Good day everyone. I seem to be struggling with an electrical problem. My geyser is connected to the breaker that says 32A, 2nd breaker on the right side of my earth leakage, and my geyser is a 3kW geyser. The circuit breaker has been changed multiple times, I am not allowed to leave it on as I am renting and the owner wants to save electricity. I went to my geyser, tightened all the connections, then I went to my DB board and made sure every bold or screw is tightened. I will switch it on for an hour then turn it off. Is my circuit breaker to small for the geyser's 3kW, or will my breaker be faulty? Before it trips, the wires that go into my 32A breaker will …

Hello all We have a 44 gallon drum sand filter that we have been using for a while now. before we had a rather powerful water feature plastic pump to pump the water into our ceramic filter inside the kitchen. We now changed to an on-demand 0.375 Mac-Afric pump, but even after running the pump with water for hours, we still get a strong taste of metal in the water. What is the best way to fix this? Plastic impeller (if they are available)? Replace pump Put an inline filter system in the kitchen to remove the taste Which filter would do this best? Other ideas? We like the idea of the on-demand - just not drinkab…

So I recently upgraded to a Geyserwise solution. My setup is Solar collector, 200lt geyser, 12v battery and pump with dedicated solar panel. Was only installed last week and been noticing big differences from my old SR81 unit. I only use the morning timer and initially set it to run for an hour to heat up to around 60deg. Before I shower I notice that it's about 50ish. I then changed the timer to start 2 hours earlier but it does the same thing. The other issue I have is that when I step into the shower, being the first one, the temp after drops to about 35. This is a quick shower and I keep the faucet in the middle so don't use very hot water. Now, Im compari…

Hi there. We have a gas geyser on our renovated container. The water supply is a tank about 40m away around 2m above the geyser. I dont have an issue with pressure as it starts up the geyser flame and we get piping hot water. We are able to regulate the hot-cold mix of water through the kitchen and bathroom taps. However, the shower is an issue. The hot water fluctuates from off to extreme heat and we cant get an even temperature no matter how much we adjust the cold tap. Is it something to do with the fact that the shower outlet is a similar height or higher than the gas geyser or is there another issue? Thanks

We're wanting to put in some irrigation for beds and lawn. The heads on the beds need 1.0 - 2.5bar. The lawn sprinklers are closer to 3.5bar. We haven't drilled yet, but do have tanks and booster pump that we can fairly easily set the pressure set point. However I would prefer to have to run as few a pumps as possible. What pump would be required to get 3.5bar at the nozzle from a 60m hole vs a 100m hole? I assume we would also need a particulate filter between the pump and the nozzle? I know some of the smaller rigs are limited to 3" pumps as well.

Hi guys, It's a well-known fact, that a water heater / geyser is an appliance with a very high monthly energy consumption. Example: geyser is 36% of the weekly energy consumption here: Based on the above, I have two simple questions: Do you use some device that is able to divert excess PV energy into a geyser's heating element? I found that there's a lot of such smart devices commercially available, for example "Solar iBoost". What kind of diverting device are you using for off-grid installations? The commercial solutions quite often need a CT clamp on the grid and are operating by measuring the grid feed-in, which is not available for the off-…

Hi everyone I have a Totai 12L Gas Geyser, recently i had to re-do some of the wiring as rats somehow got into it, wasn't too extensive and did it myself. However since the repair, i would open the tap, the geyser would ignite, and the flame would come on for maybe two seconds and then it would shut-off completely. I can close the tap and then open it again and it will do the same thing over and over again. Any idea what the problem could be? Thanks

Hey guys! Been lurking around here for a while, and now need some help. I recently installed a gas geyser. It is an Atlas 16L (Model EC32-DG) which has two 19kg LPG bottles connected to it. (Around 8-9m away from the geyser) The total run from the geyser to our shower is around 3-4 meters. The problem i have is that if i try and adjust the temperature via the mixer in the shower, the geyser often switches off. I then need to close the tap, wait a second or two and open it again which reignites the geyser My pressure at home is decent (Wouldnt consider it low at all). There are two adjustments on the geyser, one for water pressure …

I have a 2500 l eco tank. Currently full. We are heading for a dry period in Jozi when Rand Water Board start essential work at the Eikenhof pump station next week. So that 2500 l will come in very handy. But, it would be nice to know on day 5 of the promised 3 day outage how much is left in the tank. Ideally I'd like some sort of simple analog gauage that sits atop the tank. One can look at that and say 'half full' or 'one quarter full' or whatever. One problem is that most of the solutions I've seen are best installed before the tank gets any water in it. That way you know where empty is. Any suggestions? A second prize would be something that pro…

I have a 5kW Sunsynk inverter and battery installed. I'm going to add 10x 460W panels. The installer mentioned that he will connect the main geyser to the back end of the inverter to warm water with surplus solar energy. As I have two geysers next to each other – main bathroom and second bathroom - seldom used, is the following an option: Connect the two geysers to each other, heat the second one with solar energy, which in turn will feed the main geyser with hot water, and then the main geyser’s thermostat will maintain the temperature? If the second geyser is then needed, to only supply the second bathroom, its thermostat can be switched on and diverted ba…

Hi Forum, Not sure if this has been asked before, but we just built our house in Centurion. The developer installed a 3.6kw ITS heat pump to a 200l geyser. Like all developers do, once the house has been built, they aren't much help with how to run things. I have a solar system installed, sunsynk 8kw with 2 5.12 batteries. I currently use the heat pump on a timer 5am - 7am (not as hot water as we want) and then 12pm - 15h30pm (hot water is good for an evening shower) - with this set up, I am pulling about 1-2kws from the grid but, I still would like a hot shower in the morning. My problem is, it's winter and the air is much colder, which I am assuming as to why …

Hi everyone I am a long time lurker and first time poster. Firstly, that you to everyone for the great topics here. In my search for a solar solution this forum has helped me immensely in making informed choices. We have serious water interruptions in our area so the solution for me is to attach my borehole to a Jojo for backup water. I currently have my borehole connected to irrigation running on a 32A smart switch. I am thinking of T-ing the irrigation line so that I can run the borehole into the tank and control the borehole pump via a float switch to keep the tank level up. I will leave the system running to the tank and manually switch the pump on and se…

Hi there, I'm busy renovating a new pad and have the opportunity to fit a completely new water heating system. I'm keen to install a heat pump, as I've has decent savings from the heating setup at our current house. Split between fitting a traditional HP setup (i.e Alliance or ITS of +- 5kW output) with 200L of storage OR the 200L integrated unit from EMS, which seems to offer a decent efficiencies, simple installation. Does anyone have one of these EMS/Magneto units installed? Looking for informed input/opinions. Thanks!

Hi all Looking for some advice on my golden oldie kwikot geyser. The geyser has been working flawlessly for the past 7years. I believe the geyser is older than 10 years. My issue is that geyser has developed a leak on the cover plate holding element. The water is dripping and at times the drip is almost running. From various forums I have picked up that possibly the rubber flange and the element might be gone and needs to be replaced. Iam considering replacing the flange and may be the element and then monitor. My plumber recommendation was to claim from insurance and get a new geyser. Iam not keen on this without first being 100% certain that I can squ…

Does anyone have advice on low profile thermostat options for geyserwise ptc element installs that don't have the full geyserwise setup? I currently have a kwikot geyser and I've installed the ptc element, geyserwise flange and thermostat tube. The thermostat i have is the standard kwikot one that plugs into the standard spiral element, so there are terminals that are basically in the way of a flush fit into the thermostat tube. The main issue is I can't close the geysers plastic protective cover over the element and thermostat, so they are a bit exposed to the elements at the moment because my geyser is mounted outside. First prize is to get a thermos…

Hi, What thoughts on running an ordinary 230v / 3kW geyser element directly off 3 panels in series? I have 3 extra 350W panels with Vmp 39.2v, Imp 8.94. So 3x39.2 = 118VDC. I work out the element resistance as 230v/(3000w/230v) = 17.6 ohms. So with 118v it would draw 6.7 amps. Which comes out at 788 watts. So that's about 75% efficient. (It would be more efficient if the element resistance was a bit less) With less solar energy the power would drop but its a very simple way to harvest some heat into the water.

Hi everyone, I am ready for phase two of our off grid journey... drilling a Borehole. I understand a few things will be different to a normal borehole set up because of our solar system, I wanted to ask advice because I am not 100% sure if the borehole people are offering the best solution. I was advised that we need to have two pumps, a small borehole pump, around .37kw that can fill the tank during the day and a VSD pump that will then be used to supply the house and garden. I have a few questions regarding the advice I received? Will it not be better to get a VSD pump on the borehole side to then illuminate the need for a tank? A…

Hi I want to heat a small pool / tub it holds about a 1500 liters of water and my question is whether I should use Evacuated Tube Collectors or Solar Pool Heating Panels and which one would be more efficient and get better water heating. Also what type and size of pump would I need to use. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Just wondering what sort of installation costs you looking at. Assuming I buy the Elon 100, 3 panels and mounting kit, what sort of cost am I looking at for balance of system and installation with COC? I saw elsewhere on the forum a guy was quoted 20k excl panels to install 2 panels and that is a no go for me.

I have a filtered drinking water 44 gallon drum outside, it has a 25mm feed at the bottom of the drum to a small 0.37kw on demand pump, this then goes up the house wall into the kitchen to a tap for the drinking water. The climb is about 3m on the outlet to the ceiling of the house. The pump switches on, the pressure drops from 4bar to zero, pump works fine for 5 seconds , although a very slow water flow at the tap inside, then the "fault" light comes on and it stops. Push the reset button on the pressure switch and it builds pressure again and works again the next time for 5 seconds. I checked the pump before installing on the ground with a hose pipe in and hos…
