Water Heating & Pumping

Water heating & water pumping solutions

  1. Hi. I have 8 geysers and am looking for an option to see water temp and energy use. Prefer after market goods that I can install myself, expensive to get sparky in to rewire 8 geysers. Need to be able to see geyser temp and current draw on a phone app. Cheers.

While using my portable aircon the 1st time this season I placed a wine bottle with water at 29 deg in the exhaust. 30min later the temp was 48 degrees as per picture. Paving outside is now at 62 degrees.

I have a Turaco Heat Pump installed at my house. I’ve recently installed a solar system and I’ve realized that the pump is heating throughout the night when not needed. I’ve tried to download the manual and set a timer, but I’m not so confident that it is correct. question: 1. Is there someone in the know how to set the time properly on one of these units? 2. Can I set multiple timers on the unit? 3. Is there another option to have a more “Wi-Fi connected” timer fitted? Thanks.

@frivanand @Modina, in another thread you mention using two capacitors in series to "derate" a geyser element... Could you please elaborate? This could be a GREAT solution ! My solar water heater element is around 3.5kw, and I've been considering replacing with a smaller element (to stay within the bounds of my PV production), but: 1. SWH doesn't take stock standard elements (Solahart). 2. We'd loose ability to heat up the water relatively quickly if needed. Idea: run parallel (seperated) circuits feeding the geyser. Controlled by wifi switches in a way that they're never connected at the same time. One circuit straight in (no funky electro…

During last week with high summer temps I found the following. Heat geyser with heat pump 04h-05h to 56 deg C. No switch on via Sonoff during the day. At 17h30 the temp was a great 52 deg C due to high above ceiling temp in the roof. Thus my controller would not reheat as it is waiting for 50 deg C to switch on again.

I have a 0.75kW single phase AC borehole pump that is drawing 1.5kW and would appreciate advice to rectify this. I used to run on grid power and didn’t notice but now that I am off grid it seems like an unnecessary strain on the solar system. The pump seems to be operating normally for at least the last 6 months apart from drawing double it’s rated power. During operation I have measured the following: Inverter output: 238V 6A Borehole DB board: 234V 7A Other information: Cable from inverter to borehole is about 150m long and the size is 10mm square. Borehole depth is 40m. Total pumping height is 70m. Pump was bought in January 2023…

Evening Folks After seeing a post about thingwala and getting your geyser connected to the internet, I purchased a geyserwala connect. The install was easy enough after watching the install video, my biggest delay was that the data cable was a little short, the installers of my solar geyser glued it to the wall. The Wi-Fi connects easy enough, but just be aware, if your IP addresses does not start with 192.168.x.x, you will need to set the IP in manually on the geyserwala. Once online and the online token was installed the geyserwala worked flawlessly, I set in the setpoint temperatures and setup the timers and could not be happier. The service was awe…

Hi gents, I moved to the new house and brought my old solar geyser panel with me. Which silicon to use to insert the coper vacuum pipes into a manifold ? Original silicon I used doesn't harden ( witch it shouldn't ) so I wander is any similar silicon is on SA market? thanks for an advice

Hey peeps, Both my pond pumps decided to give in on me in the same week I have two ponds: Duck Pond This pond was happily serving 10 geese and 15 ducks until a few days ago, the pump decided to go on me. It is a 2kwh pump, I always thought it was an overkill but it was what I had at hand. I am looking to replace this pump, and I will be building my own circulating filter system, the pool filter I used is a pain in the rear, and sand had to be replaced quite often. Those birds know how to make a mess. I will be moving my greenhouse closer to the duck pond and start a aqua-phonics hybrid greenhouse as there are tilapia fish in the pond. I've been …

  12. Good Day Fellow Members I am looking to replace or retrofit my existing electric geyser and am busy with research so I would appreciate any feedback provided. 1) Objective Ensure supply of hot water for prolonged outages (> than 4 hours caused by load shedding) as our infrastructure grid has deteriorated and we experience regular, long delays. Cut electricity costs. I would prefer to utilise my current geyser and convert it instead of replacing it completely (unless there is a cost effective alternative). 2) Geyser Specs I have 3 x 200l geysers but for now I am looking at just converting 1 of them unless there is a cost effe…

  13. Hi Guys I managed to score a heat pump for my pool from one of my friends who had it lying around. It is an Aquatemp FT12KS and the manufacturers don't seem to be in business any more. Connected it all up and runs 100% when my inverter is attached to the grid (Sunsynk 8Kw) . It pulls a load of 2.2Kw and has a Copeland Compressor - Model ZR28K3-PFJ-522 installed. The strange thing is that the heatpump will not run when the grid is down. If the grid goes down it stops working and will not switch on again until we attach to the grid again. You can hear the compressor trying to start but immediately stops again. I have tried reducing …

Is this possible? I have a solar geyser which we don't use so I was thinking to connect it up to our electric geyser so it gets fed with warm/hot water, reducing the time the element runs. I would need to pressurise the outlet of the solar geyser obviously but has anyone done and have some feedback for me?

  15. I am embarking on my solar journey, and plan to have a completed solar+inverter+battery system up and running before the end of next month. My plan is to connect my geyser to the AUX port on the Sunsynk inverter, such that I can power the geyser only when there is sun, and the batteries are charged. I want to integrate a Geyserwise with this setup, so that I can have a little more control over the geyser temperature, and so that I can see what the temperature is at the end of the day, allowing me to better understand if I need to add more solar capacity or not. Since the geyser will be essentially controlled by the inverter, I run the risk of not having hot wa…

Hi All, What are some good geyser monitoring solutions that you have had experience with? I have a 5kW Huawei isite power-m inverter and one 5kwh battery. I’ve also installed 8 x 555 Jinko panels. By looking at my consumption it looks like I have around 20kwh that’s not going through the inverter and suspect the geyser is the main culprit but just don’t know if it’s possible that it’s drawing that much. I want to install a monitor/timer that can tell me how much power my geyser is consuming and optimise by timing it. I am considering a heat pump but I need the current consumption data first, to make an informed decision. Please share your…

So i received a 12v 300w dc element today and it is huge and i mean Huge 50cm long with 3 u shaped element coils. The old one was also 12v 300w and 17cm long connected from the panels (series 4x [email protected])directly to a geyser. i Wonder if this one will work? i Know the amps is on the panels are less and will take longer to heat up. Tested it with 4x12v battery bank and in 10 seconds it was HOT. Does size matter?🤭

Hi All Read on another forum of someone using an AC speed controller to limit AC current to their electric geyser. Is this safe? Currently have a 3kw geyser on the roof and a gas one which can be used interchangeably but not at the same time. Want to reduce that 3kw to 2kw either by changing out the element (either normal 2kw element or a PTC one), but this looked like an interesting option. Thoughts?

My solar geyser heats up to +65c during the day and then drops to 45c by the morning. I suspect the geyser is just siphoning water through all night long cooling it off. How do I prevent this? I've got 24 vacuum tubes accross 2x 200l in serie geysers. The "front" geyser is on geyser wise and the system takes cold water from the "back" geyser to feed warm water into the front geyser. Ive got geyser blankets and those pipe coverings on everywhere I could fit it. To make double sure it's not a temperature difference between the two geysers, I've electronically heated the rear one as well to 60c (normal element and thermostat)

  20. I've got 2 x 150L geysers (Tecron 200KPA and Kwikot 600KPA) I'd like to consider water heating options for these geysers to save costs on electricity as my Tecron consumes 9-10 Kwh per day. Which would be the most cost effective way to go about doing this. Not sure if this changes anything but I've got a 5KVA LuxPower Inverter, 5KVA Shoto Battery and 8 x 410 Solar Panels. I was thinking of Starting with Geyserwise and doing it in Stages (Geyserwise Module First, Geyserwise Element Second and then either adding the MPPT or connecting it to my Inverter) If there are any other suggestions I'd really appreciate.

  21. As per title, what is the effort to do this? The geyser with a collector, which is 7 years old, has stopped heating up and we have not replaced the glycol. We had extreme hot weather the past year that could cause the glycol levels to drop through evaporation. I can feel heat conduction on the pipes from collector to geyser, so don't think the collector is the problem. I also have to drain the system because I need to replace a broken stop valve on the collector pipe. Sizing the effort to understand if this is something I should do on a Sunday, or phone up my plumber.

What Gas Geyser would you guys recommend? Waterflow at my house is around 15l per minute. I am quite keen on Ariston or Dewhot's forced fan units because Rinnai is currently sold out everywhere. What would you guys recommend or what do you use at your house? I am also quite interested in knowing what VSD booster pumps would be recommended? I have a 0.37kw peripheral unit, but would like to get a Leo Mac550, Scala Grandfos 1 or a Zilmet Magicbox Maxi. Just for the shower and to have the convenience of not losing pressure when 2 taps are open as the 0.37kw can't keep up.

I recently connected a Tuya 16A Smart Switch with temperature and humidity sensor to my 150L kwikot geyser (1.5kw PTC element) which is situated in my roof and is covered by a geyser blanket. The sensor is taped against the nut of the PTC element. I have find that after heating the water (to 55⁰C) the temperature drops by 20⁰C within 2 hours and then cools off more slowly thereafter. This seems excessive given that a geyser blanket is in place. What is the expected temperature loss of a geyser? Is the placement of the sensor possibly resulting in quicker temperature drop than inside the geyser?

  24. Hi all, I've got a solar geyser system installed using pumped system from collector to geyser. My issue is that I'm losing >20 degrees geyser temperature overnight without using any hot water. My current theory is that the pump is circulating hot water to the panel,so the hot water does not stay in the geyser and gets cooled down when circulating in the panel. When I do heat the water up at night I notice that the collector temperature goes up as well to match the geyser temperature and then when switched off I lose more than 20 degrees temp in both geyser and collector overnight without using any hot water. Is this a faulty installation? Sh…
