February 27, 20224 yr I have a sunsynk 5kw inverter and I have noticed it gets quite hot on the outside. I don't hear a fan coming on, at what temperature is the internal fan meant to start?

March 20, 20224 yr I've also installed external PC fans on my fan-less Sunsynk 5kW to add airflow over the heat sinks as I did not like the 60 degree temps. 50cfm fan drops temp quite a bit. Edited March 22, 20224 yr by StickeyTape

Are the fans running permanently? Or only when it gets hot? Where did you wire them too? Because they run off 12v?

Same here. Made a significant difference - but these days my temps still sometimes get over 60 degrees. Ambient temperature in my garage is just too high... 23 minutes ago, Terminal3k said: Are the fans running permanently? Or only when it gets hot? Where did you wire them too? Because they run off 12v? Yes, mine are on 24/7. I used a normal 12V power supply and wired the fan directly to it

I used an old laptop powersupply and wired it in directly to the fans. Their usage is low so I just leave them running 24x7.
March 21, 20224 yr Are any of you guys willing to share how your fan installations look as well as the wiring? Ive seen my inverter get up to 80deg in sunny ol Pretoria and im certain that's not couture. Any assistance would be appreciated

Any assistance would be appreciated Hi Mzez, Have a look at this topic I started a while back which uses a very simple system of keeping the inverter cool. Its basic in its construct but works exceptionally well. Comes on at 7am and goes off at 5pm using a simple timer switch. Have not seen over 55 degrees since. MdF

MdF Thanks man - this is simple and yet elegant - i will look to get something similar done this week

MdF Two other options you can consider: connect a MCB sized 12V transformer in an open space in your AC control box. This can then power a small 12V (i.e. computer) fan 24/7. use a sonoff TH10 or TH16 to turn a fan on/off based on the the inverter temp.
March 23, 20224 yr Author thanks for the info all! What about having a fan over the batteries? since battery life is affected with high temps... My battery and inverter are both in the garage, where temps can get high in summer.
March 23, 20224 yr My setup also sits in the garage. Running fans on both inverter and battery. Inverter temps: Battery temps:

March 24, 20224 yr The battery is in an old server/modem type cabinet. I am using the top and bottom fans that came with the cabinet.
July 23, 20223 yr Anyone know why the SunSyncs rus so hot ? Is cooling inadequate or efficiency poor. friends one runs very hot even when not charging or inverting. Victron 5 kVA fan only comes on when charging over 1.5 KW and inverting about 2 kW

Victron 5 kVA fan only comes on when charging over 1.5 KW and inverting about 2 kW How hot is very hot? You can pull up a graph of the ac temperature to see what it does throughout the day and on previous days. Maximum temp i get when pushing 5kw for a while is 55degrees,in summer max i saw was just above 60 . With 2+-kw load its at about 35 degrees. The cold winter temps pretty much keeps the fan from barely ever coming on.
July 23, 20223 yr People complain it to touch to touch , surfaces where one can put you hand on should never be too hot to touch , unless you put up clear warning messages or it can reasonably be expected to be hot eg kettle, stove - so that would probably be over 60 deg

Here what my temps do in an avg day atm.
July 23, 20223 yr One should also check DC Temp. I noticed fan will trigger at 65°C (please always include units, its confusing) and is always hotter vs AC temp. Blasting external fan doesn't help much. 65°C trigger is quite concerning. This of course is only for 5kW with active fan cooling model. I wonder why from other users with no fan model, runs cooler than this active fan cooling model.
December 20, 20223 yr Hey guys I noticed now on my app that my inverter Dc Temp is running at around 80 Degrees. Is this normal? inverter was running a big load at the time I checked. AC temp was around 66 Degrees but could not hear any fans running? At What temp wil it be to much for the Inverter?

The newer models don't have a fan for cooling. Only natural cooling. Edited December 20, 20223 yr by Scorp007
