Hi guys Here's a small system I did for my dad's office/house. Running everything except the kitchen and garage. 2 x Microcare 20amp MPPT's 4 x 250watt 24v monocrystalline panels 4 x Deltec 150aH batteries in a 24v config 1 x CB solar 3kva inverter 1 x "switch over" switch (select between eishkom and free power ) DC 1000v 20amp fuses on the panels, 100 amp fuse between battery bank and inverter and 50amp fuse between MPPT's and battery bank. The system works like a charm. Got a electrician to install a 2nd DB board with a "switch over" switch in case something happens, the old man can just flick a switch and s…

I know it's overpriced! But it does look nice and helps when you have limited space ;-)

Courtesy of Eskom load shedding in 2008 we decided we needed to get less dependent on municipal services as a whole and started slowly trying to reduce/reuse/recycle. The last 2 years this has escalated due to water restrictions, food prices, refuse removal strikes, load shedding and power price increases etc etc. As a household we recycle glass/tins/plastic and paper (there is a drop off point at our local Vet) - this reduced our garbage to about 1 small bag per week instead of 2 wheelybins each week! We have changed most of our lights to small CFL's or LED's, installed a solar conversion (evacuated tubes and 12v pump system) on our geyser with a geyserwi…

Hi there, my first post on the forum. My workshop is from home with a few CNC machine's, to run them I need 380v 3 phase power. My consumption per month is +- 2500kwh,sometimes up to 3500. This is my shop and house together. I started of by measuring the house only which is +- 21kwh per day (+-630kwh per month) After investigating inverters to manage the amount of power I use, I realized that I need some special 3 phase setup to manage the 40 amp per phase with spikes of up to 100amps for a millisecond or so.(ups required) First of all I calculated the amount of panels needed, not enough roof space for them to start of with, so going off grid…

BMV 702 Still have a lot of cleaning up to do, so please excuse the dirt Hoping to have both to 48v 5Kva and 10 by 315watt pants each by the end of the year. Very new to solar and only started playing around 6 months ago, before that I knew nothing! Hope all is in order. Been running very well so far. Just not sure if my panels are in the right place! I am a more of a try and error person.........

So I am in the process of installing an inverter to carry some of the load in our house during load shedding (lights and one or two plug points) The setup is as follows: 1 x 3Kva plus Mecer 24volt inverter 2 x OmniPower 260aH 12volt batteries 1 x Victron energy battery monitor BMV - 702 I have mounted the inverter, battery monitor and a sub DB board. I am awaiting the arrival of my batteries in the new year, then I will finish the wiring and commission the system. I had a couple of questions if anyone out there is able to assist. The solar charger mode specs are as follows: Rated current: 60amp System voltage: 24volts DC Solar operating voltage range: 3…

Hi all I recently remembered that I actually registered here in May. Wow where has the time gone. In any case just want to share what I have and what I have done. For some reason my pics stop my topic from being post so i used dropbox. Just click on the links to view So I built my house 3 years ago in Midstream Centurion / Midrand and did a lot of ground work before deciding to go solar. Solar Geysers LED lights Cook on gas Just with this I have maintained a power bill of between R400 and R600 per month. Average 9 kilowatt /h /day. Not to bad. This is for the house and a cottage. 3 adults 2 children. I think many skip this part and jump straight to solar. …

Hi All, Neil from Pretoria here. My first post, so I thought a picture of my weekend hobby would suffice. :-) Starting from humble beginnings: a single 20W panel, 6A Stecca PWM controller and 7.2Ah battery, it has evolved quite a bit. I'm lucky in that all the kit is leftovers from other projects, so it grows as time goes on. Currently: - 1200Wp solar array, Soon to double in size. - 200Ah (@24V) battery bank (4x Lead Crystal @100Ah) - 45A Tristar MPPT controller, and old 1500W inverter. - most importantly a BMV702. My insight into the system operation grew by leaps and bounds after this little piece of crucial kit. For anybody without this - great investmen…

We did this installation on sunday. Installation took 6 hours from start to finish. About 120 km west of Windhoek on a very nice farm. System consists of Axpert 5 K inverter 8 x 260 Watt poly panels 4 x 200 ah lead crystal batteries Aluminium mounting system 100 A DC battery fuse Ready board Client runs a cold room of the system and does some washing and even ironing during the day. Had to go for such a big inverter to handle the starting amps of the cold room compressor. About 38 Amps for a second.\ I love these Axperts and Lead crystals working together.

After I installed a Victron 702 battery monitor I became aware that my battery bank was out of kilter by sometimes more than 1 V. In researching a remedy I came across this YouTube post. and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5Z8pBE0HlU. Dockarl then made the following videos for me The following document is what I based my Zeners on (http://www.evdl.org/pages/hartregs.html). The Zener diodes give off a fair amount of heat and traditionally the battery posts are used as heatsinks. Since my batteries are in a box and I cannot see the bottom two batteries I wanted to do something different. A computer CPU heat sink was just the …

Hi, Thought I would share a picture of an installation I did over the weekend at a nature estate's guard hut. The system functions purely as a UPS and has no solar panels connected to it. Components used: Axpert MKS 3kVA Plus 48V 4x 12V 100Ah Lead Crystal Batteries 1 x 100Ah knife fuse 1 x 20A DP CB The estate is situated about 15 km outside of Windhoek and experiences regular power outages. This installations serves as back-up for the guard house lights, electric fence, intercom system and gates. I really love these Axpert inverters! Great specs, great price and very intuitive to use.

A big thanks to members of this forum for all the guidance. My installation is 99% complete. I just have cosmetic things still to do. The panels are 250W Yingli panels on a frame facing true North and I am able to alter the tilt to suit the season. Still need to use cable wrap to tidy this up and fence it off. Although weatherproof the combiner box and wiring to be covered to protect it from the sun. Plastic becomes very brittle in the Karoo and that insulation will perish in the sun. Inverter DB and batteries. Was pleased as managed to mount the DC circuit breaker over the armoured cable as it enters the house. I think it looks neater.…

Axpert KS 3Kva inverter, 2 x 105Ah Silver Calcium Exide batteries, sub DB feeding all lights and dedicated plugs for PC, TV, Amp etc. Max load = 600W + 1400W for a few minutes to boil water in the microwave. Installed WatchPower on a old netbook I had lying around, USB connection is plug and play and was surprised how easy it was to setup email for fault warning.
