So I am new in everything, I would like to convert my home to solar, its a 3 bedroom, and 2x 1 bedroom flat, then I want to install a water tank with a solar pressure pump for water supply if I do not find a borehole on my premises, I have an electrical stove and oven that I would like to keep, if gas gets to expensive, my geyser must be solar system as well, my pool pump must be converted to solar aswell. So my question is how do I work out( formula) what I will need and where to look for the products and how would I know who is a chance taker or a daylight robber?

Good Afternoon All I apologise in advance for the long essay but I find that I'm in need of unbiased information- both to use in my research work and to decide on a solar installation for my home. We are currently wired for 3-phase and are direct customers with Eskom. We are looking for a hybrid solar solution that has us generating as much of our own power as possible. The main stumbling block at the moment is how best to deal with the 3 phase wiring. A number of solar installers have done an inspection of our DB configuration and I am getting conflicting opinions. Opinion A- Install a 3-phase hybrid inverter (This would be the 12KW Deye although I am int…

Hi Bought myself a Sunsynk 5.5 and a Hubble AM 2 awaiting delivery and are busy doing my wiring diagrams. I will be moving all my plugs and lights of the main Db to a sub db with a changeover switch to provide the sub db with power from either utility or inverter. 1. Do I provide power from before or after the RCD to the inverter? 2. The "Earth Neutral Bridge Box". What is the inputs and outputs? Is it equivalent to the "Earth Bind Relay" shown in the manual or does it basically serve as an auto changeover switch for the earth? Do I simply sink a copper rod to create the isolated earth for the inverter supply? Thanks

Help needed with a setup we heard of. The household load is divided into essential and non-essential items. Two groups are then divided between two batteries, i e one battery for essentials, one battery for non-essentials. Apparently this is much cheaper than how it is done at the moment. What do you need for this setup and how is it done? Also: possible cost. Thank you!

Hi guys, I really need help please. Solar Panels: x16 JA Solar 545w; and x2 Canadian Solar 405w Super High Power Mono PERC HiKU. I had this panels installed in may, production was around 6.7kw on sunny day whe 16 JA panels were connected to solis invertor, as soon as 2 canadian panels was connected production will not go over 4.5 kw on sunny day. I am really annoyed by that. Is there any chance that those 2 panels are source of the problem? I hope that inverter doesn't read canadian panels 405w instead JA 545w?I rather have installers back and disconnecting those 2 and have them as decor on roof instead having drop in production. I would really appr…

I am looking to upgrade my system to a Sunsync 5kw inverter system. I reside in Cape Town and now with the new laws kicking in from the 1 Oct 2023, I need to change my inverter to something that is is on the approved list. I currently have a FiveStar inverter 3.5kw inverter connected to 4x 100ah gel batteries. My aim is to run the house during the day from solar and grid (if the power is insufficient) and only use the batteries mainly during load shedding at night. My load during the day is around 400watts per hour and goes upto 3000 watt when using a microwave or kettle. I plan to initially install 4x 545 watt solar panels due to budget constraints. Please adv…

Hi. I have 4 solar panels and a victron charge controller. Trying to figure out if I must or can connect in series. I can't attach a photo of panle here but the charge controller is MPPT 100/30 vitron. A series collaboration would be easiest. Into a lipo 200 AH battery. Thanks in advance

Hi, I've been sitting around reading bits and pieces here for a while. But after starting to play with the gear I've accumulated I've got several queries that I'm going to need some info on. I'm doing this install myself, and gear I've collected used, cheap, free etc. I have a Goodwe 5048es inverter, a 6.8kwh lithium battery. At this point I've got 8 290watt solar panels. (I've also got a 3600watt version of that inverter, and another 24v easun thing that I was trying first. Now the initial question, I've got a reasonable amount of shading on the north roof of my house from large eucalyptus trees. My shed however is in full sun all of the time. (the hous…

Hello All I have posted a couple of questions on the forum before and you have all been very helpful. I have an Axpert Mks iv 5000w 48 v inverter, 7 panels of 420w in a single string giving approx. 240v at the pv input. I have a pair of pylontech batteries in parallel and the system is working fine. I have had a couple of answers to this question before but they were both different and I wanted to be sure that I was on the right track before I overloaded the system by accident. From the pylontech manual the max continuous discharge is 2400w per battery and I was under the impression (happy to be corrected) that if they were paired in parallel then the max I…

Hello! Im new to solar and i am not very electrically orientated. Our household uses 450kw/h per month (latest municpal bill) I want to go full off grid with a very decent system at the end of my solar journey but I want to do it in steps as I get the money to do so. Please let me know if im on the right track or if im going too far? Immediate install (december) 8Kva Sunsynk Invertor 5.3 Synsynk Battery 10 panels x 460w minimum My understanding is that this will be good enough to carry me through loadshedding and give me most of the night on the battery. During the day (sun permitting) the panels and invertor will feed my house without …

Hi There Guys, Just have my solar setup now for a week... I have the following components installed: Deye 5 kw Hybrid Inverter 1 x Dyness Battery Lithium Ion 5.12KWH 51.2V 100Ah 8 x Seraphim 560W 144 Cell SIV Series Solar Panels Installed in KZN So I only realized after installation that I can only use about 50% of the battery wattage since its a 0.5c... Which sucks but I understand why that is the case. I also only realized after installation that the Solar panels rating is not the rating I would achieve under normal conditions. I did not have a great roof that was North Facing that I could use so I initially got all 8 …

Hi I'm getting a solar system installed next week. 16x545W solar panels 1x8kw Inverter 5x5.1kw battries My aim is to minimise my monthly bill. I have 2 questions around how to cater for loadshedding while still using most of my battery every day to minimise my bill. Question 1 - How do I allow the system to use battery power when load shedding occurs? I'll me using the Time of use setting and will set that at 100% during the day and 40% at night. But what happens if load shedding happens when the battery is below this SoC (when its still charging up to 100% early morning or when I've used it to below 40% at night)? Question 2 - If I…

Good Day Everyone! I know nothing about hybrid inverters, and are plunging into the deep end! I live in a Townhouse, and at the moment I already have solar Geysers. I have LED's lights everywhere, gas Hob, etc. I am looking to buy a 5kVA hybrid inverter, (I already have 8 with deep cycle batteries), and add more Solar Panels over time. With a limited budget, I have the following options: RCT-AXPERT 5K MK2 Open Range Solar Revo VM II 5.5Kva/5.5Kw Inverter Growatt 5KW Solar Inverter (ES Model - 48V) LuxPower Inverter 5kW - 2 x MPPT`s (SNA 5000 WPV) Looking at my options above I am leaning towards the LuxPower as the price is favourable and the d…

Hi, I'm seriously considering solar. My average consumption is about 800kW.h per month in winter and about 650kW.h in summer I have: Two electric geysers (a smaller one for the kitchen), both currently run on timers. 0.75Kw pool pump Electric oven (stove is gas) which is used about once or twice a month, airfryer is used more often. Security system (indoor + outdoor lights, electric fence and 8ch CCTV) All the indoor lights are LED (mostly downlights, trying to find lower wattage bulbs) All the outdoor lights are already solar. I did an estimation of what I would need on thesunpays.co.za, this is what it came back with (A) Inverter: 1x 5kva 5kw …

Hi, all. I've been a member for a while but only got round to pulling the trigger on a solar setup now! My installer is my electrician who's worked for me for years. He's pretty competent and reliable and also cheaper than the guys I used before I discovered him. However, I don't think he's quite as seasoned when it comes to solar panels. He did the inverter setup first, photo attached, and did a really pro job. I've been having a jol fiddling with HomeAssist and my Sunsynk inverter. He's also done an enormous amount of corrective electrical work at our new house as the previous owners had some serious jippo stuff going on due to them having bypassed the prepaid…

Good morning Ladies and gentlemen, I have yesterday managed to finally get my solar panels and inverter up and running yesterday for a short while. There is a couple of issues that I'm facing... System is as follows; 2.8kw of PV 2 X forklift lead acid battery 260ah each running 48v 5.5kw hybrid inverter (don't believe it has a brand name off of eBay) Currently set at SBU and FLT battery. What other settings should I change as the rest are at default? When I put the shower on on the second occasion the system went into overload fault. I understand that the shower is far too much load for the system but …

We recently took the plunge and installed 6x 555 Longi panels (wired in series) paired with a 5Kw SaColar hybrid Inverter and a pack of Sunpays Lithium Fe batteries (10 Kw total) We have an energy efficient household i.e. our daily load is pretty low (1.2 Kwh). Peaks when cooking to ±3 Kw mark for 30 minutes at most. Now we need to understand this (expensive) SOLAR. Daunting task! but, apparently, 6 panels * 555 [minus losses] = ±2.8 Kw per hour potential power. Daily Expectation = ±12-14 Kwh (based on 5hrs sun) The inverter, the data logger and the solar assistent / Pi all register PV voltage at ±91 and the PV current at ±13 amps which equa…

Noob question in my DIY Solar installation. What's the best solution to mount panels on a Harvey tile roof? Harvey tile offer a mounting bracket but at R100ea and needing to be spaced every meter it's seems quite pricey to mount 10 panels? Are there any other solutions? I don't want to drill the tiles risking a leaking roof later on. Another question is. What happens if hail destroys a panel in 5 years time? My understanding is that your panels need to match 100%. In 5years time you probably not going to find jinko 475w panels anywhere?? Hopefully I'm wrong here

Hi to everyone on this forum, I'm slowly investigating how to get into solar. So far I'm probably going with a 5Kw Sunsynk inverter and a 5.12Kwh Hubble AM-5 Battery. Panels maybe if I have any money. The idea being I can add another inverter and more batteries later. My question is regarding the component diagram of a setup. I've seen several online but they all seem to go through the inverter, where if the inverter fails and needs to go in for repairs it looks like your system will be down? Also I'd like to price all the extras that may be needed. Does anyone have a diagram for a hybrid system, with all the breakers/bypass switches and everything required for…

Hi, my name is Ian and i have recently installed a Sunsync 5kw Inverter, hubble battery and solar panels. Maybe a stupid question, but is it better for the battery to charge from the grid or from solar exclusively, or does it make no difference?
