Node-Red monitors the frequency of the grid and when it drops to 0 then it runs the flow to turn things off.

So that answers the turning off part of the question, however the changing time part is more tricky. I havent done it but in theory NodeRed could monitor for planned load shedding and then force the geyser on at a different time. Your time of use settings on the inverter would need to be logically set so that it pulls from the grid and doesnt just drain your batteries earlier.

The geyserwise can't be programmed remotely, which would need to be done for this to work. If he really wants to go this way he needs to replace the geyserwise with sonoff temperature sensors and program the behaviour he wants

Agreed, but what I'm saying is if the geyserwise is set to be on and then the smartswitch only turns on per the node red control then the geyserwise only functions per his control.

That's his setup if I'm understanding correctly, CBI astute as well as geyserwise

It’s such a tricky one especially because the geyserwise can’t be programmed. I’m thinking of programming multiple times into the geyserwise and then defaulting them all to off except for the std ones. Then if loadshedding happens in the default time slot then I can program one of the other schedules to come on so I work around the loadshedding. With my kak knowledge of HA and NR it’s going to be a bit of a challenge but I’ll try to figure it out. I have @bloubul’s flows too but HA isn’t showing all of the sensors so still messing with that.

So the geyserwise control unit is programmed as always on. But the element can only actually turn on when the smartswitch turns on. So the smartswitch is in overall control. 

Then you can also have the geyserwise at different temperatures, for me that's 65 when the sun is shining but only 55 at 5am. Hope I'm explaining myself now.

In my case, the isolater switch for the geyser , at the geyser, in the roof, was replaced by the CBI ASI. As there was no space in the DB to use the CBI Trip switch. Same outcome , different location.

It definitely doesn't replace the "trip switch". Put it after the breaker. This goes for both ASC and ASI.

Astute smart controller now R499 at Chamberlain's and R480 at Leroy

HI, I am battling with my Astute controller. It worked fine for a while on the cbi app. I however had a issue with my router, which has been resolved. I then couldn't get the controller to show online. So I removed it from the app and tried to add it again. Now I can't get it to pair again! It seems to pair as the rapid lights stop flickering and turns solid before the pairing time is complete, however it doesn't add on the app. I tried other apps as well. No success! What can be the problem.? Is it because it might have been registered before I removed it?

There was an issue with the devices where they only paired successfully with a Google dns (8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4) so you would need to ensure your router is pointing to one of those dns servers. Also make sure they are connecting to a 2.4ghz wifi and factory reset it before trying to pair.

I had this issue with my v1 that I used on the pool pump. Since then I set my default dns on IoT to Google and didn't have the issue with my v2 that on the geyser

Based on the quick time to show it has paired makes me think it did not pair. I had the same on 1 Sonoff and I just had to dump it. Also after it seemed like it paired it would just go off and on at rondom. The new ones I added as well as the older ones are working fine. I never had to ADD any that were in use. This is using the eWeLink APP.

Live/Red -> Main CB -> Geyser CB -> CBI Astute -> Geyser
Neutral/Black -> Bushbar -> CBI Astute

Whenever the power returns after loadshedding, the earth leakage drops. I then push it up again and all is good.
If there is loadshedding and I switch off the Geyser CB, the earth leakage does not drop when power returns when loadshedding stops. When I push the Geyser CB up (when there is power), the eartleakage drops and I need to put the earth leakage up again.

What gives?

You have an earth fault somehow on your geyser. Investigate inside the connection cover but depending on experience you might need a Sparky to check and measure to confirm readings from DB to geyser with Astute and without it in the circuit.

99% of the time that means you need a new element.

Just to close the loop here, the issue is resolved.

I did not connect the CBI to the correct neutral bar.

Just bought a CBI ASC and had it installed by an electrician to control the geyser. I am able to control the geyser manually via the power button, but I am not able to get it to enter pairing mode. When pressing the power button for 5 seconds the LED switches off and then goes back to red. It never turns flashing blue as per the instructions and therefor is not detected by the CBI Home app.

 

I have a Tenda N300 F3 router.

 

Any advice?

I see that I'm not the only one that battled with the pairing.  

Press the button on the device so that the geyser is on.  The light starts to flash.  Then press and hold the button for 5-10 seconds.  That should take you to paring mode.

Two questions for those that have Astute Timers and excuse my ignorance.

i. How good is the astute at keeping its state when power is lost - eg: with loadshedding is the scheduling seamless when power is reinstated?

ii. Are these switches reliant on permanent wifi - eg: my tenant no longer wants the fibre, will it retain the last scheduling setting or is it dependent on the cloud for configuration?

Regarding your first question, I have had no issues so far. Not sure about the reliance on an internet connection to program, but you can control it manually via its power button.

Hi All, I could be wrong, but I see most people are using the CBI ASC units. Is there any reason for not using the ASI units for the same application?

The obvious difference in the in DB fitment. Any other differences?

I have both and don't think one is better than the other. I purely went for the asc for my pool pump as was easy to fit into the pool dB and have 2 asi units on my 2 geysers. Again was easier to just switch out the manual isolator switch that was there than wire into the main dB. They both show up and work exactly the same in the app. All the same settings etc
