending the level of doom is going to be at that time. I will probably create more posts about this as I go along…

Hello all. Thanks for these forums, was reading some interesting discussions about setting up Deye system work modes the other day. Anyway, I recently had a 5kw Deye inverter installed with 3.2kw of panels and 2 Volta stage 1 batteries. It's a steep learning curve, and I'm relieved to have found these conversations to refer to. I do have an initial question, if someone might know. Maybe this is very ordinary, but the ppl who installed the system for me told me the system constantly draws 20 watts from the grid, to ensure no backflow. That makes some intuitive sense to me. The last couple days though I've seen the grid power anomalies in the images. So my q…

Hi Everyone Been running a 4.2kva generator for a few months, pretty much runs my whole house we turn the geyser/stove/pool pump off while running the generator and the generator runs great and handles the load. I want to slowly move to solar but do it in a modular way. I have a couple of questions. I want to start by buying the inverter now then next month 2 x 12v 100ah batteries, then after that buy the panels. I am looking at the following inverter does anyone have any bad experience with these brand? I can connect my generator to this as well right? Axpert 5Kva – VP – 5000w Inverter How much +/- would it cost to have the inverter connected into the…

We are very late to the party, but now is the time. I am afraid of analysis paralysis and don't just want to ask the first installer for his recommendation without sufficient knowledge. Our requirement is at around an 8kW inverter, but due to the following I am going for 2x5kW inverters. This will probably be Deye due to slightly lower pricing than Sunsynk (but you're welcome to change my mind): 1. I want to run 2 geysers in peak solar production hours, which in our house is low consumption time in any case. 2. Redundancy. If we lose one inverter at least we will have some functionality left. In terms of battery service I am open to be convinced, currently …

Hello ,I am overwhelmed by the options, the technology and the potential for low qualiyt/scams in this industry. Can somebody assist me with some basics. I have a plot with multiple tenants all using gas stoves and gas geysers. I intend to start up with one section of four tenants on a single phase through a master DB board. There are four separate DB sub boards each unit has a micro wave, washing machine, router Tv ,lights and a few other light duty items. The section also powers a pressure pump(.75kw) and gate motor electric fence and alarm.) The usage was metered as follows; Daily peak 5.768 kw(although this included 2 no elec stoves…

Hi, apologies for inconveniencing you guys with the following questions, first time solar owner. About 3 weeks ago my sunsynk 5kwh inverter was installed and my 5.32 kwh synsynk battery, they work better than expected and my house draws less power than expected too. The installer installed the frames and solar panels today, some of them (8 out of 10), each panel is a 465 watt rated JA panel. It's currently 2pm in the winter, there is no shading obstructing the panels, the sun can clearly be viewed, 8 of them are installed and connected to the inverter but they are only generating 400 watts of power. Is this normal for the winter? I looked up my region's generati…

Good evening all. I have build my own Solar system about 8 years ago (4 X North Star AGM Batteries 170a/h, PWM 60a CC, and 4 x 330W Canadian PV, 2400w Genie Pure Sine Inverter (Transformer Type). Load (2 x Fridges, 1 Deep Freeze, Washing Machine, and 2 x PC and WIFi. No Problems and the batteries still tested 80% of capacity. In the meantime, I have bought 1 x 24v LiFePo4 100ah and 1 x 12v LiFepo4 12 100ah Hoselect batteries. Currently charging the 24v with the 4 x 330w PV (Seeking for 2 x 665w or 675W Bifacial PV panels), 60A GD Plus CC (Setting LB 12), and the 12v with 3 x 150w PV, 60A GD Plus CC (Setting LB 11) (Busy building a suitcase for Caravan Camp…

Good day all! I have a 5kva Phocos (Axpert clone) with an averge 1x5kw battery; I'm replacing this with an 8kva Sunsynk with 2 x 5.36kw Sunsynk batteries. What would a ballpark figure be to uninstall the old and reinstall the new? I've been quoted R20, and R7k... Obviously don't want to install without necessary safety precautions, but don't want to waste money either. Thanks! Matt

Hi All I have finally decided to get Solar for the family. I had settled for a solution with Alumo which would have seen me getting 5Kw Sunsynk Invertor, 5Kw Sunsynk Battery, and 6 Jinko 475W Solar Panels. This seems like a reasonable proposition given the minefield of the solar world. My challenge is that Alumo does not work on slate roofs. Do you have any advice on slate roofs? My thinking is that if reputable Alumo is not keen on this, other smaller/individual installers may take this on and leave me with a leaky roof. Has anyone on this forum taken this challenge on the slate roof before? I am now considering buying from Solarway Suppliers, just not sure ab…

Good Day. Trust you are doing well. Need advise of the experts. My question is simple. I understand that a 5 KWh lithium battery can be used upto 80% in most of the scenarios. If I use the 5KWh battery that has a 1C discharge means in one hour I will be able to burn 4KWh. At 0.5C discharge I will be able to burn 4KWh in 2 hour. Just to say it otherwise with 0.5C discharge, in one hour max output from battery will be 2.5KW. Now to the above scenario I am adding an 8KW inverter. I want to be able to run the inverter at full capacity. What I mean is, I want to run the inverter to be able to run 7kw or 7.5kw load when there is no eskom and no sun. …

HI All. I'm new to this and overwhelmed by information on what to do i apologies if this has been raised before i couldn't find anything. I don't have a big budget so will be doing things in phases. I can only do 1 x Inverter/ Battery now, Panels will be later phase 2, question is do i go bit extra with 1x 8kW or 5kW and then later get a second 5kW inverter (SynSynk/Deye). Can you add a second (same kind) inverter into 1 system. I will also only go 1x 5kW battery (SunSynk) now then get a second later once cashflow allows. Not sure if this is advisable or rather go 8kW Inv with 2x 5kW batteries. Thought for 2x 5Kw if they can be linked to one system then if one g…
