  1. So... as you can see I've filled up my first bank of Pylon 2.4s... and I've started investing in a second bank of Pylon 3.5s. I will parallel the two banks into my Mersen Battery Disconnect gear, and will use the first 3.5 as the master battery to drive the charge/discharge/balancing of the whole thing. Any better ideas/comments are welcome.

  2. Finally got around to installing more panels in my offgrid setup in Noordhoek. Originally I had 6 panels -> FM80 -> Dead Acid ->Victron 24v 3000va At some point earlier in the year, I finally got around to installing the 10KW LFP I had lying around since 2019. ...and Now, I finally got around to installing another 6 panels to make it 12 panels on the roof as of yesterday. Setup is fully offgrid. I've been offgrid here since I built the place on the plot, never ever had Eskom or CoCT 6 panels worked fine for me on my own, even in winter, but now the GF is living in the house, electricity use has gone up, and we needed more generat…

  3. Hi All I urgently require the services of an experienced installer who has completed successful installations of Kodak OG-7.2 inverter with the Pylontech US3000 batteries. My installer did an installation at my place and he just cannot get the battery to work for days, without disconnecting from the inverter. I really need to get this issue resolved ASAP and have a stable solution. I am based in Johannesburg. Your assistance will be highly appreciated. Kind Regards Thabo

Another Sunsynk install with 4 x AM3’s. Each AM3 is 2.75kwh. Will complete it on Wednesday.

  5. I just came across this site so I thought I'd share my installation. This has been a long process starting some years ago and culminating with going fully off grid last month. My wife and I have a lodge - www.dreamlodge.co.za which has 3 cottages we built to be off grid, all have solar water heaters, 2 have candles and paraffin lamps for lighting and the other has solar PV (12V running a few lights), gas fridge (an antique) gas stove, and a wood stove for heating. Since the beginning of the year we started taking our house off grid as well so as to finally say goodbye to Eskom. We already had a 300l solar geyser which we had used for years, and a gas stove and ov…

Wiring up the terminals right near the floor, not so much fun. The Massive 200A disconnect fuse looks rather ominous Battery wiring End of da…

Hi All, Really new to this but have been quietly following the forum and listening attentively to all the sound advice given. After lots of checking for pricing of equipment and a decent installer I have finally put my system in. Small compared to many of the systems I've seen here but suited my budget : - 5.5 kW Sunsynk Inverter - 10 x 455w ArtSolar Mono panels - 2 x Pylontech 3000c 3.5kwh - IP65 custom cabinet, because I didn't want the system in my garage or house (garage quite a way from the main house) Using the Solarman smart app for monitoring but doesn't really provide as much info as I expected. I don't have an electri…

Hi all. This is my first and very big install. I am putting 20x 455W panels per Sunsynk. Splitting to 2 strings (5 in series and those 2 in parallel). In total 60 panels, 3x Sunsynk 8Kw inverters and 3x 30 Kva Freedom won batteries. I can’t find any info how to program Sunsynk to run master and slaves.

IMy weekend project. 5.5 kW Sunsynk + the Hubble AM-2 no solar yet. Still need to crimp my 50mm^2 cable and connect it to the breaker. I have a few questions. 1. Bought 2 "CBi DIN Rail Surge Protector QFL-1(13)D 1P 275V with Indication - 40kA" and connected that on the LOAD N and L cables. Only the one on LIVE is lit. Is the other one defective or did I buy the wrong stuff? 2. SOC stuck at 89%. I used the RJ45 that came with the Sunsynk and connected that to the CAN port on the inverter and battery. What can the problem be? 3. All those exposed cables from the main DB to the SUB, can I place the faceplate back, cut off a strip at the bottom a…

So a brief background... I've been on the forum for a while, although relatively silent. I almost bought a solar installation company in 2012, but things turned out completely different, maybe for good but still my keen interest in solar was still always there... In 2014 I had some capital and was planning to do a solar install but then 2016 the decision went to drill a borehole first, so solar was delayed again... mid 2020 I decided to take on the solar once more, and this time it looks like things will happen. My budget, around R120k for starters, then we'll see over time where we go. I planned initially to go for batteries with warrantees, but am no…

I replaced my 5yr old Mecer 5KVA (4kW) hybrid with Victron Multiplus II 5KVA/70A Inverter/Charger and a Victron Smart Solar Charge Controller 250V/100A. The bus bar which comes with the SolarMD 7.4kWh lithium battery came in very handy. The SolarMD battery controls the Smart Solar via the SolarMD Data Logger CAN Bus2 to VE CAN on the Victron control hub, a CerboGX device (impressive little thing). Victron's Energy Storage System (ESS) is set to Prioritise Battery life (SOC limit set to 40% for the kicks of it but would normally put it at 20%). Grid set point at 50W (will ideally not send anything beyond this to grid). The setup works like a gem and when the battery i…

Good afternoon, Took delivery of my Sunsynk 8.8 inverter from Steve this week, got it installed yesterday. The inverter is set up but need advice on the recommended settings. The system details are as follows: 1. Inverter - Sunsynk 8.8Kw, 2. Batteries - 2 X Pylontech US 3000 - 3.5 Kw each, 3. Panels 10 X Canadian Solar 365w All panels are connected to one MPPT. I would like the panels to power the house during the day and charge the batteries, with the critical loads being supplied by the battery at night. Secondly, i downloaded the Solarman Smart App, it picks up the inverter and provides basic information but does not provide details o…

  15. In my previous post I metioned that would replace my system to a grid tie system. In May 2017 I purchased 2 x Infinisolar 4k Super units as well as an extra 12 x 255w solar panels. I also sold my old Axpert units. The system now consists of - - 1. 2 X Infinisolar 4K Super inverters in parallel. 2. 2 X (12 x 255w pv panels in series). One string for each inverter, 6120w in total. 3. 4 X 12v 180ahr batteries. On a good sunny day I can produce about 35kwhrs combined out of both units and feed back to the grid. Attached is a photo of the new installation. There has been many probems with the infinisolar units and this is wha…

This is my install done by Suidsee Electrical & Solar. The attached pictures was taken over the 5 days of the install, so this is not the final picture. Those pictures I will take after I did some rounding off work (paint, cover for battery, etc) Take note, the installation is mostly done by the owner of Suidsee himself, which you can hand your house keys to and go on holiday. Here we go:

Just installed a Sunsynk 8kw inverter DIY and want to share some info. We use about 1000kwh (units) per month in our house so about 33 per day with about half in the day and half after PV hours. This is about average for a family home I recon in SA. Already have 2 Solar geysers, gas plates and all lights LED. I wanted to be independent from the grid as much as possible which weighed heavier than economics although my return is still acceptable and higher after tax than any risk free investment. The whole house runs through the inverter including oven, the solar geyser AC elements, all plugs etc. Only the 4 Aircons is supplied before the inverter but with th…

Complements to the new year for every body , my your success end up being boring to you all Its been a while since I posted anything and to be honest I have not spend enough time on Pf but in my defense I had quite a bit on my fork. The place that we bought two years back was/is quite old and it still has those horrible red semi backed clay bricks. When I started with my Solar project I knew that the houses wiring was in a very shabby state but at that time there was not enough time or tom to redo it and I also had some "plans" that I wanted to figure before I started with the project. So almost two years later I had all my plans and material to grab the wires and st…

Just commissioned my Easysolar GX II on Monday with two 2.4 Pylontech’s and eight 355 watt Canadian Solar panels, system working great, a huge thanks to Jaco for supplying the Easysolar II and it so happened that he was in Cape Town for a couple of installations and graciously offered to help commmision the system, which I would have spent days, also, cannot forget Plonkster’s help ps: the WiFi setup on the Easysolar solar is basically non existent,so plan on running an eathernet cable to your router or use the WiFi dongle Tariq

Hello All I have finally finished my lockdown upgrade project. Unfortunately I cant find what I did with old photos of my install pre upgrade but everything was replaced and re-installed Original System Axpert King 3K 2x Vision 200AH Gel Batteries 4x 330W Solar Panels (Risen) All was installed, signed off and COCT registered but there was very little safety included. I am not sure if regulations changed in the last 2 years or if the original installers just cut A LOT of corners. My solar shared the sub-DB in the garage and only had a circuit breaker which was way overrated for the 2S2P setup. There was no battery disconnect, no fuses, surge p…

Although I have documented the crap out of my install here -> http://goingsolar.co.za , I thought it would be nice to put info up elsewhere. I decided I wanted a solar install sometime in early 2011, "for the planet" and totally not because Eskom was making announcements about the imminent end of civilization^H their infrastructure, and can they put the price up like 300% please Mr Nersa. As my house is currently 3 phase, and we do have some 3 phase equipment in use, I decided I'd go 3 phase. Its not that different to single phase, just means you need a different inverter. The panels I wanted to buy (as they were by far the cheapest / best bang per buck) …

Updated my system: Still running my 3KVA Axpert Using 2 X EPSolar Tracer AN's (New) Upgraded panels from having 4 in parallel (Axpert charger went wonky and wouldnt go out of boost mode) to now having 2S2P for each controller (8 panels total) . Already seeing nice increases in power from old 4 panels to having the series connection and benefiting from the higher PV. Still have my first bank of 4 T105's leaking acid (Almost seems like its coming form the terminals) and the other 4 showing no issues of leakage. Put a large load on today, Axpert measured 23.8V and MPPT's were showing 25.2V with a 70amp load coming fro…
